This study is the result of the analysis of the novel of Inside Out and Back Again (2011) written by Thanhha Lai. Topics covered are how the business of women from her childhood in reaching the realm to show her existence in the social environment. The issues raised are the extent to which the protagonist expresses the realm accession process to demonstrate its ability, as well as how far the function of fiction elements, such as setting and conflict influential to demonstrate the business. Results of this study is to discover the extent of the protagonist reaches the realm of effort in showing her abilities, and to investigate the role of setting and plot in helping determine those efforts. The theory used in this analysis is the feminist concept of Trinha Minh-ha and psychosocial concept of Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman. Assessment method used is text-based interpretation and context-based interpretation. The results of this analysis indicate that women from an early age can achieve a wider sphere to show his ability by way of awareness of differences and turn them into concrete efforts and spur him to learn more.

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of speaking back to European’s idea of greatness which is done by a Moorish slave.Fictional devices such ascharacter, plot (conflict), and setting are used to analyze this novel. The analysis is done through text and context-based interpretation. This study relates to the concept of orientalism and otherness by Edward W.Said. The result of this study shows the character succeeds to speak back to European’s idea of greatness by showing his dignity and his high intelligence.

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of Borderline Personality Disordere which is represented by the main character and to know the contribution of the plot, setting, and character in revealing the Borderline Personality Disorder. This analysis is related to the concept neurosis by Freud that is supported by the text-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the main character has Borderline Personality Disorder that can be seen from the main character’s inappropriate emotional reactions and highly self-destructive behaviors.

Skripsi ini merupakan kajian dari Novel The Eye of The Sheep (2014) karya Sofie Laguna. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam kajian ini adalah sejauh mana protagonis merefleksikan usahanya untuk menakhlukkan kesulitan-kesulitan yang muncul dalam hidupnya. Tujuan dari kajian ini adalah untuk menemukan sejauh mana kontribusi elemen fiksi (karakter, seting, dan plot/ konflik) membantu untuk mengetahui usaha yang dilakukan protagonis untuk menakhlukkan kesulitan-kesulitan yang muncul dalam hidupnya. Pengkajian karya ini berdasarkan text-based dan context based interpretation yang berkaitan dengan konsep Sigmund Freud tentang drive theory. Hasil kajian menemukan protagonist mampu menghadapi permasalahan hidupnya dengan cara bersosialisasi dan mandiri.

This article is about the analysis of novel Age of Ambition Chasing: Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China (2014) by Evan Osnos that focuses on how the main character does the resistance toward the government. The problem in this analysis how far the main character in the novel exposes the issue about defiance. The aim of this analysis is to find out how far Evan Osnos’ novel Age of Ambition Chasing: Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China brings up and reveal the issue of defiance which is done by the main character in this novel. This analysis involved the fictional devices that are plot (conflict) and setting to support the issue of defiance. This analysis deals with the concept of power by Michel Foucault.

This thesis is the analysis of a play written by Annie Baker entitled The Flick (2013). It explores the issue of striving for survival and success reflected by the main character. This issue refers to the way the main character deals with all the difficulties and tries to reach a dream in his life. It is also intended to find out the contribution of fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and stage direction in revealing the issue of striving for survival and success. This analysis is related to the concept of life instinct which developed by Sigmund Freud and also supported by the text-based and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows about the way the main character persistence in surviving and achieving goals in his life through the efforts of socialization and self-interest exploration made by the character.

It is also intended to find out how the characters, setting, plot or conflict to contribute in revealing the issue of State domination enforcement. The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of determination to survive in novel The Green Road (2015) by Anne Enright. The issue of determination to survive refers to how the protagonist whose name is Constance reacts and makes efforts in facing life hardships. This analysis looks at the protagonist’s two effort done by the character which are building strong self-acceptance and being independent. This analysis is related to life instinct theory proposed by Sigmund Freud. The uses of the theory is based on the interpretation of the text and context of the novel. This analysis also depends a lot on fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict) and setting to determine which part of the novel that will be used as the data. The result of the study reveals that the protagonist builds her self-acceptance and shows her independence in order to survive.
