Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to describe the strategy of a non-governmental organization, named the Fair Labor Association (FLA) to encourage Nestlé to make behavioral changes by using qualitative methods. The problem of child labor in Ivory Coast has become a complicated issues that need to be solved. As one of the largest food companies in the world and for supplying cocoa from the Ivory Coast, Nestlé has an important role in combating child labor issues. However, Nestlé has not been able to reduce the number of child labor in Ivory Coast. Therefore, the researcher uses the conceptual framework of private authority theory and the strategy of non-governmental organizations in encouraging companies to do Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This research can then see that FLA's auditing and reporting strategies can help Nestlé and Ivory Coast reduce child labor numbers and create a better life for the society than before. Abstract

The unsustainable management of palm oil is seen from the massive expansion of oil palm plantations that cause various adverse impacts. One of the unsustainable management of palm oil is the management of Wilmar Company in Indonesia. One of these actions is by clearing land and clearing mangrove forests in the conservation area of Balikpapan Bay in 2013.This study uses qualitative research approach and theory of effectiveness of international regimes to analyze the unachieversed stages of sustainable management characterized by impact stages. The cause of Wilmar Company's unsuccessful success in achieving sustainable management in accordance with RSPO certification standards is due to the unfulfillment of implementation on three important components. The three components are the high level of complexity of the problem, the weak problem solving capacity and the lack of full level of collaboration in the implementation of RSPO certification on the management of Wilmar palm oil in Indonesia. Abstract

This research aims to describe the reason behind the Government of Philippine supporting 5G technology from Huawei through qualitative method. Massive pressure from United States as alliance who bans Huawei and spread the message to all states over the world does not influence Philippine from using this technology nationally. Eventhough United States has spesifically warned Philippine to avoid using 5G from Huawei in a state visit, Philippine keep taking different decision and support this technology. Therefore, Reseacher uses three main concepts such as Neoclassical Realism, Cybersecurity, and Digital Economy to answer the reason behind Philippine support towards Huawei’s 5G. This research appraises that Philippine’s support as a response to international structure and domestic factor which put digital economy and cybersecutiy forward through the implementation of Huawei’s 5G. Abstract

United States has decided to cut off military aid to Egypt in 2013. The decision was made due to Egypt’s political unstably that disgrace democratic and human rights values. Despite the fact that Egypt’s domestic situation remained unstable, United States immediately decided to restore the aforementioned military aid to Egypt in 2014-2015. Reasons behind United States’ military aid restoration in 2014-2015 will be explained by applying Neoclassical Realism theory in this research. Based on the applied theory, some findings appeared that the policy to restore military aid are dependent on two reasons. First, systemic stimuli in form of threats arise in international structure. Second, domestic factors such as leader, domestic institution, state-society relations, and strategic culture are the basis of United States to set a policy to counter the systemic stimuli. This research applies qualitative descriptive method. Keywords: United States of America, military aid, aid restoration policy, Neoclassical Realism

Abstract

This research aims to describe the reasons for the Turkish Government to continue purchasing Russian S-400 weapons through qualitative-descriptive method. Massive sanctions imposed by the United States as an alliance country that prohibits transactions of weapons from Russia did not affect Turkey's decision to continue purchasing the S-400. Whereas the United States has specifically warned about the security threat that S-400 poses to the NATO alliance, Turkey ignored the warning and continued to process the purchase of this weapon. Therefore, this research uses Neoclassical Realism theoretical perspective by analyzing internal and external factors in answering the reasons behind Turkey's measure to continue the purchase of S-400 agreement with Russia. This research finds that Turkey's decision is a response to systemic pressures, international structures, and domestic factors. Abstract

The struggle to change patriarchal ideology towards gender equality in Bali requires commitment, energy, and time. A number of women in Bali took positions and actions to be intensively engaged in the gender equality movement. The purpose of this research is to understand the narrative identity of gender equality activists in Bali. With phenomenology method, this study finds that the motivation to engage in the gender equality movement stems from the interpretation of personal observations on cases of discrimination and marginalization of women in their respective environments. This meaning becomes the basis of their identity as women activists. Political reforms and affirmative policies towards women are seen by them as opportunities to start taking part in or enlarging the gender equality movement. The meaning of self and value orientation underlies the choice to focus on the movement segment which includes gender education, legal case assistance, and socialization of gender equality norms.

Abstract

The collective identity as customary village members in Bali has played a significant role in creating consistency of the movement to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation project. This article aimed to study the construction of the collective identity of the customary village members in Bali. By using a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, this study examines the structure of awareness of the subjects concerning the phenomenon of the movement rejecting the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. This research finds that the collective identity of the customary village in Bali in opposing Benoa Bay reclamation occurred through a process of construction among social movement actors both in latent dimension (daily activities) and visible dimension through collective actions. The construction of the collective identity of the customary village members involved elements of cognition, affection or emotion, as well as social relations both in the internal movement groups, as well as with external parties. Keywords: Benoa Bay reclamation project, collective identity, customary village, social movement.

Abstract

Kata-kata kunci: norma global, difusi, glokalisasi, gerakan gender, transnasionalismeThis article aims to analyze the approach of women activists in Bali in diffusing global norms of gender equality. Their activities deal with patriarchal Balinese cultural tradition. Using a qualitative method of phenomenology, the study describes the experiences of women activists in Bali in the space of transnationalism. This study finds that efforts to diffuse norms from the global to the domestic and local domains do not occur in a linear fashion. Ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women by the Government of Indonesia in 1984 does not mean that gender equality norms can spread and be internalized in society automatically. Activists in the women’s movement have an important role in promoting the importance of women’s rights. They make adaptations so that the norms of gender equality at the global level gain acceptance in certain segments of Balinese culture. The strategy choices in the diffusion of norms by women activists in Bali are the result of the interaction between their identity and understanding of local culture, interaction in international advocacy networks and the use of political opportunities both from the international and domestic spheres. The experiences of interacting directly with gender activists in Western countries give rise to creative ideas to adopt the practice of gender movement that has been successful abroad to be applied at the local level. Keywords: global norms, diffusion, glocalization, gender movement, transnationalism
