Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the interaction between the type of rice straw processing and the concentration of teak leaf flour supplementation on energy intake and performance of Madura cattle. A total of 18 Madura cattle with an average weight of 246.5 ± 10.29 kg were placed in individual pens and randomly assigned to either ammoniated or non-ammoniated rice straw processing and concentrate with different supplementations of teak leaf flour (TLF): 0% (T1), 0.21% (T2), and 0.42% (T3) of dry matter. This study used a completely randomized design with a 2 x 3 factorial and Tukey's range test or orthogonal polynomials. The observed variables were dry matter intake (DMI), energy intake (EI), digested energy (DE), retained energy (RE), RE:EI efficiency, RE:DE efficiency, average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion (FC), and slaughter weight. The results showed no interaction between the type of rice straw and the concentration of TLF on all variables (p > 0.05). The type of rice straw processing did not significantly affect all variables (p > 0.05). TLF supplementation had a quadratic effect on EI, DMI, and slaughter weight. Madura cattle fattening fed with either ammoniated or non-ammoniated rice straw combined with concentrate supplemented with TLF resulted in an increase in feed intake and final body weight.

Abstract

Background. The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of Pandan Wangi rice straw varieties resulting from organic and inorganic fertilizers to produce rumen fermentation products in the form of Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) and ammonia nitrogen (N-NH3). Materials and methods. The material used in this study was rumen fluid from 3 beef cattle taken from the Bantarwuni Slaughterhouse, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency immediately after the cows were slaughtered. The samples tested came from 2 fields, namely land A using organic fertilizers and land B using inorganic fertilizers. Samples were taken as many as 20 points in one rice field at random, then the samples were dried using an oven. The method in this study was an invitro experiment with the research design used was the independent T test. Results. The results showed that there was no difference (P> 0.05) on the production of VFA and N-NH3 in Pandan Wangi rice straw varieties resulting from organic and inorganic fertilizers. Conclusion. Rumen fermentation products in the form of VFA and N-NH3 fed with Pandan Wangi rice straw did not depend on the type of fertilization.

Abstract

Background. Research "Supplementation of RDP (Rumen Degradable Protein) and UDP (Undegradable Protein) in Sheep Ration on In Vitro Degradation of Dry Matter and Organic Matter in Rumen". This study aims was determine the effect of RDP and UDP supplementation in sheep rations on dry matter degradation and in vitro organic matter degradation. Materials and methods The research material used were the rumen fluid of 3 sheep as a source of inoculum, treatment rations supplemented with RDP (urea-zeolite) and UDP (soybean meal protected by condensation tannins). The in vitro research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments tested were R1 = basal ration (30% elephant grass silage, 70% concentrate) + 1% RDP and 1% UDP; R2 = basal ration + RDP 1% and UDP 2% ; R3 = basal ration + RDP 1% and UDP 3% ; R4 = basal ration + RDP 2% and UDP 1% ; R5 = basal ration + RDP 3% and UDP 1%. The variables measured were dry matter degradation and organic matter degradation at 48 hours incubation. Results. The results showed that supplementation of RDP and UDP in sheep rations had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the value of dry matter and organic matter degradation. Conclusion. It can be concluded that the administration of RDP and UDP supplementation in sheep rations in vitro did not interfere with rumen microbial activity

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Complete Rumen Modifier (CRM) administration on dry matter consumption and digestibility of male Bali cattle feed and to provide a solution to prevent acidosis in cattle. The material used was 3 male Bali cattle aged 24 months with an average body weight of 209 kg. The research design used RBSL 3x3, the treatments tested were P1 (rice straw + 2% concentrate of body weight), P2 (P1 + CRM 0.5% from DM concentrate), and P3 (P1 + CRM 1% from DM concentrate). The variables measured were consumption and digestibility of dry matter (BK), the data obtained was tested using analysis of variance and the Orthogonal Polynomial test. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the treated feed had a significant effect (P<0.05) on consumption and dry matter digestibility (BK). The Orthogonal Polynomial test shows that the higher the administration of CRM up to 1% level, the consumption and digestibility of dry matter increases linearly respectively with the equation y = 4,41x + 63,10 with r2=0,50 dan y = 5,79x + 70,43 with r2=0,84. The conclusion obtained is that the provision of concentrate feed with the addition of CRM up to 1% level can increase consumption and digestibility of BK.
