Abstract

Cholesterol is a natural substance with fat-like physical properties that has a steroid group. The increase in cholesterol causes deposition in the walls of blood vessels which can cause narrowing and hardening of the arteries or atherosclerosis which can increase the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). Flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, and tannins in bougainvillea leaves are thought to reduce total cholesterol levels. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of bougainvillea leaf ethanol extract (Bougainvillea spectabilis) to decrease the total cholesterol level of mice (Mus musculus) induced by high-fat diet for 21 days. This study true experimental using 25 male mice (Mus musculus) divided into 5 groups.. In the dose I, II, III treatment group were given bougainvillea leaf ethanol extract with doses of 40 mg/kgBW, 80 mg/kgBB and 160 mg/kgBB, negative controls were given CMC-Na and positive controls were given simvastatin. Giving is done orally for 14 days. The results of the study were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA analysis test and the results obtained p=0,000. Furthermore, the Post Hoc Tukey test was carried out, the results of which were not significantly different between positive controls and dose III. So, the effective dose of ethanol extract of bougenvillea leaves in decreasing total cholesterol levels in mice is dosis III (160 mg/kgBB).

Abstract

ABSTRACT Diarrhea is a disease characterized by stimulation of bowel movements continuously and feces that are not formed or liquid that has a frequency of more than 3 times in 24 hours. The incidence of diarrhea can occur throughout the world and causes 4% of all deaths and 5% of health losses to cause disability. Cyperus rotundus L. can be used as an antidiarrheal drug because it contains a compound such as tannins and flavonoids. This research is an experimental study with a Post-test only Control Group Design. The subjects using white male mice (Mus muscullus) 25 mice and divided into 5 groups: positive control, negative control, ethanol extracts of rubers Cyperus rotundus L. with a dose of 250 mg/kgBB, 500 mg/kgBB and 1000 mg/kgBB. Before the treatment, mice fasted and induced diarrhea (oleum ricini). Obsevations was made by observing the parameters of diarrhea: duration of diarrhea, frequency of diarrhea and feces consistency every 30 minutes for 4 hours. The numerical data was then processed using SPSS with one way ANOVA test. The results obtained showed that the administration of extract with a dose of 250 mg/kgBB, 500 mg/kgBB and 1000 mg/kgBB had an antidarrheal with effective dose is 500 mg/kgBB. Keywords: antidiarrheal, ethanol extract of tubers Cyperus rotundus L., oleum ricini, Cyperus rotundus

Abstract

Diarrhea is a condition in which a person defecates with a soft or runny consistency, it can even be water alone and the frequency is more frequent (usually three or more times) in one day. One of the beneficial plants is the Moringa oleifera Lam. Plant. Flavonoids, tannins and steroids in Moringa leaves are thought to be anti-diarrhea. This study aims to determine the antidiarrheal activity of the ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. Leaves against male white mice (Mus musculus) induced by Oleum ricini. Observations were made for 3 hours. This research is an experimental study divided into 6 groups, namely the normal group, positive control (Loperamid HCl), negative control (Na CMC), and ethanol extract of moringa leaves at a dose of 200 mg / KgBB, 400 Mg / KgBB and 800 mg / KgBB. Numeric data were processed using SPSS with One Way ANOVA test. The results showed that the optimal dose was 200 mg / KgBW in the ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. Leaves as an antidiarrheal in male white mice (Mus musculus) induced by Oleum ricini.

Abstract

Carrots are a type of tuber vegetable that is rich in antioxidant compounds, including vitamin C and beta carotene. One of the functions of antioxidants is to protect pancreatic beta cells from free radical attacks and is also a vasodilator in preventing cardiovascular disorders Damage to pancreatic beta cells can result in high blood glucose levels. Carrots have a taste are not pleasant to consume, so they are made in stick form, which is a snack that is easy to consume every day with a delicious taste and is effective in controlling blood glucose levels. The aim of this activity is to increase the knowledge, skills of PKK’s mother in Temulus about the benefits of carrots and how to process them into healthy sticks so they are delicious to consume. The methods used are descriptive, explanation, discussion and practice. The result of this activity was an increase in knowledge from the good category of 10% (3 people) to 46.67% (14 people) with a total of 30 participants. The conclusion of this activity is the increasing knowledge of PKK mothers in Temulus about the benefits of carrots as controlling blood glucose levels and increasing the skills of PKK mothers in Temulas in processing carrots into healthy sticks to control blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Improper storage and disposal of medications at home can reduce drug quality, pose risks of poisoning, and contribute to environmental pollution. However, public knowledge remains low, as only 16.1% of respondents demonstrated good understanding of proper storage, and 52.6% lacked awareness of safe disposal methods. Education is considered a key factor in improving health literacy related to medication management. This study aimed to examine the relationship between educational level and knowledge of medication storage and disposal among outpatients at RSI Sunan Kudus. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach, involving 392 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman Rank correlation. The majority of respondents were female (71.4%), aged 26–45 years (47.2%), had a senior high school/vocational education (53.8%), and were employed in the private sector (56.9%). Most respondents had moderate knowledge regarding storage (55.4%) and disposal (44.6%) of medications. A significant relationship was found between education level and knowledge of both storage (r = 0.532; p < 0.001) and disposal (r = 0.610; p < 0.001). More intensive education by pharmaceutical staff is recommended.

Abstract

The rainy season in Sukorejo Village, Semarang City, increases mosquito populations due to stagnant water, potentially transmitting diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and chikungunya. The community still relies on chemical-based mosquito repellent lotions containing DEET, which carry risks of skin irritation, allergies, and potential toxicity. Natural ingredients such as lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) and pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) contain active compounds—citronellal, geraniol, alkaloids, flavonoids, and polyphenols—that are effective as natural repellents. The purpose of this activity is to enhance the knowledge and skills of PKK women in utilizing lemongrass and pandan leaves for the production of safe, effective, and environmentally friendly herbal mosquito repellent lotion. The program was implemented in four stages: (1) health education on mosquito-borne diseases and active plant compounds, (2) training on herbal lotion production covering raw material selection, hygienic processing, formulation, and packaging, and (3) production assistance by the community service team. Methods included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. The program improved participants’ understanding of natural repellents and their ability to independently produce herbal lotion. The lemongrass–pandan lotion produced met safety standards, had a pleasant aroma, and was effective in protecting against mosquito bites. This training effectively increased the capacity of PKK members, reduced dependency on commercial chemical-based products, and opened opportunities for local, small-scale businesses.
