Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, the inclusion of special needs children in mainstream education poses significant challenges, necessitating effective instructional strategies to meet their diverse learning needs. This study explores the effectiveness of Differentiated Instruction (DI) models in inclusive schooling settings, aiming to assess their impact on the learning outcomes and experiences of special needs children. Through telephone interviews with six teachers representing diverse educational backgrounds, this research delves into their experiences with implementing DI models. Thematic data analysis was employed to identify patterns, themes, and challenges associated with using DI in inclusive classrooms. The findings shed light on the effectiveness of various instructional strategies in meeting the unique needs of special needs children, while also uncovering barriers to effective implementation such as limited resources and inadequate training. Preliminary results indicate that DI models have the potential to enhance the learning experiences and outcomes of special needs children within inclusive settings. Teachers reported increased student engagement, motivation, and academic progress when employing tailored instructional approaches. However, challenges such as resource constraints and lack of training emerged as hindrances to effective DI implementation. This study underscores the importance of adopting student-centered instructional approaches to accommodate diverse learning needs in inclusive classrooms. Furthermore, it highlights the necessity for targeted professional development programs and resource allocation to support teachers in effectively implementing DI strategies. By contributing insights into best practices for supporting the educational success of special needs children in mainstream schools, this research adds to the ongoing discourse on inclusive education in Aceh.

Abstract

Lack of disaster preparedness has contributed to many disaster victims, especially people with disabilities, who are often neglected in making disaster risk reduction plans. In light of the recent World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai, Japan, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015-2030, which establishes new priorities for disaster risk reduction over the next 15 years, this issue has become a hot topic since then. This paper aims to contribute ideas to the Indonesian government in reforming and improving disaster preparedness services for people with disabilities based on successful theories, research, and practices developed in several countries. Through reviewing literature studies related to the issue and interviewing relevant informants in Indonesia, both data sources coped with six strategies that may contribute to improving disaster preparedness for disabled individuals. The strategies as the results of this study are intended to be used as reference material, particularly by the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), in order to aid in the creation of a framework to better comprehend the communication, mobilization, transportation, and medical requirements of people with disabilities in the context of preparing disaster preparedness program scenarios.

Abstract

The widespread integration of digital teaching platforms in education has prompted an exploration of their impact on teacher workload and well-being. This research focuses on understanding the effects of Platform Merdeka Mengajar (PMM), a prominent digital teaching platform in Indonesia, on the workload and well-being of participating high school teachers in Banda Aceh Municipality and Great Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive research design, six teachers were interviewed to explore their experiences with PMM. Thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that while PMM offers valuable resources and fosters professional collaboration, it also increases workload and stress due to additional preparation time and the need for technological adaptation. The study highlights the importance of providing targeted training, improving the platform's usability, and enhancing its integration features to mitigate these challenges. Despite its limitations, including a small sample size and potential biases in qualitative data, the study provides insights into the potential benefits and challenges of integrating digital platforms into educational practices in Indonesia. The findings underscore the need for a balanced approach to technological integration that supports teachers' professional development and well-being. A more supportive access is necessary to develop the digital platform to balance the nuanced dynamics of teachers’ workload and well-being.

Abstract

Early childhood is the golden age, which is the most important period in a child's growth and development. Early childhood education must be designed to match their developmental stage. However, based on available data, around 5-10% of children worldwide experience speech or language delays at certain ages. Therefore, the role of parents is crucial in developing language intelligence in children with speech delays aged 4-5 years. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of parents in developing language intelligence in speech-delayed children aged 4-5 years. This study is a field study analyzed through qualitative descriptive methods. The data analysis technique involves three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The respondents in this study were 3 parents and 3 children. Data were collected through observation and interviews. Based on the results of the study, the efforts made by parents include creating an environment that supports language development, providing quality time for verbal interaction, utilizing learning media, providing opportunities for social play, and seeking professional help. The conclusion of this study is that parents play a very important role in developing the language intelligence of children who experience speech delays. This study has significant implications both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, the findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of parents in developing language intelligence in children with speech delays. Keywords: Role of Parents, Language Intelligence, Speech Delay
