Abstract

The hematocrit value test serves as a parameter to help reach an established diagnosis. A centrifuge is an equipment that is used to separate the components of blood from each other based on the properties of each constituent substance. This study aims to developing hand-powered centrifuge made from cotton material to assess the hematocrit of blood in pregnant and non-pregnant ewes. To make the Katunfuge, two circles were cut from a piece of cotton cloth that had been impregnated with batik wax. The knitting thread was inserted into the middle part of the cotton disc and each end rope was tied to the handler. The centrifugal speed resulted from Katunfuge was greater than 2,000 rpm, meaning that it is 99% effective for separating blood components in 15 minutes with 14 times of pulling with hands. The hematocrit values of pregnant ewes (33.0 ± 4.1) were lower than those of non-pregnant ewes (38.5 ± 3.4%). This has proven that Katunfuge is highly potential to be used to assess the hematocrit of other animals.

Abstract

The study was carried out to observe the effect of ethanolic extract of estrogenic purwoceng given 13-21 days age of pregnancy on reproductive performance such as the weight of ovarium, uterus, placenta, andpups, correlation ratio of corpus luteum number, implantation site number, and litter size in rats. Thepregnant rats were divided in to two groups. One groups cosisted of rats treated with purwoceng (83.33 mg/kg body weight) and the other groups was used as control (no treatment). The ovary, uterus, placenta, andpups were collected and weighed on day 21 of pregnancy. The result showed that the rats given 83,33 mg/kg BW ethanol extract of purwoceng tended to increase the weight of ovarium, uterus, and pups but it didnot increase the weight of plasenta. Number of site of implantation, ratio of implantation site to numberof corpus luteum, and ratio of number of pups to implantation site were higher on rat given 83,33 mg/kgBW ethanol extract of purwoceng. Conclusion of this study is ethanol extract of Pimpinella alpina rootsgiven at postplasentation improve reproductive performance.

Abstract

Pregnancy is an integral part of the circulatory system between pups and mother. Growth anddevelopment of pups is determined by intake from their mother. The purpose of this study was to measurethe growth of pup’s bones given ethanol extract purwoceng (Pampinella alpine) for 1 to 13 days of ratgestation. Eight pregnant rats were divided into two groups: control group and purwoceng group that wasgiven ethanol extract purwoceng at a dose of 25 mg/300 g bw. The born pups were observed for 70 days tomeasure the growth and development of head bone, back bone, front legs bone, and hind legs. The resultsshowed that the growth and development of all bones parameters of female pups were higher on purwocenggroup than control the bone while male pups did not difference between purwoceng and control group exceptback bone and hind leg bone. The conclusion of this study is that administration of purwoceng roots ethanolextract on pregnant rats during organogenesis phase can extends the bone length of their pups.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, purwoceng diberikan pada tikus betina bunting umur 1-13 hari dengan tujuan mengetahui bobot badan, ovarium, dan uterus serta mempertahankan titik implantasi yang terbentuk sebelum masa implantasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok tikus bunting kontrol dan tikus bunting yang mendapatkan purwoceng dengan dosis 25 mg/300 g bobot badan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok tikus yang diberi purwoceng cenderung memiliki bobot ovarium dan uterus lebih berat dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Purwoceng juga menyebabkan jumlah titik implantasi tikus hampir mendekati jumlah korpus luteum yang sudah terbentuk, dan ini menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan implantasi lebih baik pada kelompok tikus yang diberi purwoceng.

Abstract

Circadian rhythm is the adaptation response of animals against light alteration that affects various behavioral and physiological responses. Bright light is a danger signal for nocturnal animals because it exposes them more to predators. This research aimed to study the changes in the behavior of rats during the partial solar eclipse (PSE) period. The PSE period occurred across Bogor, Indonesia, on 9 March 2016. The PSE started at 06.19 AM, peaked at 07.21 AM, and ended at 08.30 AM. The light level decreased since the early solar eclipse, then dropped significantly at the peak period. The activities of six mature male Sprague Dawley rats were measured using Opto-Varimex-5 Auto Track System during the PSE period. The measurements were repeated one day after the PSE period as the non-PSE period. There were significant differences (P<0.05) in stereotypic time, burst of stereotypic movement, and horizontal count in the early, peak, and end periods of the PSE period compared with the values at the same time of the non-PSE period. The activities of rats changed during the PSE period. Rats did not rest as in their normal nocturnal behavior during darkness but were more active and stressed because of the rapid change in light level during the PSE period.

