Abstract

This study aims to develop effective, feasible, and valid encyclopedia media on form and function of plant to train fourth-graders’ critical thinking skills in the elementary school. This study was research and development based on Borg and Gall theory and Research (R& D) model. Data were collected using observation, questionnaires, and tests and analyzed using media validity and reliability, student activity, implementation of lesson plans, and tests of critical thinking skills. After that, the media was validated by experts. The results of the expert validation showed that the Encyclopedia media was valid for use. Furthermore, the media was tested on fourth-graders of SDN KERTAJAYA V / 211 Surabaya using One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The limited scale trial results showed (1) the validation of the developed Encyclopedia media were 96% valid categories, (2) the developed media were tested in term of lesson plan implementation were 94% with well-implemented category and student activities were suitable to Discovery Learning model, (3) the effectiveness of the Encyclopedia media in terms of students’ critical thinking skills tests showed that average N-Gain was 0.75 (high) and positive response of 97% was given by students. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Encyclopedia media on Form and Function of Plant is feasible to train Critical Thinking Skills of Elementary School Students.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the correlation between metacognitive skills with students' chemistry learning outcomes. The research method used is descriptive correlational with data collection techniques through observation to measure the implementation of learning models, test to measure the students' achievement and metacognitive skills, and a questionnaire to measure students' Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI). This research used a simple random sampling technique of 31 students from XI MIPA 1. The data analysis technique was the percentage, n-gain, analysis of normality by Shapiro-Wilk, the correlation analysis by Product Moment Pearson and Regression Linear using the IBM SPSS Statistics 21 application. The result showed that 1) the average percentage implementation of the learning models respectively at meetings 1 and 2 was 96.9% and 97.8% respectively with very good category, 2) metacognitive skills trained were conveyed very well, supported by the average MAI that is good and the average of N-Gain percentage of metacognitive skills and students' achievement were categorized in the high category, 3) had a positive correlation with a coefficient correlation value of 0,952 (there is a high relationship between variables), and R square of 0,907, and, 4) the linear formula equation is y = -24,922 + 1,223X.

Abstract

Technological developments must be followed by all lines of education even with limited facilities and infrastructure. Educators need to prepare themselves with technological advances such as in internet-assisted learning so that learning can be interesting and contextual. The occurrence of events that cause face-to-face learning in conventional classes cannot be implemented must be handled wisely and appropriately. This requires appropriate skills, including laboratory activities. If laboratory activities, especially in chemistry subjects, are not carried out at all, they will not achieve the competence of higher order thinking skills (including critical and creative thinking skills) and laboratory activity skills. However, not all chemistry teachers in Sampang Regency, East Java have experience developing experimental worksheets, even though they have experience in developing worksheets that contain a collection of questions. For this reason, training is needed for teachers who will prepare simple experimental worksheets that support distance learning or blended learning. LKPD that helps higher order thinking skills is important to help teachers guide students not only to fulfill laboratory skills but also to prepare students with higher order thinking skills. This is also a demand for the curriculum in Indonesia (K13). The use of tools and materials that are easily found around students in simple chemistry experiments will help students achieve basic competencies. The training will be held online from July to August 2021. The training participants as many as 12 chemistry teachers participated in the training with the final result being the development of a simple experimental chemistry worksheet. All participants responded positively to this training activity and wanted the training activities to be carried out for other topics.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to develop STEM-based chemistry textbooks on reaction rate topic, in order to improve students' problem solving skills. Textbooks are developed using the Research & Development (R&D) scheme with feasibility indicators seen from the validity and effectiveness of textbooks. The developed textbook was then tested using a one group pretest-postest design research, where the research subjects were 30 students of class XI at SMA Wachid Hasyim 1 Surabaya. The research data were obtained from expert validation sheets and student problem solving skills test sheets. Based on the research conducted, it was found that 1) the textbook developed had a validity score of 3.70 and was categorized as very valid, 2) the increase in student problem solving skills classically obtained was 0.75, in the high category, 3) the percentage of completeness a test of student problem solving skills by 90%, so that STEM-based textbooks can be state to be effective in improving students' problem solving skills. Based on these results, it can be conclude that STEM-based textbooks developed feasible to improve students' problem solving skills.

The purpose of this study is to produce contextual teaching and learning-oriented student worksheets that can improve science literacy skills on chemical equilibrium material.  The method used in this research refers to the Borg and Gall development model, but is limited to the product trial stage. This research design uses One Group Pretest Posttest. The feasibility of the student worksheet related to the validity aspect is measured based on the results of the assessment of 3 validators, the practicality aspect is reviewed from the results of the response questionnaire and observation of student activities, while the effectiveness aspect is seen from the N-gain value of the pretest-posttest of science literacy. The results of this study showed that the content validity was 87.88% and construct validity was 90.79% with a very valid category, the practicality value was 96.1% positive response and 94.43% based on student activity, and the average N-gain was 0.8853 in the high category. In conclusion, the contextual teaching and learning oriented student worksheet is valid, practical, and effective to improve students' science literacy on chemical equilibrium material.
