Abstract

Tahura Sultan Syarif Hasyim is one of the forest region in Riau which can be developed as an ecotourism object. The devolopment of ecotourism needs the integration supply and demand aspects. The object of research was to identify the supply and demand aspects an also to find out the strategy in developing Tahura Sultan Syarif Hasyim. The technique of collecting data used by the researcher was using questionnaire, observation, and literature review. The technique of analyzing data was using scoring analysis, descriptive analysis, and SWOT analysis. The result of this research was Tahura Sultan Syarif Hasyim has the supply aspects which consist of natural resources, facility and infrastructure, accessibility an local society, whereas the demand aspects consist of characteristics, motivation, perception, and expectation of the visitors. Some strategies which can be applied in developing ecotourism for instance through developing the nature tourism by adding the supporting facility and infrastructure, empowering the local society around tahura, promoting Tahura Sultan Syarif Hasyim in various types of advertisement, improving the facility and infrastructure which have existed. Abstract

The sumatran elephants including herbivorous animals that require the availability of sufficient food forage habitat. The sumatran elephants also need vegetated habitat trees for supplementary food to meet the needs of the mineral calcium to strengthen bones, teeth, and tusks. Digestion is not perfect, elephants need food very much is 200-300 kg of biomass per day for each adult elephants or 5-10% of their body weight. Elephants eating behavior is very dominant behaviors performed of Sumatran elephants. The percentage difference eat elephant behavior likely influenced by body weight, gender, age, differences in habitat area, number and type of feed available. The sumatran elephants uses their trunks to pick up food, starting from choosing foods perceived with its trunk up food withdrawn or revoked then cleaned with a wave of food into the body of the elephants when it is completely clean of dirt, the elephant will start to eat the food with his mouth.Type of food usually eaten for at pasture in nature include: young leaves of various herbaceous plants wild roots and liana, young rattan and shoots rattan, bark of tree species at a sampling rate, bamboo shoots and young thorns, grass reed and all parts of wild banana.   Keywords: Behavior, Sumatran elephants, Tesso Nilo National Park

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the types, parts and the pattern of utilization of medicine plants by communities around Sentajo protected forest in Kuantan Singingi Regency. This research was conducted at Sentajo protected forest area in the village of Koto Sentajo Kuantan Singingi Regency Riau Province. It was started from September to October 2016. The sampling method that was used in this research is Purposive Sampling Method. The result of the research showed that there are 89 types of 34 relatives of medicine plants and 39 benefits of plants that were used by communities in the village of Koto Sentajo. There are 63 types of leaves used as traditional medicine. Leaf is the most widely used as a traditional treatment, while the least part is the skin and tubers. The use of medicine plants can be done in the morning, noon, night and early morning depending on the type of illness. Abstract

The strategy already worked in management Forest City Pekanbaru not yet give the maximal result. It can be showed from less developing of the potency in forest city. The strategy should be support coherent management and give the best the result, other ways the strategy can not defined the actor in order to building with effective. The aim of this research to determined the main strategy management of this forest city based on the participation of the all side. The method in this  research use AHP method (Analytical Hierarchy Process). The result of this research showed that the criteria to determined the strategy to building Forest City Pekanbaru based on the partisipation of the people according the goverment is social importance (0,377), society is ecology importance (0,442)and the businessman is social importance (0,377). According all the participation of people finded the priority strategy building city is (1) increase the function of forest city (0,353), (2) sociliaze from government (0,242), (3) facility (0,238) and (4) controlling the activity of society (0,167). Keywords: AHP, The Priority of Building Strategy, Forest City Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Dyera costulata Hook is one of the priority tree species that have a high enough potensial to be developed, because wood of Dyera costulata Hook has a high economic value and its existence is endangered. Based on threat category of population according to the IUCN, species of Dyera costulata Hook included in the category nearly threatened. Arboretum is one type of ex-situ conservation. Ex-situ conservation purpose is to protect and preserve the species, especially the flora and fauna that are rare. Purpose of the implementation of this study was to determine the availability, amount and dominance of Dyera costulata Hook found in the arboretum of Riau University. Techniques of data collection is done by using the census method. The results showed that there are only 3 rods Dyera costulata Hook (0,17 %) whereas 1.789 rods (99,83 %) is a type of non jelutung. INP at a rate of 0 % seedling, sapling rate of 0 %, 1,15 % for poles rate and tree level of 0 %. Keywords : inventore, rare, Dyera costulata Hook, arboretum.

