Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of several toothpastes on the growth of Streptococcus mutans which is the main cause of tooth decay. The study used 5 types of toothpaste, namely toothpaste A, toothpaste B, toothpaste C, toothpaste D, and toothpaste E. The antibacterial testing method used the diffusion method with the cup-plate technique. The significance level of each type of toothpaste was measured using a completely randomized design followed by a Tukey test to see differences in toothpaste treatment. The results showed that toothpaste A with active ingredients Monofluorophosphate Sodium 1.12%, Triclosan 0.3%, Calcium Glycerophosphate 0.13% had the largest average resistance zone of 27.3 mm. Whereas Toothpaste E with the active ingredient 0.08% Sodium Monofluorophosphate, 0.01% Sodium Fluoride has the smallest average resistance zone, which is 14.25 mm. The diameter of the ANOVA test zone of several types of barrier toothpaste against Streptococcus mutans at 95% confidence intervals showed that there was a significant difference.

Abstract

Tuna (Thunnus sp.) is a rich source of animal protein, containing high levels of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, and has fine meat fiber. Therefore, tuna fish is an excellent source of animal protein for producing complementary foods to meet the protein needs of breastfed infants and children under five. This study aims to assess the differences in average height and weight of children according to age before and after receiving fish-based and processed complementary foods. The research involved 25 stunted children aged 6-36 months, who were given. Fish-based complementary food and processed fish complementary food (meatballs and nuggets) twice a day for 36 days. Data on children's height and weight were collected before and after the intervention. A paired t-test with a significance level of 95% (alpha 0.05) was used to analyze the data. The results showed a significant difference in children's average height and weight before and after the intervention of fish-based and processed complementary foods. On average, the children's height increased by 3.22 cm, and their weight increased by 1.12 kg after receiving the fish-based complementary foods.

Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) and shallot Lakor (Allium ascalonicum L.) local products are plants that are used as spices for various dishes and can be used as herbal medicine. For natural use, safe and easy to consume which can be seen through its potential as herbal medicine, a study was carried out to test the antimicrobial potential of garlic (Allium sativum L.) and Lakor shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) juice on the growth of bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus). Lakor garlic and shallots are grated, the results of grated Lakor garlic and shallots are squeezed to produce 100% pure onion bulb juice. Lakor garlic and shallot juice was diluted with concentrations of 25%, 35%, 45%, 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% and 95%, respectively. Antimicrobial activity was tested by the diffusion method using a disk to measure the diameter of the clear zone. The results showed that garlic (Allium sativum L.) was able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus which could be demonstrated by the clear zone diameter of 16.3 mm at a concentration of 35% and at a concentration of 65% the diameter of the clear zone exceeded the clear zone of the amoxycillin antibiotic. Lakor red onion (Allium ascalonicum L.) showed antimicrobial potential but was unable to damage the bacterial cell wall as indicated by the diameter of the clear zone of 7.7 mm at a concentration of 95%. There is potential for both onion bulbs but have different antimicrobial properties against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Most people, especially in rural areas, do not know the dangers of used cooking oil for health when reused. Used cooking oil that is no longer used should not be thrown into the environment because it can cause environmental pollution (soil and water). Used cooking oil can be processed into biodiesel as an alternative fuel, so it can be a source of additional income. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to provide education about the dangers of used cooking oil for human health and the environment, as well as practice how to process used cooking oil into biodiesel for the women of the Al-Hijrah Ta'lim Assembly, Air Ali Hamlet, Negeri Rumah Tiga, Ambon. . The methods used in this PkM activity are lecture, demonstration and practice methods. All participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this PkM activity until the end. After following the education delivered by the lecturers, all participants became aware and aware of the dangers of used cooking oil for health and the environment. The participants were also very happy because they gained knowledge about how to process used cooking oil into biodiesel. This PkM activity has had a very positive impact on the surrounding community in Air Ali Hamlet.

