Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the role of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on students’ mathematical problem solving ability (MPSA) and disposition (MD). The study is a pre-test post-test experimental control group design, that involved 40 tenth grade students of a Madrasah Aliyah (MA) in Bandung, that were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The instrumens used in this study consisted a mathematical problem solving test (4 essays) and a mathematical disposition scale (26 statements). The study found that on MPSA, its normalized Gain and on MD, students getting treatment with CTL attained better grades than grades of students taught by conventional teaching. Even though both students’ grades on MPSA were still at a very low level, but on MD, first group students’ grade on MD was at a medium level and the second group students’ grade was at a low level. Many students still experiencing difficulties on compiling MPSA. The other findings, there was no association between MPSA and MD, but students performed good perception toward CTL approach.

Abstract

This study is a quasi-experimental research, which aims to examine the achievement and improvement of problem-solving skills of mathematics and the independence of junior high school students learning through a realistic approach. The population in this study is all students of class VIII SMPN 4 Subang. Samples were taken by random class, obtained two classes of class VIII H as the experimental class and VIII.F as control class. The instrument in this study is a set of mathematical problem-solving test and a set of learning independence scales. The study found that the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving ability and the independence of student learning whose learning using realistic learning are better than that of learning using ordinary learning in terms of the initial ability level of students. There is an interaction of mathematical problem-solving abilities between students whose learning uses a realistic approach with a student's initial ability level. Meanwhile, there is no interaction between realistic learning with the level of initial ability of students in generating student self-reliance. Besides, there is no association between mathematical problem solving ability and student learning independence, both in class that use realistic and classroom learning using ordinary learning. The picture of student's performance during realistic learning is more active, it shows the involvement of students both individually and in collaboration with the group, so that it can improve the problem solving ability of mathematics as well as student's learning independence. The description of the students' difficulties in solving the problem of mathematical problem solving ability lies in the indicator about number 5 which is about making the mathematical model because of the lowest percentage indicator.

Abstract

This research aims to elucidate how the relations between the ability of mathematical creative thinking with the learning interest of students in learning using the method of discovery learning through reciprocal teaching approach. The methods used in this research is a method of experimentation with the design of the control group pretes postes. The population in this research is the entire SMAN in Cimahi City, whereas samples randomly taken class. Class XI IPA 1 was selected as experiments class and Class XI IPA 2 was selected as the class of the control. Experiments Class given learning method using discovery learning through reciprocal teaching approach while the control classes are given convensional learning. Research results showed the existence of a significant relationship between the ability of mathematical creative thinking and learning interest of students in learning mathematics.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the problem of the low abilities of elementary students to understand mathematical understanding and self-regulated learning (SRL). The purpose of this study was to examine the mathematical understanding ability and SRL of elementary school students who received learning using the Snowball Throwing approach. The research method is a quasi-experimental with the population of all students in private elementary schools in Karawang district. The sample subjects were two classes of fourth grade elementary school students in Karawang, totaling 44 students. The first class with 22 students receive the snowball throwing learning approach and the other 22 students receive regular learning. The instrument used in this research were a test of the mathematical understanding ability on the flat shape material, that consist of 5 essay questions and a self-regulated learning scale that consist of 30 statements. The results showed that the enhancement in the mathematical understanding ability of elementary school students who received learning with the snowball throwing approach was better than the reguler learning, while for Self-Regulated Learning students who received learning using the snowball throwing approach there was no significant difference with students who received regular learning. In addition, there is no correlation between mathematical understanding abilities and students' self-regulated learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the achievement and improvement of the ability of mathematical connections and confidence of students through problem-based learning model. The population in this study is all students of 7th grade from one of SMP Negeri in Bandung. Samples were taken at random class. Among the eleven classes, two classes were selected as an experimental class (VII-K) and a control class (VII-B). The research instruments consist of a test instruments (math connection ability) and a non-test instruments. The instrument in the form of test is a set of test questions to measure students' mathematical connection ability. While non-test instruments in the form of a scale of students' self-confidence, and the scale of student opinions on problem-based learning. Research shows that the achievement and improvement of the ability of mathematical connections and confidence of students whose learning using problem-based learning model there is a difference with the learning using ordinary learning in terms of the initial ability level of students. There is no interaction between the problem-based learning model and the student's initial ability level to generate mathematical connections and students' self-confidence. In addition there is a correlation between the ability of mathematical connections and students' self confidence in the classroom that uses the problem-based learning model as well as in the classroom using ordinary learning.

