Abstract

In Indonesian education, English as an Introductory Language (EMI) is gaining recognition as an approach that uses English as the main language of instruction in schools and universities. EMI is designed to help students improve their English language skills while studying various subjects. This approach has been favored in countries where English is not the mother tongue, offering many advantages, such as preparing students for global communication, improving access to English academic resources, and increasing the competitiveness of educational institutions. However, EMI also provides challenges related to teachers' skills, pedagogical knowledge, and the effectiveness of EMI learning strategies. This study aims to explore the perspectives of 37 educators in Jakarta through descriptive qualitative research on EMI. The educators strongly believe that EMI is an efficient tool to improve student's English proficiency and their understanding of the subject matter. To support the implementation of EMI, this study recommends additional training in EMI, fostering collaboration between experienced and new teachers, and implementing innovative teaching methods. The study concluded that the successful implementation of EMI in the Indonesian educational context depends on the collective commitment of educators, students, educational institutions, and authorities. Continuous support, evaluation, and emotional support for educators and learners are crucial to ensure the effectiveness of EMI in a better education landscape.

Abstract

The study aims to explore the effectiveness of using storytelling and retelling methods in improving students' English comprehension and proficiency. Through this activity, students were given the opportunity to listen to the story "Timun Mas" and then asked to retell the story in English according to their understanding. The study used qualitative method with convenience sampling. The participants are 40 students aged 6-10 years old from various schools in Srengseng Sawah. Data was collected through analyzing the answers of 40 students as well as the results of a questionnaire that measured students' understanding and response to the activity. The results showed that storytelling and retelling activities were effective in improving students' understanding of the story material, as well as developing their English language skills. Although there were variations in the level of understanding and command of English among the students, most of them were able to convey the essence of the story well, according to their own understanding. However, the evaluation results also highlighted some areas that need further attention, such as providing additional help to students who are having difficulties, as well as evaluating and refining the teaching methods used. Therefore, suggestions for future learning activities are to consider a variety of learning strategies that are more interactive and responsive, as well as to continue to encourage collaboration. The study offers insights and practical recommendations for educators to improve English language education by integrating storytelling and retelling activities into teaching practices. The approach not only improves students' language skills, but also fosters creativity, cultural understanding and critical thinking

Abstract

Participation in international scientific conferences is often considered a valuable opportunity for students pursuing higher education, particularly in fields such as management. However, the extent to which Management Study Program students engage in such conferences and the impact of this participation on their academic and personal growth remain relatively underexplored areas of research. The research aims to provide insights into the participation of Management Study Program students in international scientific conferences, shedding light on their motivations, experiences, and the outcomes of such involvement. The descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the findings in the form of questionnaires given to 15 students of the management study program, Institut Bisnis dan Informatika Kwik Kian Gie who have attended the International Conference event. The general view of the students was that attending international conferences was considered beneficial for improving English language skills, organization, as well as socialization and understanding of diverse cultures although individual experiences and perspectives varied. Positive view towards participation in international conferences and see it as a valuable opportunity to improve their English language skills and their personal and professional development. It is expected that through this research, there will be more in-depth and extended research to investigate participants'' experiences in participating in international conferences

Abstract

The workshop "Digital Interpersonal Skills: Technology Meets Empathy," held in the Jagakarsa area, demonstrated success in enhancing participants' digital interpersonal communication abilities. The practical approach employed, along with the relevance of the material to participants' daily needs, facilitated their understanding and application of the skills taught. Additionally, the use of technology, such as social media for promotion and registration, effectively reached the intended audience, namely high school students active on digital platforms. However, challenges remain, particularly in maintaining participants' focus during simulation sessions. This issue is likely linked to the multitasking habits commonly observed among Generation Z. These findings highlight the need for greater emphasis on the importance of concentration in communication, both online and face-to-face.

Abstract

Sistem informasi presensi karyawan menjadi elemen penting dalam manajemen sumber daya manusia, terutama dalam konteks perusahaan yang menerapkan kerja remote, seperti PT Launch Media Labs. Dengan metode pencatatan kehadiran yang masih dilakukan secara manual, terdapat risiko ketidakakuratan dan inefisiensi dalam pengelolaan data. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membangun sistem informasi presensi berbasis web yang dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan akurasi pencatatan kehadiran karyawan. Proses pengembangan sistem ini mencakup analisis kebutuhan, desain, implementasi, dan pengujian sistem. Melalui metode ini, diharapkan sistem yang dihasilkan mampu memberikan kemudahan akses data secara real-time, meminimalkan kesalahan manual, serta mendukung pengambilan keputusan yang lebih baik. Dengan penerapan sistem informasi presensi yang tepat, PT Launch Media Labs dapat meningkatkan produktivitas dan transparansi dalam operasional perusahaan.