Abstract

Desa Allang Asaude, yang terletak di Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat, merupakan daerah yang kaya akan sumber daya alam, terutama keanekaragaman tumbuhan. Masyarakat setempat telah lama memanfaatkan berbagai jenis tumbuhan untuk kebutuhan sehari-hari, khususnya dalam pengobatan tradisional. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk memberikan informasi dan pengetahuan kepada masyarakat Desa Allang Asaude tentang berbagai tumbuhan yang memiliki khasiat sebagai obat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada hari Sabtu, 11 November 2024. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan langsung kepada masyarakat melalui ceramah dan diskusi interaktif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa materi yang disampaikan sangat bermanfaat dan berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai berbagai tumbuhan obat yang ada di sekitar mereka. Masyarakat kini lebih memahami cara pengolahan yang benar dan cara pemanfaatan tumbuhan untuk mengatasi penyakit ringan, seperti demam, batuk, dan gangguan pencernaan. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya melestarikan tumbuhan obat sebagai bagian dari warisan budaya dan sumber daya alam yang perlu dijaga agar dapat dimanfaatkan oleh generasi mendatang.

Abstract

Trichorderma harzianum is a soil native fungus that is beneficial because it has high antagonistic properties against plant pathogenic fungi. Control mechanisms can be: antibiosis, parasitism, competition and hyphae interference. T. harzianum as a biological control agent for the pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxyforum f. sp. Cubense is an alternative to control this pathogenic fungus, without causing a negative impact on the environment. The aim of the study was to determine whether Trichodernma harzianum isolates Piru, Kairatu and Uraur could suppress the growth of the fungus Fusarium oxyforum f. sp. cubense and Trichorderma harzianum which isolates (Piru isolate, Kairatu isolate and Uraur isolate) had faster inhibition against Fusarium oxyforum f. sp. cubense causes wilt disease on banana kepok (Musa paradisiaca normalis) in vitro with antagonism test. The research was conducted in 2 places, namely in the HPT BPTPH laboratory in Maluku province and continued in the microbiology laboratory at FMIPA Unpatti. The research method used was laboratory experimental in nature by using a completely randomized design with factorial pattern with three treatments and three replications. The results showed that the cause of wilt disease in banana plants was Fusarium oxyforum f. sp. Cubense. Antagonism test in vitro showed that T. harzianum Piru isolate showed the highest inhibition zone (70.87%), both Kairatu isolates (45.27%), and the lowest by Uraur isolate (32.61%) so that it can be said that T. harzianum has the potential to inhibit the growth of Fusarium fungus. oxyforum f. sp. Cubense.

Abstract

Desa Tulehu merupakan salah satu sentra produksi ikan segar dan olahan ikan asap di kota Ambon. Pada tahun 2022, jumlah balita terdampak stunting di desa Tulehu cukup banyak, yaitu 80 anak (e-PPGBM, 2022). Salah satu cara pencegahan stunting dengan mencukupi kebutuhan protein hewani bagi ibu hamil maupun bayi usia 1000 hari pertama kehidupan. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan (ceramah) dan pelatihan (pemutaran video). Evaluasi kegiatan penyuluhan diberikan dalam bentuk pre-test dan post-test, sedangkan evaluasi mutu produk olahan surimi dengan uji kesukaan. Data pre-tes dan post-test dianalisa dengan uji T sampel berpasangan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan peserta sebesar 14,06% setelah mereka mengikuti kegiatan penyuluhan dan pelatihan. Hasil uji kesukaan nilai rasa nugget, bakso dan otak-otak ikan berturut-turut : 23 peserta menyatakan sangat suka, 17 peserta menyatakan suka; 22 peserta menyatakan sangat suka, 18 peserta menyatakan suka; 20 peserta menyatakan sangat suka, 18 peserta menyatakan suka dan 2 peserta menyatakan netral.

