AbstractThe aim of this research is to know the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section tests of sixth semester at Batanghari University Academic Year 2016/2017. The sample of this research are 20 students sixth semester at Batanghari University which consist of two classes, regular A and B. The design of this research is descriptive method because the researcher just analysis the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section test. Based on the data analysis, the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program attained 60% which belong to fair category in Structure and Written Expression part. Based on the result of the research and the discussions that have been previously discussed in chapter IV, it can be concluded that the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section tests of sixth semester of English Education Study Program at Batanghari University was 60%, it belong to fair category. The purpose the of the research is to find out what are the communication strategy used by teacher in teaching English at SMPN 19 Kota Jambi in academic year 2017/2018. The method applied in conducting this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is four English teachers at SMPN 19 Kota Jambi. In collecting the data, the researcher use classroom observation and interview. The result of this research there are two communication strategies used by teachers while teaching English, namely two-ways communication and transactional communication. Based on the observation and interview result the researcher have concluded that the teacher often using various communication strategy in teaching English, namely two-ways communication and transactional communication. Moreover English teacher often use two-ways communication in teaching English rather than using transactional communication. It will make it easy for the students to understand the subject.Keywords: Communication Strategy, Teaching English

Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using Short English Movie at the Eleventh Grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Nurul fitri

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to find out students' vocabulary mastery by using the media short English movie. The experimental study involved eleventh high school students in SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. From 84 students who have two classes were selected as the study sample. The first class is class IPS 1 as experimental class and the second class is class IPS 4 as control class. After 2 sessions (within 2 weeks) post test is given. The researcher got the data from pre-test and post-test. In collecting data the instrument of this research is test. Based on the calculation of the statistical analysis, it is found that the value of t-test was 2.08 is higher than the value of t-table 1,67 it means Ha is accepted. Results of the data analysis have revealed that the teaching of English vocabulary by using media short English movie can improve students' vocabulary mastery.Keywords: Students’ vocabulary, short English movie.

THE PROBLEM OF LEARNING IN ENGLISH LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA N 8 BATANG HARI ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018 Gesa Sepritiani; Nurul Fitri

This study was intended to find out the s\students problem of learning English listening. The research method used qualitative method and questionnaire design. The population of this study was second grade students of SMA N 8 BATANGHARI JAMBI which consisted of 5 classes with 152 students divided into 69 men and 83 female. Tthe researcher only took randomly 5 class XI MIA 1, 5 class XI MIA 2, 5 class XI IIS 1 , 5 class IIS 2, 5 class IIS 3. The data of this research was collected by giving the questionnaire to students as the sample. The collected data were analyzed by using likert scale. After conducting the research, the researcher found that the problems in listening SMAN 8 as follows: 1) Difficult when students listen to the text just one time students need to practice their listening skills to capture text ideas, 2) listeners also need to take notes while listening to long listening texts. Students often ask to stop recording where there is a sound coming from the corridor or from another classroom. They feel more comfortable if the listening test is done in some places dedicated to listening like lab listening. Listening is one of the important skills in learning English. In addition, there are also three other components such as speaking, listening and writing. For students, it is recommended that they should improve their listening skills on time, so that students can perform tasks easily and correctly in the classroom.

The Representation of Liberal Feminism through the Main Character in “The Post” Movie Nur Azizah; Nurul Fitri

This research is aimed to find out representation of liberal feminism through the main character. This research used qualitative descriptive method and focused Marilley theory. The researcher used feminism concept to identify how the liberal feminism is presented in the movie. The supporting data were obtained from some sources, such as books, articles, and journals, related to gender discrimination, women‘s stereotypes, and feminism. In collecting the data, read-write technique was used. The data analysis was conducted using feminism approach. The researcher found that there are three types of liberal feminism. First the feminism of equal rights, second the feminism of fear, and last the feminism of personal development, in this research is dominant with feminism of personal development and liberal feminism representation in the movie.Keywords: Liberal Feminism, Main Character.
