Abstract One of the most widespread centers for informal learning among Islamic communities in Indonesia is majlis taklim. Considered an important and productive place for imbibing a sound Islamic creed, majlis taklim gives the community a chance to be able to carry out their religious teachings without terms and conditions of formal institutions. Developed and empowered since earlier Islam, it is the first of its kind in Islamic history to function as a means of socializing Islam. The present day majlis taklim is still being carried out especially by mothers. Mostly carried out in rural and suburban areas, in their mosques and private houses. A strategic step for spreading Islamic values among them is through learning al-Qur'an by memorizing and understanding its short verses; it begins with an introduction to basic Arabic, then its vocabularies and followed by understanding the meaning of the Qur’anic verses word by word side by side with the explanation of  the values contained in it. This activity has been carried out through simple lectures, assignment and dialogue techniques.

Abstract

AbstractServing as the language of al-Qur'an and everyday Islamic rituals both individually and in public congregation, Arabic is a necessary tool for all Muslims to complete their religious duties; therefore, Arabic subject is offered elsewhere starting from PAUD education to university level in our Muslim majority country. This study is going to discuss a specific aspect regarding the strategy of teaching Arabic in higher education. This specific aspect has already been our concern quite a while; it related to the ‘upgrade’ or the transformation of IAIN institution into UIN in which there are faculties with non-religious subjects and their students whose background are of non-or-minimum earlier religious education. In general, they were educated in public high school and had not enough study in Arabic; they were succinctly not familiar with its linguistic peculiarities. Qualitative in nature and with naturalistic approach, this study unveils the urgency of Arabic language proficiency for these students of non-religious faculties. It reveals as well the need for a shift in teaching strategies at UIN for students in non-religious faculties, in a systematic and proper way so that they may develop interest towards the study of Arabic language

Abstract

The focus of this study is related to the translation techniques of Covid-19 terms from Arabic language into Indonesian language and one of its regional languages, Sundanese. The translation materials are the learning material texts submitted by students on WhatsApp. This study uses a comparative descriptive method to analyze the transformation of vocabularies or terms in Arabic into Indonesian and one its regional language, Sundanese. Regarding the texts, no different from any translation of other texts, the techniques used that can be observed here are pure borrowing or literal translation, naturalized borrowing, and established equivalent. The technique of pure borrowing seems to be done as the last resort; words, such as virus, corona, internet, soap and bacteria, are not terms familiar for everyday conversation in these languages. Even more, other words, such as frustrasi, depresi, ahli jiwa ‘frustration, depression, psychiatrist’, have no equivalents in Sundanese. Consequently, these words are not translated in Sundanese text, but taken as they are. Comparing the translation results from Arabic into Indonesian and Sundanese gives us information that very often to use the terms as used in the Indonesian language is the only option the Sundanese students might have.

Abstract

Social construction and social status conflict are important issues in literary sociology studies, including in Nizami's Layla Majnun. The character of Qais in this novel represents the complex dynamics between social norms, societal expectations, and personal identity. This study aims to describe how social construction shapes Qais' role and position in society, as well as how social status conflict affects his life journey and choices. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a sociology of literature approach. The results show that Qais experiences strong social pressure due to class differences and cultural norms that hinder his love for Layla. Qais' social status as a poet who is considered crazy by society symbolizes resistance to rigid social constructions. The character of Qais represents an individual trapped in a social system that does not give him space, but still shows sincerity and firmness in defending his love and beliefs. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the impact of social construction on individual freedom and the relevance of social status conflict in modern life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the changes in rhyme and rhythm as well as the thematic content of the qaṣīdah Faidhotul Man Min Rohmati Wahhabil Manan composed by Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafidz, using the approach of ʿarūḍ (Arabic prosody) and qawāfī (rhyme theory). The qaṣīdah, as a form of classical Arabic poetry, features a distinctive metrical and rhyming structure that serves not only as an aesthetic element but also as a medium for conveying spiritual and religious messages. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, using textual analysis techniques from Arabic literary studies. The analysis reveals that this qaṣīdah demonstrates variations in rhythm (wazn) and rhyme (qāfiyah) patterns while maintaining semantic coherence and the musical integrity of the poem. In terms of theme, the qaṣīdah contains praise for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), affirmation of divine mercy, and expressions of spiritual longing and submission to Allah.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the social and cultural values represented in the film Farha using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. The film Farha portrays the life of Palestinian society before and during colonization through the perspective of a young girl struggling to survive in a world fraught with division and conflict. By focusing on her journey, the film provides a poignant depiction of the challenges, aspirations, and transformations within Palestinian society. As a work of visual storytelling, Farha serves as a medium to shed light on the historical and social realities faced by Palestinians. This paper aims to explore the socio-cultural values embedded in the film, particularly in relation to traditional customs, educational aspirations, and shifting gender roles. The study employs Peirce's triadic semiotic model, which consists of three key elements: the representamen (the sign itself), the object (what the sign refers to), and the interpretant (the meaning derived by the audience). Through this approach, the research seeks to uncover the deeper significance behind the film's symbolic elements and their implications for understanding Palestinian cultural identity. The findings of this study indicate that Farha depicts Palestinian society as one that is deeply rooted in traditional social values, emphasizing community, resilience, and familial bonds. Furthermore, the film brings attention to the importance of education as a means of empowerment, particularly for women. The protagonist's aspiration for education symbolizes a broader societal shift toward gender equality and self-determination, highlighting the evolving roles of women in Palestinian society.
