Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the fluctuations of rice price and rice marketing margin changes over time in Indonesia as well as examine the causes of these changes. The method used in this research is the empirical method that uses statistical and econometric analysis tool in the classification of time series models. Data are obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the secondary data are monthly data of dry milled grain price in producer level and rice price in consumer level from 2008 to 2015. The analysis showed the rice price that uses real price data both at the level of producer and consumer are showed an upward trend. It means beside inflation, there is another factor that caused the rising of rice prices. The rice price in Indonesia tends to increase every year, it is also seemed to fluctuate over time, with a larger price fluctuations at the farm level than consumer level. The rice price in producer and consumer level did not move with the same pattern in 2014, this led to the difference marketing margins among the time. Differences rice marketing margin is due to the structure of the rice market in Indonesia is imperfectly competitive market or tend to oligopsony / oligopoly, in the market of rice trader is a price maker while rice farmers and consumers are price takers.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the vertical integration of markets between producers market grain rice with a retail market in Indonesia. Results of analysis useful for government to review whether the price received by farmers is quite feasible when viewed from the price of rice sold to consumers. The data used are secondary data from monthly data for average price of rice retail and average prices of grain producers in Indonesia. Monthly data from January 2000 to December 2008 is the time series data and analyzed with a model of Vector Autoregression (VAR). The results showed that the price movements of grain producers and rice consumers in Indonesia have a similar direction, but the price of grain producers more volatile than rice consumers. Grain producers market has not fully integrated with the rice retail market in Indonesia. In the short term grain producers market influenced by rice consumers market but it does not vice versa. Government intervention is needed in the grain producers market. If the grain producers market is fully integrated with rice retail market, it will mean changes in the retail price of rice is also followed by changes in the price of grain producers with the same direction. How to cite:Aryani, D. Abstract

Abstract

Lahat is one of the Robusta coffee production centers in South Sumatra. The coffee beansproduced by this district are often used as raw material in the coffee shop in Palembang because of thedistinctive taste and aroma that coffee lovers love. Coffee shops opens new opportunities for Robustacoffee farming. This study aims to analyze the flow of the supply chain and the added value of Lahatcoffee beans used by coffee shop. This research was conducted through a survey of four coffee shops inPalembang. The results showed that there are two supply chain lines, (1) coffee farmers - collectors -retailers - market traders - consumers; (2) coffee farmers - processors - coffee shops - consumers. Thesecond pattern is better and more profitable than the first pattern because the quality of the coffeeproduced is higher. The average added value obtained from processing one kilogram of coffee cherriesinto ground coffee is Rp. 158,132.94, coffee bean into green bean is Rp. 427,798.55, and green beaninto a cup of coffee is Rp. 1,029,269.00. This value indicates that processing the coffee cherries intopowder and processing the selected coffee cherries in coffee shop are profitable.

Abstract

Pasemah Air Keruh District is one of the biggest Robusta coffee-producing areas in Empat Lawang Regency. This research aims to (1) determine the channels and marketing functions; (2) determine the structure, conduct, and performance of the market. Sampling methods used were snowball and simple random sampling. The data analysis methods used were (1) descriptive analysis to explain the channels and marketing functions; (2) structure, conduct, and performance analysis to explain marketing efficiency based on surveys, observations, and interviews using a questionnaire. The results showed that there are two marketing channels, (1) coffee farmers - village collecting traders - district collecting traders - wholesalers - exporters; (2) coffee farmers - retailers - consumers. The marketing functions are not fully carried out by marketing agencies. The market structure is oligopsony. The market conduct shows that price is dominated by middlemen, limited market information, and the absence of government policy on coffee prices. The market performance shows high marketing margins, an uneven margin distribution, low farmers’ share, and a low K/B ratio. It means that coffee marketing is inefficient. The government should make policies that encourage the coffee sector to become a large- scale business, such as making regulations, expanding access to capital, domestic and export market networks.

Abstract

The risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) can occur in a variety of occupations including in traditional jewelers. The complaint is caused by an awkward position during work activities. The study aims to identify complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). This study used qualitative approach through in-depth interviews on 5 key informants and 2 key expert informants and ergonomic risk determination referring to the BRIEF method. The results showed that all informants experienced complaints of the upper neck, lower neck, right shoulder, back, right elbow, right upper arm, and right forearm. Measurements through the BRIEF sheet show that complaints on the left and right elbows, left and right shoulders, neck, and back include high category ergonomic hazards while complaints on the hands and wrists of the right include moderate category ergonomic hazards. High risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) is found at all stages of work (smelting, grinding, posturing, jewelry formation, and gilding). Therefore, workers are recommended to perform muscle relaxation for (8-12 seconds) every half hour.

Abstract

The initiation of market within ASEAN members especially for agricultural products will lead to the price relation on those products. The low of one price will take place if no trade barriers are imposed. As a result, price transmission and also market integration are hampered due to this trade policy. The objective of this study is to analyze spatial market integration of rice commodity in Thailand, Philippines, and the Indonesia. The studies used secondary data such as monthly price of rice and domestic exchange rate each country to US Dollar. Vector Auto Regression model was then applied to investigate whether rice markets in these countries are co-integrated. The result showed that rice market in Thailand, Philippines, and the Indonesia are co-integrated however at a weak level. This condition is a consequence of import policy (tariff and non-tariff) applied by these countries. Keywords: market integration, price, rice
