Abstract

Bay leaves contain flavonoid active compounds including quercetine and fluoretine having antioxidative and antimicrobial properties. Bay leaves can be given as feed additive to improve body metabolism in animals. This study was aimed at assessing the effects of the inclusion of bay leaf solution in drinking water on the performance and carcass quality of male MA ducks. Seventy-two male one-day-old MA ducks were allocated into battery cages (50 cm length, 50 cm width, 78 cm height). The ducks were fed commercial rations containing 21-23% CP and 2820-2920 Kcal/kg ME and given drinking water containing bay leaf solution (LDS). A completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 6 replicates of 4 ducks each was used. Treatments consisted of drinking water containing no LDS (R0), drinking water containing 4% LDS (R1), and drinking water containing 8% LDS (R2). Measurements were taken on production performance and percentages of carcass parts. Results showed that th einclusion of LDS in drinking water gave significant effects (P<0.05) on body weight gain but not (P>0.05) on all carcass composition parameters. It was concluded that the inclusion of LDS in drinking water up to 8% resulted in a mean body weight gain of 194.88±10.88 g/head/day but did not affect the percentages of carcass and its parts including breast, wing, and thigh. It was recommended that LDS be included by up to 8% in drinking water of male MA ducks for optimal body weight gain.

Abstract

Duck egg is known to have an unpleasant fishy odor which often becomes a factor reducing its acceptance in public. This odor is resulted from lipid oxidation which can be avoided by using an antioxidant. This study was aimed at assessing the effects of the inclusion of star gooseberry (Sauropus androgynus) dried leaf extract in ration on egg organoleptic quality of local duck. The study was conducted in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. Sensory test by 60 semi-trained panelists and hedonic quality and hedonic tests were conducted. Data were subjected to a Kruskal-Wallis test. Results showed that treatments gave significant effects (P <0.05) on aroma (hedonic), yolk color, and aroma (hedonic quality). It was concluded that the inclusion of star gooseberry dried leaf extract by 1,5% in ration improved the quality of egg yolk color, egg aroma, and consumers’ preference. A further study on the effects of DSGLE on meat quality and protein digestibility in ducks was recommended.

Abstract

Local chickens are among the enormous poultry genetic sources in Indonesia.  These chickens are potential to develop as they are found in big population throughout the country.  Chicken meat is a nutritious food containing nutrients including carbohydrate, protein, fat, water, minerals, and vitamins in balanced proportion.  Improvement of nutritive contents of Balitnak Superior Local Chicken (KUB chicken) meat can be achieved by providing the chickens with quality and nutritious feed.  The inclusion of star gooseberry leaf meal can be an alternative as it is nutritious, cheap, and plenty.  This study was aimed at assessing effects of star gooseberry leaf meal (SGLM) inclusion in ration on physical and nutritional quality of KUB chicken breast meat. Ninety-six (KUB chickens) aged 7 days were allocated into 4 treatments and 4 replicates in a completely randomized design.  Treatments consisted of 0% SGLM inclusion in ration (R0), 1% SGLM inclusion in ration (R1), 2% SGLM inclusion in ration (R2), and 3% SGLM inclusion in ration (R3).  Data were subjected to an analysis of variance (anova) and a Duncan test.  Results showed that treatments significantly increased (P<0.05) water but not (P>0.05) ash, fat, and protein contents of breast meat.  Meat water holding capacity, cooking loss, and tenderness were found to be improved (P<0,05) but no different (P>0.05) meat pH was observed.

Abstract

Duck meat is a source of protein from poultry which can be used to meet human animal protein needs. This is because duck meat has good nutritional content like chicken meat. However, duck meat is less favorable than chicken meat. Utilization of rejected ducks (Cairina Moschata) is still very limited. Refined duck meat has a characteristic odor, namely off odor and a rough and tough texture, so it requires separate handling so that it can be used further. Utilization of male or rejected duck meat has not been widely developed in the wider community. Meat tenderness is influenced by connective tissue protein, the older the livestock, the amount of connective tissue is greater, causing the meat to become tough or tough. This condition causes the rejected livestock to have a low selling price. Processing of meat and eggs can improve organoleptic and increase the variety of processed forms, allowing the preparation to be available at all times and save time and effort before the food is ready to be served. Bojongkerta Village has potential in duck farming. Ownership of land for farmers is relatively broad and is supported by less dense community settlements. However, the potential of the area is not supported by adequate.