Abstract

Kecipir merupakan salah satu tumbuhan yang mengandung beberapa senyawa kimia seperti flavonoid, saponin dan tannin dan kandungan mineral seperti fosfor, dan kalsium dimana golongan senyawa-senyawa kimia tersebut berpotensi sebagai agen fertilitas jantan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi ekstrak etanol daun kecipir dalam menningkatkan bobot testis, konsentrasi dan viabilitas spermatozoa tikus Rattus norvegicus. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL), dengan menggunakan 1 ekor tikus yang dibagi ke dalam 4 kelompok dan masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus. Kelompok pertama adalah kontrol, kelompok kedua adalah pemberian ekstrak etanol daun kecipir dengan dosis 2,52 mg/ekor/hari selama 32 hari, kelompok ketiga adalah pemberian ekstrak etanol daun kecipir dengan dosis 5,04 mg/ekor/hari selama 32 hari dan kelompok keempat adalah pemberian ekstrak etanol daun kecipir dengan dosis 7,56 mg/ekor/hari selama 32 hari. Pengambilan data dilakukan setelah tikus diberi ekstrak etanol daun kecipir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak etanol daun kecipir dapat meningkatkan bobot testis, konsentrasi dan viabilitas spermatozoa tikus dimana dosis efektif yang dapat digunakan adalah dosis 7,56 mg/ekor/hari.

Abstract

Penyimpanan dingin merupakan metode umum dalam pengolahan ikan, namun efektivitasnya tergantung pada teknologi pendukung, termasuk jenis gas dalam kemasan. Penggunaan gas yang tepat dapat menghambat oksidasi, mencegah pertumbuhan mikroorganisme, dan menjaga warna, tekstur, serta cita rasa daging tuna. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan jenis gas terbaik terhadap mutu daging tuna selama penyimpanan dingin. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) 1 faktor dengan 3 kali ulangan. Perlakuan jenis gas yang digunakan adalah tanpa gas (A0), karbon monoksida (A1), filtered smoke (A2), dan gas non-kondensat yang berasal dari tempurung kelapa (A3), kulit batang sagu (A4), dan kayu jambu biji (A5). Sampel tuna loin disemprotkan dengan gas-gas tersebut, kemudian kantong plastik ditutup rapat dan disimpan pada suhu 1-4°C selama 3 hari. Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi pH, total volatile base (TVB), kadar mioglobin, dan angka lempeng total (ALT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan gas CO (A1) secara signifikan menurunkan kadar TVB dan mempertahankan kadar mioglobin tuna loin, serta memperlambat penurunan kualitas dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. Gas non-kondensat dari tempurung kelapa (A3) dan kulit batang sagu (A4) juga memberikan hasil yang cukup baik, namun gas CO terbukti paling efektif dalam mempertahankan kesegaran tuna. Hasil ini menunjukkan potensi penggunaan gas non-kondensat alami sebagai alternatif ramah lingkungan dalam memperpanjang umur simpan produk tuna. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi baru untuk menjaga kualitas daging tuna dalam proses distribusi dan penyimpanan dingin, serta memberi kontribusi terhadap pengembangan teknologi penyimpanan ikan yang lebih berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The use of carbon monoxide gas in handling export-quality tuna loins gas has been prohibited by the FDA due to its residual effects. As an alternative, filtered smoke derived from the combustion of hardwood has been proposed. However, this gas is expensive and primarily produced in Hawaii. During the production of liquid smoke, a non-condensable gas is generated that contains carbon monoxide and may serve to preserve quality, including color and myoglobin content. The aim of this research was to identify the components of non-condensable gas and evaluate its application on tuna loins. A descriptive method was employed, and the data were presented in images and tables. The materials used included sago waste (waa sagu) and tuna loins (Thunnus albacares). Observations involved analyzing the composition of the non-condensable gas from sago waste, as well as changes in color and myoglobin content of tuna loins treated with the gas. The analysis identified 12 components in the non-condensable gas, including nitrogen and carbon monoxide. Tuna loins treated with this gas maintained a red color and a myoglobin content of 49.31±0.70 mg %.
