Abstract

In literary studies, novels carry various ideological values, such as national ideology. Empirical evidence shows that national ideologies can influence and shape regimes nationally and internationally. One of the manifestations of national ideology can be actualized in literary works such as novels and short stories. This research aims to examine the value of nationality in the works of Leila S. Chudori by using the hermeneutic method formulated by Paul Ricoeur. This research is descriptive qualitative research, and the data used are Leila S. Chudori's works, namely 2 novels and 2 short story collections. Meanwhile, data analysis techniques are carried out in three basic stages of hermeneutics formulated by Ricoeur (1975): understanding, discussion, and interpretation. The results show that Leila S. Chudori's works have succeeded in entering the deepest aspects of national values, including psychological, sociological, and historical aspects. The narration in the plot, characters, and themes in Leila S. Chudori's works are able to articulate national values through the characters presented by the author. The narration is related to the memory of Indonesia, love for Indonesia, pride in Indonesia, and Indonesian identity.

Abstract

The colonial period was the planting of orientalist concepts towards the East, where the differences between East and West were very much shown. This of course did not escape the views of several Indonesian writers and writers who then tried to record this phenomenon in their literary works. One of the Indonesian writers, Iksaka Banu, who discusses the conflict between the natives and the Dutch, the Dutch and ethnic Chinese, to the conflict between the Dutch and the Dutch in various experiences and one of them is Iksaka Banu's latest collection of short stories entitled Teh dan Penghianat which was just published in 2019. This research using qualitative descriptive method aims to describe the form and role of orientalism in the collection of Teh and the traitor by Iksaka Banu by taking two short stories as material for analysis, namely 'Teh dan Pengianat' and ‘Belenggu Emas’. The data collection technique was carried out by document study techniques in short stories, namely by collecting data in the form of document archives, including books and journals. Meanwhile, the data triangulation process in the form of theoretical triangulation, data source triangulation and researcher triangulation, was carried out by the author to check the validity of the data. By using the theory put forward by Edward Said, this research concludes that in the short story Teh dan Pengtangan, there can be found several depictions of the East in the context of orientalism which symbolized by indigenous and ethnic Chinese. Meanwhile, in the short story Belenggu Emas, the depiction of the east in the context of orientalism is described as an indigenous community that needs to be improved or educated

Abstract

Literature essentially provides authors with the opportunity to explore freely without restrictive conventional rules. Freedom in writing literature provides a broader space for authors to express their thoughts and critique phenomena within society. Literary freedom ultimately allows literature to intersect with various social sectors, which often creates problems between authors and the public (readers). The use of symbols in literary works, which are rife with ambiguity, often creates a dualism of meaning for readers. The multi-interpretive nature of literature elicits varying responses from each reader, not always positive. Polemics, debates, and even clashes resulting from differing perspectives are commonplace in the literary world. Avoiding debates stemming from differing reader perspectives is difficult, but it can be achieved by observing ethics and maintaining societal norms. Literary freedom, in essence, does not free authors from their attachment to prevailing societal norms. Literary ethics exist, where social, cultural, religious, and other norms must be maintained throughout the creative process.

Abstract

Abstract

Phonology as a linguistic study is used as a subject studied by students at universities. Phonology learning is often considered a difficult subject by some students. Therefore, lecturers as educators must be able to deliver the material well to achieve the expected learning. The biggest challenge in learning phonology is the differences in phonological systems in various languages. The use of learning media in teaching phonology can provide assistance and convenience for students. One learning media that can reach a wide range of references is media using Quick Response Codes (QR codes). QR codes can be utilized through various applications, one of which is the Canva application. This community service activity was carried out on September 23-25, 2025, with a total of 63 students taking the phonology course for the 2025/2026 academic year. The results of the activity showed that utilizing Canva learning media integrated with QR codes provides easy access for students to access various references, materials, and teaching materials for phonology studies. Therefore, such learning media is very necessary to make classes more active, meaningful, and provide experience and knowledge for students.
