Abstract

The issue of Islam and human rights has become important issue in Indonesia at least since the last two decades. Indonesian Muslims have developed two different approaches to human rights: in complete agreement with the declaration of universal human rights; and in resistance to that declaration and developing understanding that Islam encompasses human rights values. The article argues for its part that human rights are not absolutely universal, because they are based chiefly on Western values, structures, ethics and morality. For that, it is reasonable to question their universality. The present article focuses on how Indonesian Muslim intellectuals conceive of human rights and Islamic values as they perceive the two. Specifically, it focuses on four principal issues in human rights discourse: freedom of opinion, religious freedoms, rights of women, and criminal law. The authors reveal in the conclusion that although some Indonesian Muslim intellectuals admit that universal human rights are truly universal, they still see differences in certain cases, due to differences in socio-cultural background. They have tried to affect a synthesis between the universality and particularity of both Islamic and universal human rights in order to make both fit within the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating the socio-religious response of pesantren in Madura towards Covid-19 pandemic. Using qualitative research and analysis based on sociology of religion theory, this study found that pesantren in Madura present anticipatory response to curb the spread of Covid-19 by prioritizing aspects of personal safety and risk-avoiding, be it material or non-material. This responsive move is carried out by pesantren through a series of actions oriented towards protection and preservation principles. At the practical level, these principles are implemented in two approaches at once, structural and cultural. The structural approach refers to pesantren policies implementing health protocols in its vicinity, such as social and physical distancing, using hand sanitizer, temporarily stopping congregational worship activities, and postponing ceremonial religious activities that attract crowds. On the other hand, cultural approach refers to the involvement of pesantren in sounding religious calls to the general public to always abide by the health protocols and procedures for carrying out activities of worship amidst the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of post-truth politics, role, and its influence on the return of Islamophobic narratives in the dynamics of Indonesian political constellation. There are three main issues discussed in this study: post-truth, Islamophobia in Indonesia, and contemporary Indonesian political constellation. Using qualitative research and analysis of critical theory perspectives, this study found that the development of post-truth political practices indirectly evokes the narrative of Islamophobia in contemporary Indonesian political constellation. The return of the Islamophobia can be seen in three ways. First, the practice of post-truth politics which is rooted in the politicization of religion and ethnicity, it gives negative impact not only because of unhealthy process of leadership circulation in Indonesia, but has also faltered the reality of Indonesia's plurality as a pluralist state, both in terms of ethnicity and religion. Second, post-truth political practices in which contain propaganda, intimidation, lies and hate speech have stimulated the rise of sentiment towards religious social groups, as happened in the “212 Movement”. Third, the return of Islamophobic narratives due to political Post-truth appears to be increasing clashes and practices of religious intolerance in Indonesia, where intolerance is practiced by the majority against minority groups.

Abstract

To inculcate since the early age concept of gender equality within children is essential and needs to intensify. One way to socialize this concept is through education. Arabic language as a subject formally taught among elementary school students, especially in their integrated system schools, can be utilized as a vehicle for this particular agenda.  A research conducted to study materials being taught in those schools in connection with gender equality is required. This paper is designed using analytic descriptive method to help accomplish that purpose.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is an Islamic religious organization founded in 1912 that has survived for more than a century in Indonesia. The survival and dynamic development of Muhammadiyah has inspired exploratory studies revealing the concomitant factors behind the proliferation of Muhammadiyah, one of which is the idea of Islam Berkemajuan (progressive Islam). This study relies mostly on the official documents and individual works published before and after the coinage of the terminology in the early 2000s. This study approaches the subject by systematically and critically constructing the historical and theological perspectives. This research shows that Islam Berkemajuan finds its roots in progressivice Islamic discourse among Muslim intellectuals and activists in early twentieth-century Indonesia. The idea of progress then serves as an intellectual response to social, political, and economic plight of Indonesians under Dutch colonial rule. In addition, the idea of progress is also particularly found in the discourse among inner circles of Muhammadiyah to advance the position of Muslims. Islam Berkemajuan was founded on theological grounds. In this, the teaching of Ahmad Dahlan on surah al-‘Ashr and surah al-Ma’un has become a strong inspiration behind Muhammadiyah’s commitment to using religious and rational understanding in teaching and action, developing education, health services, economic development, empowerment, philanthropy, and humanitarian action.

Abstract

This article was written to examine the new policy of the Ministry of Kemendikbud, namely the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar Design, and its Implications for Evaluation of Islamic Religious Education Learning. The emergence of this new curriculum is due to the results of an assessment conducted by PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) assessing that the quality of education in Indonesia is ranked 74th out of 79 countries. Broadly speaking, Indonesian education has experienced a very significant decline in literacy and numeracy. Starting from this phenomenon, the Ministry of Education and Culture designed a new curriculum design called independent learning. This study uses the Library Research method. Namely by collecting data and information in the form of texts, policy documents and previous studies on curriculum design in a formal institution. After studying the design of the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar, this study analyses the implications of the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar design with evaluation in Islamic religious education learning. The results of this study include, among others, that the new policy on the design of the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar that will be applied in all formal education institutions in Indonesia is broadly as follows: 1) The national exam which previously only focused on the cognitive competence of students in the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar has changed. become a minimum competency assessment that is held halfway through the education level process. 2) National standard school exams, which were formerly administered by the state, in this Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar were given to related educational institutions. 3) Simplification in compiling learning device documents. 4) Changes in the Zoning system in the admission of new students. Islamic religious education is a subject that is different from other subjects, this is because the learning process of Islamic religious education is coloured by divine spirits, from these divine spirits used to design an Islamic religious learning. Seeing the characteristics of the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar that have been analysed above, the evaluation of Islamic religious education learning should be transformed into Authentic Assessment. In authentic research, Islamic education does not only assess students cognitively, but also assesses affectively (qolbiyah) and also morally (amaliyah).

Abstract

The progress of Hassan's attitude and thinking has prompted Muslims to revisit every custom and tradition that has been considered to be well established and taken for granted, as adopted by "traditionalists." Muslims have been challenged to be critical of criticism - his sharp criticism of every action and thought that does not come from the Qur'an and Sunnah. Hassan's challenge to critical thinking does not mean to invite people to anti-dogma. The challenge to secularists in the matter of secular nationalism also does not mean anti-modernity. However, Hassan is critical and upholds rationality based on Islamic teachings. Basically Hassan called on the ummah of Islam to return to the teachings of Islam that has long been forgotten by its own adherents that resulted in the decline and freeze of the ummah. that is the basis for the author to write an article with the title of Hassan Position In Islamic Reform in Indonesia
