Abstract

Vitamin C is one of the nutrients that act as antioxidants derived from fruits and green vegetables, such as the broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.). This study aims to warming influence on levels of vitamin C in broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.) with qualitative and quantitative analysis. Qualitative analysis was performed using specific reagents that ammonium molybdate, Fehling Fehling's A and B which have indicated a positive sample containing vitamin C, and vitamin C were analyzed quantitatively using UV- Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 570 nm. The results showed levels of vitamin C in raw broccoli 0.62915 mg/g and steamed broccoli 0.45449 mg/g.

Abstract

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common sex-related malignancy and the second most common cause of mortality after lung cancer for men. Around 61.8% of Indonesian people undergo cancer treatment with surgery. This study aimed to figure out the use of radiolabeled peptides for diagnosis, therapy, and theranostics of prostate cancer. This study performed a literature review by searching the web databases such as PubMed, MDPI, Elsevier (Science Direct), and ACS Publications. The result showed that peptide compounds such RM2, VCN (Vicrostatin), DB15, and BBN7-14 were utilized as radionuclide-carriers for diagnostic imaging, meanwhile, peptides such as NeoBOMB1, PSMA-617, and [RGD-Glu-[DO3A]-6-Ahx-RM2] containing alpha or beta-emitted radionuclide were used as therapeutic and theranostic agents. They were tagged using 68Ga, 161Tb, 177Lu, 64Cu, 124I, 99mTc, 90Y, and 86Y radionuclides. Great efforts have been conducted in developing peptide-based radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and therapy of prostate cancer. Research groups focusing in nuclear medicine will continue to develop radiopharmaceuticals in the future, especially radiopeptide compounds for the diagnosis and therapy of prostate cancer.

Abstract

Polyphenols are a class of chemical compounds most commonly found in plants, these compounds have many health benefits associated with the character it has. The antioxidant activity of natural materials connected by polyphenol content, which can counteract free radicals. Objective: This study aims to determine the levels of total phenolic and flavonoid in crude extracts and purified extracts of the green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). Methods: Determination of total phenolic content was using standard gallic acid by the Folin-Ciocalteau method. Total flavonoid assay using standard reference of quercetin by Chang method. Instrument used to measure the absorbance of the reaction is a UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Results: The results obtained after the measurement indicates that the sample of crude extract and purified extract of tea leaves containing total phenolic levels 40.5 and 43.9 mgGAE/g, respectively, while the levels of total flavonoids contained respectively by 2.77 and 3.14 mgQE/g. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the green tea leaves have a total phenolic content is greater than the total flavonoid content, thus it has great potential as an antioxidant

Abstract

This study is aimed at testing the antibacterial activity of the compound Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate leaves fraction of Colocacia esculenta L against enteric gram negative bacteria. The search for bioactive compounds employs the vacuum liquid chromatography method used for fractionation and purification, spectroscopic analysis (infrared, proton and carbon core magnetic resonance, chromatography-mass spectroscopy) gas, Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), Agar diffusion and TLC-Bioautography for activity testing against Enteric Gram Negative Bacteria. The results of the fractionation shows that based on agar diffusion, the B fraction obtains the MIC value is 0.1%, and MBC value is 1%. Spectroscopic analysis of the secondary metabolites of the leaves fraction of Colocacia esculenta L obtains the chemical structure of Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate with the molecular formula C24H38O4 and molecular weight 390.5. The test on the compound Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate from the leaves fraction of Colocacia esculenta L L by TLC-Bio autography obtains an active Rf value of 0.7 against bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella thypi, Streptococcus mutans, and Vibrio cholerae, by diffusion Agar method, the largest inhibition zone in Salmonella thypi bacteria. Based on the results, the identification of secondary metabolites from the leaves fraction of Colocacia esculenta L obtains the chemical compound Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate and based on the results of the antibacterial activity test of the chemical compound Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate leaves of Colocacia Esculenta L is potential for the treatment of enteric gram negative bacteria infections. Keywords: Colocacia esculenta L, Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate, Antibacterial

Abstract

Vitamin C is a nutrient that the body needs in order to increase its metabolism. This helps the body to create collagen and also act as an antioxidant. This study aims to analyze of vitamin C and the antioxidant activity of Capsicum frutescens L. and Capsicum annuum L. (curly and large chili variety), obtained from the Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The study was carried out experimentally using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. The measurement of vitamin C was carried out at a wavelength of 265.667 nm while for the antioxidant activity test the maximum wavelength of DPPH was 515.961 nm. Vitamin C levels obtained in Capsicum frutescens L. and Capsicum annuum L. (curly and large chili variety), were 0.926; 0.344 and 0.281 % w/w. For antioxidant activity, the results of Capsicum frutescens L. and Capsicum annuum L. (curly and large chili variety), were 2.202; 2,260; and 2.751 ppm while the comparator vitamin C was 12.360 ppm. These results indicate that Capsicum frutescens L. has higher levels of vitamin C than Capsicum annuum L. (curly and large chili variety), while for the antioxidant activity test, the IC50 value of Capsicum frutescens L. and Capsicum annuum L. (curly and large chili variety) had less antioxidant activity than a comparison vitamin C, which means that they have strong antioxidant activity.
