Abstract

This research examines the topic of al- Tasāmuh in the Quran and Sunnah and how it aligns with the meaning declared in 1995. It is evident that there is a difference in meaning between the two. Those who deny al- Tasāmuh in Islam rely on a different concept that seeks to separate from religious and cultural identity and rely on secularism. This research shows that the scope of tolerance is wide in Islam, which gives Muslims and non-Muslims the right to coexist in safety. It is connected with what a person has the right to be tolerant in. As for Allah's rights, they do not fall under this right. Moreover, freedom has limits to prevent self-harm or harming others. Islam does not impose religion on people, but focuses on dialogue and persuasion. To promote positive tolerance, emphasis should be placed on teaching future generations how to interact with others, and laws should protect the rights of all without tolerance for disrespect for religious sanctities or the spread of deviant behavior. Keyword: Al-Tasāmuh; Tolerance; Quran and Sunnah; Islamophobia. Abstract

The existence of Quranic exegesis journalism is a relatively interesting phenomenon. As media content, the field of tafsir is likely to adapt to media routine practices, social systems, and social institution forces wherein the media is produced. In the period 1970-1980, Indonesia’s economic planning and political system had been deeply committed to developmentalist and modernist in orientation, and required social forces, including media and religious institutions, to promote this national goal. This study aims to explore the influence of journalistic practices in shaping the tafsir of the Quran in three magazines in Indonesia published from 1970 to 1980, namely Ashri Magazine, Panji Masyarakat, and Suara Muhammadiyah. The result of the study illustrates that the tafsir of the Quran within observed Islamic magazines adapted to the logic of journalism. Over the course of the period, Islamic magazines carried out Quranic exegesis journalism by defining issues and discourses of developmentalism and modernity as part of policy and public agendas in order to gain legitimacy from the Indonesian Muslim community. Additionally, this study argues that the journalism of tic Quranic interpretation is one of the study fields of the tafsir of the Quran in Indonesia which is relatively unexplored throughout the ages.

Abstract

Classical and contemporary interpreters have different insights into the interpretation of the Quran, especially on gender issues. As a contemporary interpreter, Al-Shanqiti's interpretation is unique in involving periodizations and complex social settings. This article aims to examine the interpretation of the Qur'an al-Shanqiti in its Tafseer adwa' al-Bayan. Al-Shanqity's interpretation is studied with the type of literature research through al-Shanqiti's interpretation data, especially related to gender issues which are briefly compared with other contemporary gender interpretations. This article uses a descriptive-content analysis method with primary research data, namely: Tafsir Adwa' al Bayan. The article finds that, as a contemporary scholar, al-Shanqity directed his interpretation to classical insights because of its orientation that adapted to the social setting in which he lived. These results conclude a more general conclusion that if the social orientation of the interpreter refers tovm the classical context, then the resulting interpretation also has classical nuances even though he lives in the contemporary era. So it can be understood that interpretation is a representation of the orientation and social setting of the interpreter. This article explains further research about the different interpretations of the Qur'an so that it becomes a basis for identifying cross-epoch interpretation products with their respective characters, orientations, and social settings.

Abstract

For the past century, bid’ah (in English know as religious innovation) has been a fundamental sociological problem in modern Muslim life. Regarding this aspect, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Salafi group in Indonesia used a different method to evaluate bid’ah in the rules of Islamic practices. Therefore, this research aimed to illustrate the dynamics of Salafi understanding of bid’ah in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data collected were acquired digitally from the YouTube platforms of the following Salafi figures Syafiq Riza Basalamah, and Firanda Andirja as well as written documents, uploaded websites, such as rumaysho.com by Muhammad Abduh Tuasikal, almanhaj.or.id by Yazid bin 'Abdul Qadir Jawas, and others. The result showed that Salafi provided new innovations in religious practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. This showed the inconsistency associated with Salafi teachings in bid’ah because it shifted from the Qur’an and Hadith. The inconsistency was carried out by quoting the Qur’an and Hadith from the Ashalah (puritanism) and the maslahah (public interest). This was aimed at selecting legal propositions to the conditions of the thaun (plague). In conclusion, the inconsistency of Salafi by accepting bid’ah (new innovations) to gain Covid-19 survival is proof of the acceptability of Salafi fiqh to social change.

Abstract

This study examines the status of reason in Islam through the Quran and Sunnah, highlighting its pivotal contribution to development of knowledge, scientific progress, and innovation. The research aims to emphasize the esteemed status of reason in Islam while outlining its proper boundaries to avoid its misuse in matters beyond its scope, such as the unseen and miracles. It also seeks to clarify the levels of reasoning and their distinctions to prevent individuals from falling victim to superstition or blind imitation. The study addresses the misconception propagated by Islam's detractors, who claim that the faith does not value intellect, posing questions about the extent to which reason can be employed, the necessary conditions for its use, and whether there is harmony or conflict between reason and revelation. The research employs an analytical methodology, examining the Quran and Sunnah to demonstrate the role and regulations of reason in Islam. Findings reveal that Islam elevates reason, defining its fields of application and encouraging its use to explore universal laws for the purpose of civilizational development and collective advancement of knowledge and human dignity. Furthermore, the study confirms that Islam promotes critical thinking to enhance societal thought, with the history of Muslim contributions to knowledge contradicting the distorted image spread by adversaries. It asserts that Muslims were once global leaders in intellectual and scientific domains.

Abstract

Human trafficking remains a significant human rights issue in Indonesia, despite the nation’s comprehensive legal framework aimed at preventing crime and upholding justice. This pervasive problem predominantly targets women and children, exploiting their vulnerability through forced labor, sexual exploitation, and slavery. The increasing prevalence of human trafficking highlights gaps in law enforcement, insufficient government commitment, and limited societal awareness, making it urgent to strengthen preventive measures and legal implementation. This study seeks to analyze the challenges in combating human trafficking while exploring strategies to enhance law enforcement and public participation. Employing a qualitative approach, the research utilizes library-based methods with data collected through document analysis, focusing on Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Human Trafficking. The findings reveal significant shortcomings in legal enforcement due to inadequate budget allocation, poor coordination among stakeholders, and the lack of robust community education. Despite the legal framework’s potential, the government’s efforts in ensuring security, developing infrastructure, and addressing societal awareness remain insufficient. The study emphasizes the need for harmonized regulations, increased resource allocation, and cultural and gender-sensitive approaches to strengthen protection and rehabilitation initiatives. By fostering public awareness, regular program evaluation, and collaborative reforms, Indonesia can address the systemic challenges and adopt a holistic strategy to combat human trafficking effectively, ensuring justice for victims and preventing further exploitation.