Abstract

This study is a pretest-postest experiment control group design having a goal to analyze the role of scientific approach on mathematical critical thinking ability and disposition. The study involved 70 eleventh grade of vocational high school students, a test on mathematical critical thinking, a disposition scale, and a scale of students’ perception on scientific approach. The study revealed that students getting treatment on scientific approach attained better grades on mathematical critical thinking ability and disposition than that of students taught by expository teaching, though the mathematical critical thinking ability grades were at medium level and the grades of disposition were at fairly good level. Besides that, students performed positive opinions toward scientific approach and there was association between mathematical critical  thinking ability and disposition.

Abstract

The purpose of this service is to increase teacher competency in learning in Madrasah Aliyah through lesson study. The Dedication Method used is qualitative descriptive. This dedication took place in Madrasah Aliyah Assa'idiyyah Cipanas Cianjur Regency 2019-2020 Academic Year. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire to determine student responses to learning using Lesson Study and. The results of the study show that Lesson Study can increase students' learning activities and can improve teacher competency in learning.

Abstract

Mathematics has an important role in life. But in the practice of learning mathematics, some students still have the assumption that mathematics is difficult. Some evidence in the field shows that learning outcomes on SPLDV material are still low. The purpose of the study was to analyze the learning difficulties of students, class VIII at SMPN 4 Pangalengan, in solving questions on the SPLDV material, a qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study, the subjects of this study were 10 students of class VIII-D SMPN 4 Pangalengan. The test instrument used was the SPLDV description test with 3 questions, then the students' difficulties were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. Data collection techniques using the test method. The analysis steps include data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results showed that students' difficulties in learning SPLDV were difficulty understanding the concept of SPLDV, then changing story questions into mathematical form, and using methods in determining the SPLDV completion set and difficulties understanding supporting material.

Abstract

Mathematics is an important science possessed by every individual. One of the mathematical skills that must be possessed by students is the ability of understanding and independence of mathematical learning. This ability must be mastered by each student. But in fact, the level of students' mathematical understanding ability is still relatively low as well as with the independence of mathematical learning. So in this case required a solution in the learning of learning by using a contextual approach. The method used is quasi eksrimen with the sample selection is not random. The results of this study, indicate that the achievement and improvement of the ability of mathematical understanding using a contextual approach. Seen from the analysis of data obtained from both classes. However, to achieve the independence of mathematical learning is still not achieved well due to student conditions and time of execution that has not been maximized.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah peningkatan dan pencapaian kemampuan pemahaman matematik (KPM) yang lebih baik antara mahasiswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) dan pembelajaran konvensional (PK), ditinjau dari keseluruhan dan kategori kemampuan awal matematika (KAM) mahasiswa (tinggi, sedang, rendah). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen dengan desain penelitian kelompok kontrol pretes-postes. Subjek penelitian melibatkan 73 orang mahasiswa. Intrumen yang digunakan seperangkat tes uraian KPM. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan anova dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa ditinjau dari keseluruhan terdapat perbedaan peningkatan KPM yang signifikan antara mahasiswa yang belajar dengan PBM dan PK serta tidak terdapat perbedaan peningkatan KPM yang signifikan antara mahasiswa yang belajar dengan PBM dan PK ditinjau dari KAM mahasiswa.