Abstract

Pengujian in vitro dan in vivo kayu secang (Caesalpinia sappan L.) sebagai antihiperglikemik sudah dilakukan sebelumnya dan memberikan hasil yang efektif, namun mekanismenya pada hewan belum diketahui. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis mekanisme senyawa metabolit kayu secang (Caesalpinia sappan L.) yang dapat menghambat enzim α-amilase pada hewan melalui penambatan molekuler secara in silico. Profil farmakokinetik ligan diprediksi berdasarkan aturan Lipinski. Prediksi toksisitas dilakukan menggunakan admetSAR. Reseptor diperoleh dari basis data PDB (ID 1OSE). Ligan pembanding yang digunakan adalah akarbosa. Penambatan molekuler dilakukan dengan menambatkan ligan uji brazilin, protosappanin B, protosappanin C, dan sappanchalcone pada enzim α-amilase menggunakan Autodock Vina. Penambatan molekuler dianalisis dengan energi ikatan (ΔG), konstanta inhibisi, serta ikatan kimia. Hasil penambatan molekuler menunjukkan semua ligan uji memiliki potensi sebagai antihiperglikemik. Ligan uji brazilin memiliki aktivitas penghambatan enzim α-amilase lebih baik daripada akarbosa berdasarkan nilai ΔG dan %BSS.

Abstract

Lombok Wildlife Park merupakan lembaga konservasi ex-situ dalam bentuk taman satwa untuk menyokong keselamatan spesies satwa liar. Salah satu satwa liar yang dipelihara adalah musang Lombok (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) dalam kandang bersama dengan musang bulan betina (Paguma larvata). Musang Lombok ditemukan mengalami vulnus pada pangkal ekor dan berlanjut dengan myiasis. Musang Lombok tersebut kemudian diobati dengan pemberian antibiotik dan antiinflamasi untuk penyembuhan luka. Myiasis diterapi dengan pemberian larvasida dan pengambilan larva secara manual. Setelah 5 hari pengobatan, vulnus masih belum sembuh total, larva lalat sudah tidak kelihatan, nafsu makan masih kurang baik.

Abstract

The main problem in tropical poultry farming that often happens is a high mortality rate. Deaths occurrance mostly by heat stress, a condition which is caused by high temperature ( > 28 ° C). Prolonged heat stress was given to 24 quails grouped in four groups: A (39 ° C), B (41 ° C), C (43 ° C) and D (45 ° C). Provision of heat stress was done when the quails were 2 days old. Blood sampling was performed at the age of 6 weeks. Overall, there was an increase in the number of white blood cell, heterophile, eosinophil, monocyte, the ratio between heterophyll and lymphocyte and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in all treatment groups. While the number of lymphocytes decreased in all treatment groups. Basophils had a significant increase in group C, but there was a decrease in group B and D decreased from control. This indicates that maintenance above temperature > 25 ° C can cause oxidative stress due to heat stress in quail.

Abstract

Selama tujuh minggu, penelitian ini menyelidiki infeksi parasit intraeritrosit pada musang Jawa (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). Sampel darah dikumpulkan segera setelah musang dibawa dari habitat aslinya. Setelah periode adaptasi 30 hari, sampel tambahan dikumpulkan setiap minggu. Temuan kami mengungkapkan infeksi dengan Babesia sp., Theileria sp., dan Anaplasma sp., dengan tingkat infeksi tertinggi untuk Anaplasma sp. (0,35 ± 0,05)%, diikuti oleh Theileria sp. (0,12 ± 0,05)%, dan Babesia sp. (0,03 ± 0,02)%. Selama periode penelitian, tingkat infeksi Babesia sp. dan Anaplasma sp. menurun, sedangkan Theileria sp. menunjukkan tren peningkatan hingga akhir penelitian.

Abstract

Luwak Jawa (Paradoxurus hemaphroditus) merupakan hewan yang memiliki kemampuan menghasilkan biji kopi yang berkualitas, sehingga status kesehatannya perlu untuk diperhatikan. Gambaran darah dapat dijadikan sebagai indikator status kesehatan luwak pada kondisi tertentu. Penelitian mengenai luwak telah banyak dilaporkan, namun belum ada penelitian mengenai parameter fisiologis khususnya profil eritrosit dari luwak yang sengaja diberikan buah kopi secara terus menerus selama 3 bulan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghitung profil eritrosit pada luwak Jawa pemakan pemakan kopi dan tidak pemakan buah kopi. Gambaran darah luwak Jawa pada saat adaptasi dan pemeliharaan berfluktuasi. Rataan jumlah eritrosit luwak pemakan buah kopi dan tidak pemakan buah kopi adalah (8,24±2,40) x 106/mL dan (8,25±2,16) x 106/mL, kadar hemoglobin adalah (6,18±2,21) g/dL dan (6,40±2,21) g/dL dan nilai hematokrit adalah (16,50±2,21) % dan (16,00±2,14) %. Secara umum gambaran darah luwak Jawa pemakan buah kopi memiliki rataan yang lebih rendah dari pada luwak Jawa yang tidak diberi buah kopi.
