Abstract

Increased PSA levels can be caused by prostate cancer, prostate infection, and BPH. Several studies report that the use of antibiotics can affect PSA levels. This study aims to determine the effect of ciprofloxacin administration in patients with prostate-specific antigen values ??of 4-10 ng/mL. This was an analytical study with a prospective cohort design. This study was conducted at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital, Padang starting from July 2022 until October 2022. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling method. The patient was given the antibiotic ciprofloxacin 2x500 mg for 2 weeks. PSA measurements were carried out before and after administration of antibiotics. There were 20 subject with an average age of 62.65 years (52-79). The mean of initial PSA value was 6.53 ng/mL and the final PSA value was 5.76 ng/mL. There was a significant difference between PSA levels before and after administration of ciprofloxacin (p=0.000). The use of antibiotics in patients with PSA levels of 4-10 ng/ml can reduce PSA levels.

Abstract

There are many management strategies and interventions both preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative  that can be carried out in dealing with postoperative pain. Guidelines for pain management have been prepared  by the American Pain Society (APS) with recommendations from  the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) where there are many recommendations in postoperative pain management in adults or children by promoting the provision of preoperative education, the use of various modalities both pharmacological and non-pharmacological to the establishment of pain management procedures or policies in each institution. For this reason, the author was interested in examining the comparison of the effectiveness of analgesia between intravenous tramadol and intravenous Paracetamol in minimally invasive Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) postoperative patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The research was a prospective study with a single-blind randomised controlled trial design. The data used were sourced from clinical trials conducted on post-PCNL patients divided into two subgroups given intravenous tramadol analgetics and others given Paracetamol tablets. In this study, the incidence of Nephrolithiasis was obtained, which was dominated by the male sex, compared to women and suffered a lot at the age of 41-60 years. There was a significant difference in VAS effectiveness between the use of Paracetamol IV and Tramadol IV in post-PCNL patients. The use of Paracetamol may be considered to replace tramadol in the disappearance of acute pain after PCNL postoperative patients in those patients who are allergic to tramadol.

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: Find out the correlation of catheter use duration with the incidence of overactive bladder symptoms (OABS) post Transurethral Resection of The Prostate (TURP) in patients with urinary retention due to Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). Material & Methods: An observational analytical research correlation with a cohort approach was carried out on 29 patients with urinary retention due to BPH post TURP in five hospitals in Padang from January 2019 to August 2019. Data collected included the characteristics and duration of catheter use, which were obtained through interviews using questionnaires, while those of OABS were obtained based on the total score by using the overactive bladder symptoms score (OABSS) standard questionnaire. Results: The average duration of catheter use was 14.9 ± 8.0 days, and the average total OABSS score was 4.7 ± 2.5. Bivariate analysis results showed a positive correlation with a weak strength between the duration of catheter use and the total OABSS score (Pearson’s correlation, r = 0.396, p = 0.033). Conclusion: It is necessary to shorten the duration of catheter use to decrease the incidence and severity of OABS in patients with urinary retention due to BPH post TURP. Keywords: Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, duration of catheter use, overactive bladder, urinary retention.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer is closely linked to chronic inflammation; long-standing colitis confers a 2–3-fold higher risk. Modulating the gut–immune axis with probiotics may attenuate the inflammatory microenvironment of colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC). Objective:To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of probiotics in CAC animal models. Methods: We searched PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Online Library; 248 records were screened and 9 studies met inclusion. Risk of bias was appraised using SYRCLE RoB. Results: Probiotic treatment consistently reduced clinical severity, down-regulated inflammatory markers, and modulated key signaling pathways in CAC models. Nonetheless, evidence was heterogeneous, sample sizes were small, and dosing, strains, and formulations varied; safety reporting was limited. Conclusions: Probiotics show promise as anti-inflammatory adjuncts in CAC based on animal studies. Rigorous, standardized preclinical work and well-designed trials are needed to define optimal strains, dosing, and formulations, and to confirm efficacy and safety for translation.

Abstract

Objective: To explore the correlation between the reduction of oxidative stress and liver enzyme function in rats with obstructive jaundice, using malondialdehyde (MDA) levels as a biochemical marker, and its impact on serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) levels; Method: This experimental study used a post-test only randomized control group design in three groups of Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar rats with an obstructive jaundice model. The rats underwent biliary duct ligation and received Lactococcus lactis D4 starter fermented milk for 7 days. Oxidative stress was assessed by measuring MDA levels and Liver function was assessed by measuring levels of SGOT ; Result: The correlation analysis show an r-value of 0.886 revealed that there a very strong positive correlation between MDA and SGOT levels after LLD4 administration; Conclusion: Lactococcus lactis D4 starter fermented milk can improve liver function, indicated by decreased MDA levels and SGOT  levels in experimental animals.
