Abstract

Information about relevant costs is an important thing that companies always need in making the right decisions. One of the main factors in the failure experienced by a company is management errors in making decisions. The aim of this research is to analyse decision making (produce yourself or buy from outside) of the Sari Rasa Jember Souvenir Shop. This type of research is quantitative descriptive. Data collection methods used in this research include interview and observation methods. The analysis method used is relevant cost analysis. The results of the analysis show that companies must make their own semi-finished products because they can provide cost savings which usually increase company profits compared to companies having to buy semi-finished products from other parties. Suggestions to company management are that companies should apply relevant costs in making decisions to make their own or buy semi-finished products in calculating relevant costs.

Abstract

The subsector of performing arts studied in this research is in carnival performance art. The pandemic era has made the performance of all business entities decline, including in the creative industry of the performing arts subsector (Carnival). The research method used is qualitative research, namely by describing and exploring the application of value chains and culture in the creative industry of the carnival performing arts subsector in the Jember region. The data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The study concludes with the identification of the value chain sustainability model event in Jember, comprising five key elements. These elements include creation, production, dissemination, exhibition, and consumption, indicating the presence of a comprehensive value chain within the Jember Regency carnival event. Jember Carnival's one-of-a-kind creative vision woven through the entire elements, from creation to consumption, gives it a major differentiation advantage compared to standardized carnival offerings. The uniqueness provides lasting value and competitive edge. A potential chain that can be used as a source of competitive advantage for the sustainability of the Jember carnival event is to have a different creation from other carnivals.

Abstract

The creative economy in Indonesia is increasingly boosting the national economy, as evidenced by the success of events like the Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC) and Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival (BEC), but industry players still need to utilize blockchain technology in the Internet of Value era to create economic value. Annually held in Jember, East Java, the Jember Fashion Carnival showcases extravagant costumes and parade performances, while the BEC, an ethnic carnival in Banyuwangi, celebrates the cultural diversity of the region through traditional dances and costumes. The purpose of this research is to identify readiness for implementing blockchain technology, identify the strengths of EFAS in the blockchain technology-based carnival creative industry, explore the uniqueness of blockchain technology-based carnival innovative products, and formulate a blockchain technology-oriented strategic plan in the carnival creative industry. This research is exploratory in nature, utilizing analytical methods such as TRA and TAM. The research results indicate that blockchain technology can serve as a valuable alternative tool in the era of the internet, particularly for the carnival industry, which includes events such as BEC and JFC. The community's lack of understanding of blockchain technology and NFTs poses the biggest threat. The carnival industry requires risk mitigation and education to ensure successful implementation. We can carry out this effort by providing assistance to carnival industry players, enabling them to enhance their competitiveness and seize potential external opportunities. The research shows that JFC and BEC are not yet fully ready to adopt blockchain in organizing Carnival events, but there is a strong intention and positive attitude towards implementing blockchain. The successful implementation of blockchain requires technical assistance and the building of human resource capacity.

Abstract

Purpose The aim of this study is to examine how ambidexterity capabilities (exploration and exploitation) and entrepreneurial orientation contribute to competitive advantage in East Java's tourism industry. Methodology/approach: The research was conducted in East Java's tourism sector, involving a survey of 230 tourism managers selected through purposive sampling. The data was analyzed using path analysis with mediation tests and t-tests through SmartPLS to examine the relationships between the study variables. Results/findings: This study found that Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) enhances both exploratory and exploitative ambidexterity, which promotes innovation and efficiency. Although EO directly enhances competitive advantage, its impact varies across the dimensions of ambidexterity. Exploratory ambidexterity weakens the relationship between EO and competitive advantage, while exploitative ambidexterity strengthens it. This suggests that balancing innovation with execution is key to sustaining success in the market. Conclusions: The research concludes that tourism organizations in East Java should focus on developing ambidexterity exploitation capabilities to maximize the benefits of their entrepreneurial orientation for achieving competitive advantage. The balanced management of external challenges proves more crucial than internal resource management in this context. Limitations: A limitation of the study is its focus on East Java's tourism industry and its use of purposive sampling, which may affect the generalizability of findings to other regions or sectors. Contribution: This study contributes to tourism management literature by empirically testing the ambidexterity-competitive advantage relationship in an underexplored context. The findings provide practical insights for tourism managers on strategically allocating resources between exploration and exploitation activities to enhance their competitive position.
