Abstract

Farmers perform double roles at the same time in treating rice commodity, that are as producers and as consumers. This research tried to find out the average amount of rice marketable surplus at the hand of farmers’ households and to analyze which variables significantly influence the surplus.  The results of the research conducted in four rice production centres od South Sumatra reveal that the average rice consumption of famers’ households were 98,42 kg per person or 402.75 kg per household with 4 members, while their rice production were 5842,75 kg per household.  Farmers in all rice production centers have actually carried out marketable surplus on their rice production as their consumed a portion as needed and sold the majority amounts to the market.  There were variations of rice consumed between rice production centers.  Rice marketable surplus in all production centers (OKU Timur, OKI, Musi Rawas and Banyuasin) were significantly influenced by rice production.  In three production centers, the rice production also was influenced significantly by the number of household members and off-farm income, while in two production centers, it was also determined by rice price and age composition of farmer family members.  The other variables affected rice marketable surplus exclusively in each area.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence that affects changes in rubber prices at the farmer level before and during the covid-19 pandemic. This study uses panel data for 24 (twenty-four) months, from January 2019 to December 2020. The response variable (Y) is the price of rubber at the farmer level in South Sumatra Province obtained from 28 UPPB (Rubber Processing and Marketing Units). The analysis tool used is a multiple regression of panel data with the help of RStudio software. The results of the analysis using the Random Effect Model (REM) method showed that international rubber prices, rupiah exchange rates against the US dollar, world crude oil prices and synthetic rubber prices were both real influences on rubber prices at the farmer level, both before and during the covid-19 pandemic. Changes in international rubber prices during the covid-19 pandemic had a much greater positive impact on rubber prices at the farmer level than before the pandemic, while the change in rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar and world crude oil and synthetic rubber prices was smaller. Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of the use of subsidized fertilizer in reducing production costs and its effect on the income of lowland rice farming in Tanjung Lago District. The use of subsidized fertilizers as a factor of production in addition to increase productivity is also expected to reduce production costs and can affect the income of rice farmers. The approach model in this research is statistical analysis. The results showed that the use of subsidized fertilizers reduced production costs by 5% and affected the income of rice farmers in Tanjung Lago District. For one hectare of land at the same time during the planting season, farmers who receive 3 types of subsidized fertilizers earn an average of Rp. 21.913.710, - and for farmers who receive 2 types of subsidized fertilizer, the average income reaches Rp. 14.411.540, - with the percentage difference in income reaching 34%. This difference in income is not only influenced by the suppression of production costs from inputs using subsidized fertilizers but is also influenced by farmers' income due to differences in production results.

Abstract

Gambier is the leading commodity of Musi Banyuasin Regency and the only regency in South Sumatra Province that actively cultivates and processes the gambier commodity. This study aimed to formulate alternative strategies for developing gambier agribusiness. This research was conducted in Toman Village, Babat Toman District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research site was selected using a purposive sampling method. This study employed a survey approach involving eleven respondents, comprising experts, gambier farmers, and members of the general public in Toman Village. The data collected were analyzed qualitatively using a SWOT analysis framework. The results of the SWOT analysis indicate that the primary strategy for developing the gambier agribusiness falls within the first quadrant, representing the Strengths-Opportunities (SO) strategy. This strategy focuses on leveraging existing strengths to capitalize on and optimize available opportunities. The proposed actions include maximizing the application of cultivation technologies in gambier farming, expanding agro-industrial activities to enhance value-added processing, strengthening institutional support for gambier farmers, and promoting increased domestic consumption of gambier products. Through the implementation of this strategy, the main problem of gambier agribussiness in Toman Village, namely the low quality and limited inovation of gambier products, can be effectively addressed.