Abstract

Research on Influence of Egg Shape and Egg Weight on Characteristic of  Quilted Egg (Coturnix coturnix japonica) has been done for one month, this research aim to know the influence of egg shape and egg weight to fertility, hatchability,  hatching weight, and sex in bird Quail and can select good egg weight to hatch. This study used quail eggs (Coturnix coturnix japonica), as many as 216 grains divided into two groups. Each is a group with an egg shape (pointed, semi-pointed, and round) and group with egg weight (mild, moderate, and severe). The hatching machine used is semi-automatic hatching machine, before the egg is inserted into the hatching machine is done selection that includes egg shape and egg weight, egg shape selection is done by measuring the width and length of eggs using sliding and egg weight is done by weighing the eggs with scales digital. The first factor is egg form with three levels, A1 (egg taper = 75 - 78,12%), A2 (semi-pointed egg = 79,59 - 82,11%), and A3 (round = 82,78 - 86,76 %). While the second factor is the egg weight of three levels namely B1 (light weight = 9 - 10 grams), B2 (Medium weight = 11-12 grams) and B3 (Weight = 13-14 grams). Of the 2 factors with three levels were obtained 9 treatment combinations of each treatment repeated 4 times, each repetition consisted of 6 grains. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (RAL) 3 x 3 factorial pattern for fertility variables, hatchability, hatching weight and percentage of male sex. The results showed that the eggs did not give a significant effect on fertility, hatchability, hatching and sex weights, whereas for egg weight only had a significant effect on hatch and percentage of male sex.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Kesimpulannya adalah ransum yang mengandung daun katuk hingga 3% tidak mengubah karakteristik sensoris daging ayam KUB.(Sensory quality of Kampung Unggul Balitnak (KUB) chicken fed on the katuk leaf meal (Sauropus androgynus) in ration)ABSTRAK. KUB chickens are local poultry resulting from breeding innovations carried out by Balitnak. The characteristics of KUB chicken meat resemble local or village chicken meat in general, which is a bit tough. Toughness or tenderness factors such as aroma and color greatly affect acceptance in society. Katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus) contain PUFAs, flavonoids and vitamin C. This study aimed to test the sensory quality of superior-grade native chicken (KUB) meat fed with katuk leaf flour (Sauropus androgynus) in the diet. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments in this study were R0 = 0% katuk leaf flour, R1 = 1% katuk leaf flour, R2 = 2% katuk leaf flour, R3 = 3% katuk leaf flour. The variables observed in this study were hedonic test and hedonic quality, which consisted of aroma, tenderness, color, taste, and juiciness. The data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis calculations. The organoleptic test showed that katuk leaf flour given as a feed additive in the ration was not significantly different (P0.05) in aroma, tenderness, color, taste, and juiciness. The conclusion was that rations containing katuk leaves up to 3% did not change the sensory characteristics of KUB chicken meat.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of managerial ownership and good corporate governance on the triple bottom line, with financial performance as a moderator. The plantation sub-sector industry in Indonesia has contributed 54.99% of total GDP. This study uses moderated regression analysis. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with a sample size of 10 companies for 3 years with a reporting period of 2020-2022. The results of the study partially show that management ownership has a positive and significant effect, while good corporate governance with the independence of commissioners, the board of commissioners has a positive and significant effect, while the audit committee, the board of directors has a negative and significant effect on the implementation of the triple bottom line. Simultaneously, the variables of management ownership and good corporate governance have a significant effect on the implementation of the triple bottom line. The results of the MRA financial performance study do not moderate the variables of management ownership and the Good Corporate Governance variable. This study still has shortcomings such as the research period, the minimum number of samples so that it is less able to provide the actual condition of the company.
