Abstract

In the management of the catchment area, vegetation plays a crucial role in regulating the hydrological cycle of the ecosystem. However, the construction of dams for hydropower plants and the lack of management of the surrounding area pose a serious threat to forest deforestation. This study aimed to determine the composition and structure of tree stands and tree saplings in the catchment area of PT Kerinci Merangin Hydro Power Plant, Jambi. This method uses a field survey by conducting vegetation analysis on 20 m x 50 m sub-plots with a size of 10 m x 10 m and 5 m x 5 m for trees and saplings. Based on the results, 21 families, 31 genera, 36 species, and 54 individuals were found in the tree strata with Lauraceae as the co-dominant family with a percentage of 12.96%, while the composition of sapling strata plant vegetation found 17 families, 23 genera, 25 species, and 33 individuals with the co-dominant family in the Sapindaceae family with a percentage of 15.15%. Microcos sp. species has the highest INP of 28.80% for tree strata and Dimocarpus sp. for sapling strata at 28.39%. The diversity index was high in the tree stratum at 3.43 and sapling at 3.13. This study can help determine strategies for implementing soil and water conservation, especially forestry regulations, in landscape management.

Abstract

Research on Estimating Mangrove Forest Health in the Bama Resort Area, Baluran National Park, Situbondo, East Java was conducted in 2 locations namely Pantai Bama and Tanjung Cemara from January to February 2024. The purpose of this study was to determine the vegetation structure and health of mangrove forests in the Bama Resort area. The method used in this study is the method of nested plots with transects with the number of plots used as many as 10 plots in each location. The research was conducted from January to February. Mangrove canopy cover data were taken using Monmang Vers 2.0 application with hemispherical photography method. The results showed that there were 8species of mangroves found. In the Bama Beach area, 3 species of true mangroves were found with the highest INP of the three levels found in R. apiculata and H 'classified as low category. While in Tanjung Cemara found 6 species of true mangroves and 1 asociate mangrove, with the highest INP of seedling and sapling levels found in R. apiculata and for tree levels found in R. Stylosa, with the value of H' classified as  moderate category. Mangrove health conditions in the Bama Resort area are in moderate condition (55,683%).

Abstract

Agroforestry is an intensive land management system combining forestry, agricultural, fruit, and medicinal plants to achieve optimal results while ensuring land conservation and local community practices. This research aims to explore the utilization of agroforestry in the LPHN (Nagari Forest Management Institute) Sungai Buluh, Padang Pariaman Regency. The study was conducted from December to February 2024 using the transect method. The results revealed that the community utilizes 25 types of medicinal plants to treat various ailments such as fever, diarrhea, coughs, colds, wounds, digestive issues, and joint pain. The most commonly used plant part is the leaf, due to its practicality and easy accessibility. These medicinal plant uses reflect the community's traditional knowledge passed down through generations. Furthermore, non-timber forest products were categorized into two groups based on their usage: 4 types of food ingredients and 4 types of natural dyes or cooking ingredients. In conclusion, the study highlights the significant role of local agroforestry practices in maintaining health and biodiversity. The implications of this research suggest the need for sustainable agroforestry management to preserve both ecological and cultural values.

Abstract

Tetrastigma is a genus in the Vitaceae family which is characterized by the presence of tendrils. This plant has a liana habit, which requires tall plants as support in its life. Induction of host roots, Tetrastigma papillosum, in this study, used Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA), which is a class of auxin that functions to induce cell expansion and initiation of rooting. This research was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. Several NAA concentrations as treatments consist of A (0 ppm), B (2.5 ppm), C (5 ppm), D (7.5 ppm), and E (10 ppm). Root induction of Tetrastigma papillosum can be initiated with NAA at small concentrations because endogenous auxin induces roots more quickly.

Abstract

Silokek Geopark Area is a geopark area that is being appointed into a national geopark consisting of 25 geodiversity, 12 biodiversity, and 17 cultural diversity sites. The objective of the study is to determine the composition and structure of vegetation of trees in the Silokek Geopark area, Sijunjung Regency. This research has been conducted from September to December 2022 by using the transect method. The plot was made of 10 plots with a size of 10x10 meters for vegetation that is placed alternately on both sides of the transect. Identification is carried out at the Andalas University Herbarium. Based on the research results, 15 families, 19 genera, 22 species, and 30 individuals were found. The co-dominant families are Moraceae (20%), Ebenaceae (16.67%), and Euphorbiaceae (13.33%). The highest important value index of Ficus Stricta was obtained at 57.86% and the lowest in the Nephelium Lappaceum at 7.36%. The plant diversity index in this area is classified as moderate (H '= 2.85). It is recommended that the government to controlling the diversity of plants in the Silokek Geopark area, considering that this area is a tourist area.

Abstract

Lack of education in waste management has led to a large amount of waste being dumped in landfills. Organic waste is the largest type of waste disposed of in landfills. If organic waste is not managed properly, it can cause unpleasant odors in the environment and become a risk factor for global warming and explosions in landfills. Until now, waste management, both organic and inorganic waste, is still a challenge. This is also the case in RW 02 Kelurahan Air Putih. The community directly disposes of household waste without sorting the waste by type. In addition, the community also does not know how to process organic waste into useful items such as eco-enzyme and eco-enzyme processed products, namely cleaning fluids. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills on how to process household organic waste into eco-enzyme and liquid soap made from eco-enzyme. The targets in this activity are housewives in RT 06, RT 07, and RT 08, RW 02 Air Putih Village. The method used in this community service activity is socialization and training on how to make eco-enzyme and multipurpose liquid soap. The results obtained from this activity are the increased knowledge and skills of the community in processing organic waste into eco-enzyme and multipurpose liquid soap. The community is also enthusiastic and interested in making these products again in their homes.

Abstract

Vegetation analysis is a way of studying the composition of species and the structure of the vegetation. The objective research about understorey vegetation analysis in the flora habitat of Rafflesia arnoldii in Bukit Pinang Mancuang Forest, Kamang Mudiak, Agam was to determine the composition and structure in the flora habitat of Rafflesia arnoldii in Bukit Pinang Mancuang Forest, Kamang Mudiak, Agam. Vegetation analysis was carried out by using the quadratic plot method with a size of 2 x 2 m. There were 6 plots have been made and species identification was carried out at the Andalas University Herbarium. According to the observation result, there are 32 species discovered consisting of 601 individuals with 19 families. The dominant families are Rubiaceae (34.61%) and Utricaceae (32.61%). The importance value index of Coffea canephora was obtained (51.28%). The plant diversity index in this area was classified as moderate (H'=2.58). Based on the analysis conveyed, it can be concluded that the Rubiaceae and Urticaceae families are adequate forest and life support for Rafflesia arnoldii habitat. It is recommended that the local government designated the forest as a conservation area in order to preserve the existence of Rafflesia arnoldii and its habitat.
