The use of emotional labour in teachers is of course very much needed both outside the classroom and in the classroom. Emotions can be divided into positive and negative emotions. However, not many studies have conducted the range of these emotions in emotional labour and various kinds of regulation. This study used narrative inquiry that aimed to identify English teachers’ emotional labour while teaching speaking in EFL class. The research data were collected through interview and then analyzed by using thematic analysis. The research found that the English teachers at one of the senior high school in Mojokerto felt both negative and positive emotions when teaching speaking. However, with the negative emotions that arise, this was easily overcome by regulating it. The regulating carried out by the teachers are social interaction and the use mindset. With those regulations, teachers easily changed their negative emotions into positive emotions. The same went for positive emotions. In this study, some positive emotions need to be regulated and some do not.

Abstract

This study focuses on EFL teachers’ readiness in using technology in teaching English. According to the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework (Davis, 1989), people’s perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness will lead to the person’s attitude toward using technology. Qualitative case study was carried out to explore EFL teachers’ readiness to use technology in teaching. The data from interview analyzed using thematic analysis. To enrich the data, observation also employed. In this case, teachers’ attitude towards using is almost in the same height and generally low. However, their perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness result are varying. Based on the findings in my study, I found that the teachers feel that technology for learning is very useful for them. However, they feel it is not easy to use and also somewhat those teachers were resistant to accept the existence of technology in teaching. These shows that that the teachers in the school are not ready yet to use technology in teaching English.

Abstract

Self-efficacy beliefs is an important matter especially for teachers to have it as it enables an individual’s will to not give up easily if faced with challenging situations. By having high self-efficacy beliefs, teachers are expected to be able to effectively handle the difficulties they face in their classrooms so that they are able to select teaching methods, technique as well as the materials that will help them in teaching. However, little has been done on exploring specifically about English teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs in teaching reading using technology during the post-pandemic era. This study is done by implementing narrative inquiry which expected to be able to give detailed information about teachers’ personal experience in utilizing technology and how they evaluate their self-efficacy dealing with it. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data obtained. Findings showed that despite implementing technology to increase students’ motivation is a success, it doesn’t apply in increasing students’ achievements. Therefore, to improve students’ achievements the teachers decided to focus on sharpening the students’ basic skills using school textbooks. Moreover, teachers also apply variations in teaching reading by implementing group work.
