Abstract

This research aims to produce comic media product which is suitable for use by tenth grade students at second semester in English learning especially Narrative Text. This research used adaptation of development procedures by Sugiyono through seven stages of development. There are Potential and Problem, Data Collecting, Product Design, Design Validity, Design Improvements, Product Trial and Product Revision (revision 2). The research subject was the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purbolinggo. Data collection was carried out by using a questionnaire and interview. The instrument of this research is in the form of validation sheet and assessment sheet. The researcher used the tabulation and calculating the average score as Data analysis techniques. The comic media which is developed has been feasible to be applied in learning after getting a good score in validation stage. The average scores of of the validation I of the material experts and media experts are 4.00 and 3.70 and the average scores of of the validation II of the material experts and media experts are 4,13 and 3,93 respectively. In addition, assessments that was given to students at the product trial stage obtained good score with an average score 4,02. In conclusion, the Fairy Tale comic is a comic media in teaching English especially Narrative Text. It is developed by using the adaptation of development procedures by Sugiyono. The Fairy Tale Comic can fulfill the objectives of the research and attract students' interest and motivation in learning English. It is suggested that the next researchers develop the comic media for other materials of Englsih and have more than one school as the subject of research in assessing the comic so the revision can be gained from different perspective of students.

Abstract

The study is intended to increase speaking performance of PAI students of Muhammadiyah University of Metro by using storytelling. The design of the research is collaborative classroom action research which involves a collaborator in whole process of the research. The instruments of the research are observation sheet, field notes, and speaking test. The criteria of success of the research are 100% from thirty students are active in the classroom and get score equal to or more than 70. The result shows that twenty two students get score 70 in Cycle 1 and thirty in Cycle 2.

Abstract

This study was intended to improve the ability of the students of the Islamic Education Study Program in writing a recount text by outlining technique. They were guided to write a recount text based on the outline they made before producing the text. The teaching and learning activities consisted of leading the students to make an outline, assigning them to make an outline, leading them write a recount text based on the outline, and the last assigning them to write a recount text based on the outline. The result showed that the students’ ability in writing recount texts was improved. In the end of Cycle 2, there were 25 out 30 students who obtained score > 70. Hence, the outlining technique is very helpful to improve the students’ ability in writing recount texts.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to develop the learning materials of reading 2 integrated with Islamic values. The design of the study is research and development (R&D). The setting of the study is English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The respondents of study are lecturer and students of the third semester. The steps of the study are need analysis, the result of need analysis, material development, expert validation, try out, and final product. The result of the study is materials of reading 2 inserted with Islamic values. The materials are compiled in a book which consists of five units. Each unit consists of text material, example of texts, vocabulary, and exercises.

Abstract

Abstract:Listening is one of the fundamental language skills.Based on the pre survey research, many students at Senior High School were not interested in listening course.This research tried to develop podcast of English song (PES) as the media in order to help the teacher in the teaching of listening and make the students interested in listening course. The type of the reseacher is developmental research.The steps of this research are self evaluation, expert review and one-to-one, small group, and field test. The subjects of this research are the students of SMAN 03 Metro and SMK Muhammadiyah 03 Metro. The researcher collected the data by giving some questionnaires to the expert review and students to find out whether the media is applicable and suitable or not. The result showed that: first, most of the studentsfelt fun and enjoyable in the learning process of listening course. Second, PES media was applicable, the students were active, very enthusiastic, excited with PES media. Key Words: English song, Listening media, Podcast.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to develop practical English speaking materials by using Problem Based Learning (PBL). The design of the study is research and development which attempts to develop descriptive and recount text for speaking materials. The steps of the research and development for the materials include self evaluation, expert review, one-to-one try out, small group try out, field test, and final product. The subjects of this research are the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 6 Metro. The result of the study is English learning material for speaking skill based on problem based learning.

Abstract

This study was intended to improve the ability of the MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pubian in writing a recount text by using process writing approach. They were guided to write recount texts through the five-step writing process namely prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The result showed that the students’ ability in writing recount texts was improved. In the end of Cycle 2, there were 22 out 30 students who obtained score > 60. Hence, the process writing approach is very effective to improve the students’ ability in writing recount texts.

Abstract

The study is aimed to find out whether the use of Stand upSequence Game is effective as the media in teaching vocabularymastery. The study used quasi-experimental design with the researchpopulation namely 22 female students of Budi Utomo Orphanage. The researcher conducted the systematic of purposive samplingand used pre-test and post-test as a research instrument. To analyze thepre-test and post-test score, the researcher used t-test analyzes. Theresult of the first hypothesis test which uses 5% significant degree, wherethe t-test obtained is (6.999) which also higher than that of t table (2.22).The second hypothesis test where the t-test obtained is (2.274) which ishigher than that of t table (2.08). It shows that the students who are taughtby Stand up Sequence Game having a higher score. In conclusion, thatteaching English vocabulary using Stand up Sequence Game is moreeffective than that of without using Stand up Sequence Game.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether employing the team word-webbing strategy had any appreciable impact on students' reading comprehension of descriptive texts for the eleventh graders at SMK Ma'arif NU 1 Purbolinggo Lampung Timur. In this study, the researcher employed quantitative research using a quasi-experimental approach. Pre-test and post-test were utilized as the tests instruments. Two classes are XI AK 1 and XI AK 2, each class consisted of 40 pupils, served as the sample. The evaluation of the test results places a strong emphasis on the students' ability to comprehend the text. Data analysis utilizing the t-test formula and test analysis using the normality and homogeneity tests are both necessary. Pre-test scores for the experimental group and control group as a whole averaged 64.33 and 65.30, respectively. In contrast, the experimental group's post-test scores were higher than the control group, coming in at 75.80 for the experimental group and 69.80 for the control group. It may be said that using Team Word Webbing in the classroom has a major impact on students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

Cohesion is the relation between one sentences and another sentence, it refers to the meaning in the sentence. Cohesion is divided into twotypes; grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. This research analyzegrammatical and lexical cohesion types in the song lyric of Q1 Album by Gamaliel.The objectives of this research were to identify the kinds of grammatical and lexicalcohesion found in the song lyric and to know the most dominant type found.Descriptive qualitative method was used to classify and analyze the data. Thisresearch applied the theory of Halliday and Hasan to identify the types ofgrammatical and lexical cohesion. The researcher found 217 cohesion items whichconsist of 181 references, 1 substitution, and 16 conjunction in grammaticalcohesion. While in lexical cohesion, there are 11 reiteration (9 repetitions, 1synonym, and 1 general word) and 8 collocations. The most dominant type ofgrammatical cohesion is personal reference with 121 items or around 55.7% andrepetition with 9 items or around 4.1% in lexical cohesion.