Abstract

Layanan internet kini sudah menjadi kebutuhan yang utama dalam menunjang setiap kegiatan bermasyarakat tidak terkecuali dalam dunia pemasaran, dengan semakin meningkatnya jumlah pengguna internet setiap tahunnya menciptakan peluang untuk dapat memasarkan hasil produk dengan lebih baik, cepat dan murah. Para pelaku usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah membutuhkan pendampingan untuk meningkatkan branding dalam memasarkan produknya terutama penjualan dengan pemanfaatan platform marketplace, yang jangkauannya lebih luas dan murah. Salah satu bentuk dukungan untuk mereka adalah berasal dari akademisi yang berada dalam satu lingkungan sekitar ini merupakan hal penting dalam menanamkan akumulasi pengetahuan ke dalam ranah pengoperasian usaha baik produk maupun pemasaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam bimbingan teknis ini adalah persiapan, pelaksanaan, monitoring dan evaluasi serta membuat pelaporan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah terciptanya sebuah platform berbentuk website bagi para pelaku Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah di lingkungan RW 01 Kelurahan Jagakarsa, terciptanya laporan kemajuan, laporan akhir serta artikel pengabdian masyarakat yang dapat bermanfaat bagi khalayak banyak. Keberadaan UMKM di wilayah sekitar kampus Insitut Bisnis dan Informatika 1957 menjadi sebuah jalinan yang sangat baik dan harus dilanjutkan untuk menjadi rencana ke depan di setiap kegiatan ini. Dampak dari kegiatan ini adalah para warga dapat menggunakan layanan internet dengan bijaksana dan lebih bermanfaat, bertambahnya wawasan untuk melakukan strategi promosi ataupun pemasaran melalui platform–platform yang ada di media sosial. Melalui diskusi dan feedback yang diberikan oleh para peserta adalah pelaksanaan kegiatan seperti ini bisa ditingkatkan dengan memberikan pelatihan–pelatihan yang lebih intensif terutama dalam pemanfaatan teknologi

Abstract

This research creates a website-based information system for recording Posyandu activities using Agile methods that support flexible development. This system is made so that cadres can more easily record data on toddlers and pregnant women and provide appropriate recommendations regarding nutritional status based on weighing results. The Black Box method is used for testing to ensure the application functions according to user needs. The test results show that this system can improve recording efficiency and support health decision making more quickly and accurately. It is recommended for further development that the system can be connected to government health services and has a notification feature to improve Posyandu services.

Abstract

The community service program, titled “Software Engineering Training: Multimedia for Creating Digital Video Profiles for Srengseng Sawah Urban Village Office,” aimed to enhance the digital communication skills of local government officials and residents through training in multimedia software. This initiative addressed several key issues in Kelurahan Srengseng Sawah, including the lack of digital media skills, the absence of engaging video profiles, and insufficient use of technology in public service communication. The program was implemented in five steps: identifying needs, conducting workshops, producing videos, creating training materials, and providing post-training mentoring. Participants learned through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in digital storytelling, videography, video editing, and content publishing. They also explored AI editing tools and how to share their videos online, enabling them to create professional-looking profiles that showcase the village's identity and services. The outcomes included the production of official digital content, improved skills for participants, and the development of training materials for future use. In summary, this initiative demonstrates how hands-on training can enhance digital skills and promote transparency in community communication.

Abstract

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to sweeping changes and disruptions in nearly every aspect of daily life. Covid-19 outbreak has a big economic impact changes, particularly from the middle to lower class society, because the economy is in decline and there are also many layoffs for employees in companies/factories. Many street vendors cannot sell normally due to the coronavirus as well., traditional motorcycle drivers, online motorcycle, taxi services cannot operate as usual due to PSBB regulations and decreased service orders due to social distancing. Many people still do not comply with government restrictions because they are forced to do so to meet their daily needs. Due to the above mentioned facts and in addition to boosting social connection and empathizing with others, some lecturers from IBI K57 worked together with KSD (Komunitas Sedakah Depok) GDC have shared breakfast packages to people in need such as garbage men, ojek drivers, scavengers, etc. This social activity The implementation of this social activity is carried out by prioritizing Covid-19 health procedures and protocols. The authors hope that this activity can be an inspiration for colleagues, students, and all communities that the awareness to share with others is the responsibility of all of us.

Abstract

The Internet facilitates everyone to interact in cyberspace, connecting people who are in distance. Through the internet, people can also access various social media platforms. Social media is at the core of a very primary need around the world with a huge number of users. Social media is a form of media transformation in today's sophisticated era. Social media gives people the freedom to express, to share opinions, do business, shop and to learn something as well. Besides, Social media can also have a negative impact if users don't use social media wisely and intelligently. Spending too much in social media can lead to poor sleep and numerous studies have shown that many negative impacts occurred in social media. Among young people, social media is used more for fun like posting photos, talking to friends, or doing something as simple as just checking what someone else is doing. The quality of utilizing social media as a useful medium for learning is still not done effectively, especially among students. This is also a concern that occurs among studens of IBI Kosgoro 1957, to improve the quality of social media information by using the internet media. Therefore, a training was conducted to pay special attention to improving the quality of social media information in the IBI Kosgoro 1957 campus.
