Abstract

Mathematics is essential as it forms the foundation for sciences applied in the real world. Students' success in learning mathematics is crucial and must be prioritized. To understand and excel in mathematics, diligent study is required. Students who study diligently are often motivated by external factors such as outcomes, targets, environment, and teachers. Enthusiasm serves as the driving force that fosters the desire to learn effectively. Thus, motivation is a critical and consistent factor that encourages students to study diligently, ultimately improving their mathematics learning outcomes. This study examines the influence of school origin, national exams (UN), and tutoring on students' motivation to learn mathematics. The research involves a preliminary study, data collection, and analysis using a decision tree with the help of the Orange application. The results indicate that high motivation levels are more common among students attending public schools and those influenced by the presence of national exams. The findings of this study should be utilized by the government to enhance students' learning motivation and significantly improve mathematics learning outcomes. The study suggests targeted actions, including equitable resource allocation, alternative evaluation systems, teacher training, and enhanced counseling services, to effectively boost students' learning motivation and improve the overall quality of education. This research contributes by providing empirical evidence on the factors influencing students' motivation to learn mathematics, offering insights that can inform policies and interventions aimed at fostering a more effective and engaging learning environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Educational games hold substantial potential to create enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences for students. In today’s educational landscape, one of the main challenges is maintaining students’ interest and motivation, especially amid the rapid advancement of technology and the pervasive influence of digital entertainment. By integrating interactive and engaging elements, educational games can foster learning environments that are both motivating and enjoyable. This study aimed to demonstrate that the computational educational game Math Squirrel is a valid, practical, and effective learning medium for enhancing the learning motivation of sixth-grade elementary school students in mathematics. Developed using the Unity engine and based on the 4D development model, the game underwent validation by subject matter and media experts, yielding average scores of 94.44% and 83.92%, respectively—indicating a high level of feasibility. A trial involving 30 students at SDN 1 Cipocok Jaya resulted in a positive response rate of 87.08%. During gameplay-based learning sessions, students appeared highly engaged, enthusiastic, and actively involved in solving problems embedded in the game. The interactive challenges, colorful visuals, and immediate feedback contributed to a fun and stimulating learning atmosphere. This study concluded that Math Squirrel computational educational game is a valid, practical, and effective tool for increasing the learning motivation of sixth-grade elementary students in mathematics. These findings suggest that Math Squirrel not only enhances learning motivation but also provides an engaging and joyful educational experience, making it a highly feasible and innovative tool for improving student motivation in elementary mathematics instruction. Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to uncover the characteristics of Indonesian students' mathematical literacy, the challenges they face in solving mathematical problems, and to propose effective solutions, including technology-enhanced interventions, for improvement. Methodology: This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach to explore students’ experiences in mathematical literacy. Data were collected through AKM-based algebra tasks, interviews, and observations involving three purposively selected middle school students. Method triangulation ensured validity, while digital tools, including audio recording and NVivo software, supported systematic qualitative data coding and analysis. Main Findings: The findings indicate that students’ incorrect answers often arise from difficulties in identifying key problem elements. This misidentification triggers cascading errors across subsequent problem-solving steps, creating a domino effect. Analysis revealed distinct patterns in communication, mathematization, representation, problem-solving strategies, symbolic operations, and reasoning. These patterned error trajectories align well with digital logging, automated analysis, and real-time feedback, enabling direct application in designing digital assessment platforms, intelligent tutoring systems, and learning analytics dashboards to diagnose learning breakdowns. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study uniquely bridges qualitative phenomenological analysis with concrete technological design, systematically translating error patterns into detection algorithms, scaffolding rules, and dashboard specifications. Unlike prior research that either describes difficulties or proposes technology, we explicitly operationalize how intelligent systems can detect and respond to cascading error patterns in real time. The result is a contextually grounded framework for AKM-aligned technology implementation tailored to Indonesian educational realities, including infrastructure constraints and teacher capacity.