Abstract

Mammals is one of fauna who often have conflict with human and always made loss to both of them.Degradation can increase the possibility of the conflict. Prohibition forest of rumbio customary is one of forest had important mammals and no many data and information about the mammals. This research aimed to know species diversity and distribution of mammal in prohibition forest area of rumbio. This research done at December 2016. Mammals species diversity found 16 species from 10 families. Index species diversity of mammals in each region indicated that is Panoghan (H’=0.95), Sialang Layang (H’=1.64), Koto Naghao (H’=1.95) with mean 1.51. Species richness of mammals in panoghan (R1=3.22), Sialang Layang (R1=2.40), and Koto Kaghao (R1=2.56), and the mean is 2.72. Distribution of mammals at prohibition forest area of rumbio is random. Keywords: Mammals, biodiversity, prohibition forest area of rumbio

Abstract

Orangutan is an endangered species. One of the efforts to prevent the extinction of the orangutan is the ex-situ’s conservation for example zoo. The purpose of this research to determine the daily behavior and the duration of activity of orangutan in habitat at ex-situ in Kasang Kulim’s Zoo and to know the difference of frequency daily activities of orangutan by age class. The research was conducted in the month of August-September 2014. The objects of this research are five orangutan. The research method was descriptive statistics. The type of this research is observation. Based on the research results, the daily behavior of orangutan at Zoo Kasang Kulim consists of: the behavior of eating, the behavior of moving, the behavior of resting, the behavior of social, the behavior of the play itself, and other behaviors (grooming and shitting). Total of activity time orangutans obtained during 25 days of observation is 14 876 minutes. The highest behavior shown in the behavior of the resting (10 216 minutes or 69% of total daily activity orangutan). The frequency of daily behavior based on age class with a long observation period of 10 hours every day. The frequency of the behavior of resting at age class of adults and adolescents the highest frequency are 67 times / day and 71 times / day, while the frequency of the behavior of moving at baby age class the highest frequency that is 116 times / day. Abstract

The existence of the Garden of Eden 100 ecotourism in producing tour benefits intended to achieve an advantage that the management of ecotourism can be done sustainability. In order to the condition of the ownership status of the Garden of Eden 100 held by individual who never made the calculation of costs incurred that are economically not known fee for management of these areas. For that we need to do an analysis of the cost and the benefit of ecotourism Garden of Eden 100.The aimed of this research is to determine the cost of issued, the economical benefit and the advisability of ecotourism business. The results of the research showed that total cost of issued in the  management of ecotourism Garden of Eden 100  in the amount of Rp. 240.740.000,00/year, while total economical benefit from ecotourism in the amount of Rp. 381.670.000,00/year, so that from the benefit it can get advantage in the amount of Rp. 140.930.000,00/year. Analysis of R/C ratio indicates that an ecotourism business deserve economically with a value 1.59.Keywords :ecotourism,ecotourism business, analysis of cost and benefit,the R/C ratio

Abstract

Tourism is a potential sector that being developed in the city of Dumai. Mangrove forest Bandar Bakau Dumai  has a potential to be developed into ecotourism because it has a rich flora and fauna diversity that characterized by many of visitors in these area. Many of visitors in these area fearful could damage the mangrove forest. The aim of these research were to determine the potential of flora mangrove and fauna diversity that can be developed as an ecotourism attraction and analyze the carrying capacity in ecotourism track of mangrove forest Bandar Bakau Dumai. These research was conducted in ecotourism track of mangrove forest Bandar Bakau Dumai used survey method, study literature and interview. The results of these research showed that potential in the form of 14 mangrove species of flora and fauna in the form of 7 species of animals that includes high potential for the development of ecotourism with that value of the carrying capacity was 149  visitors/day.Keywords:   Ecotourism, Potential, Flora, Fauna, Carrying Capacity, Mangrove Forest,   Bandar Bakau Dumai

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of soaking Adenanthera pavonina in various of coconut water concentration to improve the quality of seed germinated and know the best concentration Adenanthera pavoninasoaking in coconut water to maintain the quality of seed germinated. The research method used in completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, 1 control and 3 replications. The treatment consisted  of: K0= saga seeds without soaking coconut water; K1=soakingsaga seeds in 25% coconut water; K2= soaking saga seeds in 50% coconut water; K3= soaking sagaseeds in 75% coconut water; K4= soaking sagaseeds in 100% coconut water. Research has shown that soaking the Adenanthera pavonina seedin 50% coconut water has significant effect tothe high increase of seed germination(10,3cm) and soaking the Adenanthera pavonina seed in coconut water has no significant effect on power of germinated, speed of seed germinated, speed ofseed germination at 80% and percentage of seeds germinated Keywords :Adenanthera pavonina, coconut water, seed quality.
