Abstract

Students find mathematics boring to study because it is thought to be difficult for them to understand, particularly when it comes to arithmetic operations, symbols, and a variety of abstract formulas. The challenge in working with fractions is equal the denominator throughout addition and subtraction operations. This study's goal was to identify the types and causes of student difficulty in the content for fractional arithmetic operations. Descriptive research is used in this study. All class VII students make up the population, and there were a total of 17 participants sampled. a tool with an interview guide and written test. Six students were chosen for interviews based on the test results that have been examined. The results showed that the students' level of difficulty was 29.41 percent, moderate difficulty was 5.88 percent, high difficulty was 41.18 percent, and very high difficulty was 23.53 percent. The types of difficulties experienced by students in using concepts and principles ranged from 26.47 percent to 64.71 percent, and difficulties in using verbal were as high as 14.71 percent. It was determined that children were still having trouble grasping the idea of fractions.

Abstract

The ability to engage in mathematical creative thinking is essential for vocational school students, both in solving mathematical problems and in their future professional careers. However, current observations indicate that this skill is not sufficiently emphasized. This study aims to comprehensively examine mathematical creative thinking abilities across different levels of mathematical proficiency: low, medium, and high. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study involved 73 eleventh-grade students from a vocational school in Langsa City. The research instruments included a test consisting of five questions designed to assess creative thinking abilities related to composition functions, as well as interviews for additional qualitative insights. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The analysis results indicate that students' creative thinking abilities in the context of composition functions are predominantly in the low category, with medium and high abilities being less prevalent. There is a pressing need to foster creative thinking practices to ensure that vocational school graduates are well-equipped to become productive workers across various sectors.

Abstract

This research is to develop mathematics teaching materials that are integrated with elementary school thematic learning. The purpose of the development is to obtain mathematics teaching materials that prioritize the local wisdom of the Acehnese people. This teaching material is helpful for fifth-grade elementary school students in which there are character values for learning mathematics. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method with the ADDIE model development research design. This research focuses on analyzing elementary school teachers who face the problem of integrated mathematics-based character education in thematic learning, then making initial designs and developing character education-based mathematics teaching materials that are integrated into the learning theme. The results showed that character education-based mathematics teaching materials were compatible with elementary students' thematic learning. Mathematics teaching materials focused on solving math problems for elementary students, integrating character values in mathematics with various themes in thematic learning by integrating each mathematics material into themes. The mathematics teaching materials developed were designed with various activities related to daily activities with straightforward language to be understood and made into a mathematical model.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the KIP-K Scholarship instrument at PTKIN IAIN Langsa while developing non-test instruments (questionnaires). This instrument is used to obtain information about students who apply for KIP-K scholarships. The instrument of content validity is obtained through a quantitative analysis by nine selected experts and a qualitative approach with an expert review of a set of questionnaires that have been arranged. In determining the content validity and reliability level, the experts analyzed a questionnaire quantitatively consisting of 29 items with three components: economic, household, and academic and non-academic students’ achievements. The data from this expert judgment is calculated using the formula Aiken V. While expert reviews are qualitatively similar to suggestions and feedback, they are used to refine constructed items. The result of these students’ economic condition, household, and academic and non-academic achievements was above 0.72 with a significance level of 5%, namely 0.92, 0.96, and 0.96. All of the 29 items are very valid (V > 0.72, V1 > 0.50) and reliable (α = 0,944). The conclusion that each component is closely related indicates information on the feasibility of distributing KIP-K. The instruments embodied at IAIN Langsa have high validity, and the level of reliability is excellent. This instrument can obtain complete information on prospective students who will become KIP-K scholarship recipients in 2022.
