Abstract

The hydroponic system of lettuce cultivation has become popular in the new normal era after the Covid 19 pandemic. So that the efficiency of input and the ease of supplying nutrients in hydroponic farming deserves to be a concern. Hydroponics commonly uses synthetic fertilizers that are completely available and sold commercially. Efforts are needed to make media choices by utilizing easier and cheaper resources, among others by making various alternative nutrient source compositions from widely available, cheap, and commonly used synthetic fertilizers such as NPK and Gandasil. Another option that also needs to be tested for the efficiency of its utilization is the use of liquid organic fertilizers from chicken feather waste. Calculation of the growth rate of lettuce grown on various nutrient compositions of liquid organic and synthetic fertilizers was carried out. The types of fertilizer composition tested were P1= AB-mix (control) 50 ml in 10 liters of water, P2= NPK 10 g + Gandasil 5 g in 10 liters of water, P3= AB-mix 25 ml + 5 g NPK + 2.5 g Gandasil in 10 liters of water, P4= AB-mix 25 ml + 400 ml chicken feather LOF in 10 liters of water, and P5= 5 g NPK + 2.5 g Gandasil + 400 ml chicken feather LOF in 10 liters of water. The results showed that the highest growth rate of lettuce was obtained in the P4 composition, with the best results for Net assimilation rate (NAR), total wet biomass production per plant, ratio of wet weight of shoot: wet weight roots, relative plant height growth rate, relative leaf number growth rate, and relative plant growth rate.

Abstract

Tin-mined land experiences drought, high light intensity, and temperature which is less supportive of plant growth. The study observed the anatomical responses of grasses leaves. This study aims to measure stomatal density, stomatal index, guard cell length, and guard cell width of three grass species that grow naturally in ex tin-mined land and in undisturbed land. Description method carried out based on the paradermal incision resulted in the wholemount method. The results showed each grass species has a different response to their different habitats. The stomatal density of Imperata cylindrica and Paspalum conjugatum collected from ex tin-mined land were higher than to those plants collected from undisturbed land, however the stomatal density in Scleria levis showed the opposite result. Stomatal index of all three species increases in ex tin-mined land were higher than in undistributed land. Guard cell lengths of I. cylindrica and P. conjugatum were smaller than those in undistributed land, but Scleria levis showed the opposite result. Guard cell width of I. cylindrica and S. levis were wider than those in undistributed land, but P. conjugatum showed the opposite result. These responses may reflect their adaptiveness to tin soils.

Abstract

Post tin mining tailings land in Bangka Belitung Islands Province has an area of around 400 000 ha. In terms of area, the land has the potential to be used as cultivated land, one of which is melon. The aims of the study is to see the effect of cow manure fertilizer and drip irrigation water volume on  melon plants growth in post tin mining tailings area. This research was conducted from June to August 2018 in the tailings area of Dewi Makmur Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency. This experimental  used a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial method. The first factor was cow manure with three levels (K1 = 2.5 kg/planting hole; K2 = 5 kg / planting hole; K3 = 7.5 kg / planting hole) and the second factor was drip irrigation volume (A1 = 800 ml; A2 = 1 500 ml). The results showed that giving cow manure and water irrigatian has no significant effect  on melon plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves, but the treatment  7.5 kg of  cow manure and 1 500 ml water gave results that tended to be better.

Abstract

Lead (Pb) contamination and types of nutrients in static hydroponic system for growing water spinach are increasingly being studied due to the impact on the food chain. Consequently, the presence of Pb needs to be considered, specifically in fast-growing plant commodities. Alternative nutrient sources that are cheaper and more easily available should be developed and tested for effectiveness in the Kratky hydroponic system. In general, the Kratky hydroponic system runs without electricity and does not use wicks, making it economical and easy to apply in urban agriculture. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the effect of nutrition type and Pb absorption on the growth of water spinach planted in the Kratky hydroponic system. Test plants were planted for 30 days and the research used a 2-factor factorial randomized block design. The Pb concentration was varied at 50 , 100, 150, and 200 mg/L. The plant without Pb was used as control. The nutrition types used were standard hydrophonic (N1) and alternative nutrients containing NPK and Gandasil D (N2). The results showed that nutrition type had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, root length, wet and dry weight of shoots and roots, leaf area, shoot root ratio, harvest weight and stem diameter. The ABmix nutrient type (standard hydroponic media) has better performance than alternative nutrient types.  There was no growth disturbance due to Pb contamination in the form of PbSO4 . Furthermore, the combination of Pb concentration and nutrient-type treatment did not have a significant effect on the plant’s growth and production except for the number of leaves. The combination of Pb concentration of 50 mg. L-1 and AB mix nutrition provided the best number of leaves.
