Abstract

Vocabulary is an essential component in learning English. It influences four English skills; they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing, for getting a good result in English. In teaching learning process, the teacher often implements the less interesting method, technique, or even media of vocabulary mastery in teaching and learning process which make the students to be bored, inactive, an uniterested in memorizing English vocabulary. Some media can be interested as the solutions in vocabulary mastery, they are Snake Ladders media and Scrabble media.The investigation was undergone by quantitative research. The researcher applied experimental research. This research underwent pre-test post-test control group design. To analyze data, t-test formula is used to measure the result of collected data. From the t-test measurement, it showed that t-test is 3.15 and t-table is 2.66. It means that t-hit > t-table. Based on the collected data, there is different result of using Snake Ladders from Scrabble media toward students’ vocabulary mastery. It was found that the students who are taught by using Snake Ladders resulted significant outcome than those are instructed by Scrabble media. It means that Snake Ladders is effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Instructing listening comprehension to EFL students need good plannings. Authentic listening materials as a strategic teaching media are best utilized by English instructors to facilitate the EFL students’ listening comprehension in classrooms and language laboratory. Applying authentic listening materials as teaching media in listening practice activites are challenged to bridge EFL students and not only enhancing their listening skill but also improving and developing their  knowledge of the real life, culture, and social affairs of English native speakers.The source of authentic listening materials applied in the subject class are mostly taken from youtube.com. A popular open source website which provide online videos. The aim of the study was to find out EFL students’ attitudes and perceptions when and after using the authentic videos in an EFL listening class. The participants of the study were the second semester EFL students of English Language Teaching department in Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro Indonesia. The data were gathered from a questionnaire and open interviews. It is found out that most of EFL students who were instructed by the authentic videos show positive attitudes and have good perceptions in utilizing youtube videos as one of the alternative authentic materials in comprehending English utterances.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to know whether the Jigsaw II can improve the 11th Graders’ reading comprehension. The findings revealed that Jigsaw II improved the students’ reading comprehension. At first, the teacher activates the prior knowledge of the students, then, explains the procedure of the strategy, then, the students discuss in jigsaw groups and in expert ones. In addition, the students do reading comprehension quizzes, the teacher determines the students’ scores.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of the study was to develop the evaluation Instrument of reading four test . The development of such instrument is a valuable effort to measure the students’ mastery of the reading skill and to improve the quality of the evaluation instrument which is produced by the teacher. Before the teacher develop the reading evaluation instrument, he had cultivated the previous test instrument to analyze the weakness and the strength of the implemented test instrument. After that, the teacher started to develop a prototype which has been modified by the teacher himself. Then, he administered the first try out to the English students of semester VII and collecting some inputs and critics of the modified reading test instrument after the students finished doing the test. The result of the test together with the students’ critics and inputs were used to rebuild the reading test intrument better. At last, the teacher has developed the evaluation instrument of reading test for students of semester VII in Muhammadiyah University of Metro.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out if Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) can develop the 12th Grade Students’ reading comprehension. The findings showed that CTL is able to enhance the students’ reading comprehension. Before the teacher applied CTL in the class, he activated the students’ schemata of  understanding some of the English texts, then, he addressed the implementated procedure of the strategy, in addition, the students started to read the text and situated the text to the real-life, then they related the content of the text by answering “What, Where, Why” and the important aspects of understanding the text. At last, the students got post-test of reading comprehension, and the teacher determined the students’ scores.

Abstract

Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengajarkan masyarakat, terutama anggota Pimpinan Cabang Aisyiyah (PCA) Metro Utara tentang pentingnya mengelola sampah dengan baik. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk penyelenggaraan seminar dan workshop pemanfaatan sampah buangan rumah tangga. Pada kegiatan seminar tersebut, para peserta diajak mengenali jenis-jenis sampah sisa pembuangan rumah tangga, bahaya lingkungan, dan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan workshop pemanfaatan sampah plastik daur ulang botol plastik bekas air mineral yang mudah ditemukan di banyak tempat. Luaran dari program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat dan menghasilkan produk daur ulang yang bernilai ekonomis. Meskipun masih ada orang yang membuang sampah sembarangan, tapi program ini membantu meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterlibatan masyarakat dalam menjaga lingkungan. Penanganan masalah sampah ini dapat dilakukan secara gotong-royong bersama masyarakat melalui komunitas dengan membentuk kelompok pengelola bank sampah yang nantinya juga dapat berdampak positif pada perekonomian masyarakat. Meskipun ada tantangan seperti masalah dana dan partisipasi masyarakat, tapi ada peluang untuk mengembangkan program ini lebih lanjut melalui inovasi dan kemitraan. Program ini merupakan langkah awal yang penting untuk ikut berpartisipasi dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan dengan mengelola sampah secara baik dan memberdayakan ibu-ibu anggota Aisyiyah Metro Utara untuk dapat menambah income keluarga dengan membuat barang-barang kerajinan dari sampah daur ulang.

Abstract

Komunikasi adalah aspek penting yang selalu hadir dalam organisasi. Komunikasi berfungsi secara mendasar pada pembentukan berbagai aspek dalam setiap organisasi. Pada penelitian kualitatif ini, para peneliti mencoba memahami peran komunikasi dalam proses pengambilan keputusan organisasi utamanya di MA Muhammadiyah Metro. Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan para responden yang juga melakukan pengamatan di Lembaga Pendidikan Islam tersebut. Hasil analisis data tersebut menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi efektif telah dipraktikkan di dalam organisasi pendidikan Islam tersebut. Didapati bahwa di MA Muhammadiyah Metro telah melaksanakan komunikasi efektif yaitu komunikasi interaksi dua arah di mana salah satunya dengan memanfaatkan platform digital. Komunikasi efektif tersebut telah menghasilkan pengaruh positif terutama pada penyelesaian masalah, dan pembentukan konsensus selama pengambilan keputusan organisasi. Namun demikian, masih juga ditemukan adanya hambatan-hambatan seperti; budaya, hierarkis, dan teknologi sehingga hal ini menunjukkan perlunya penerapan strategi seperti pelatihan keterampilan komunikasi, budaya organisasi yang mendukung, dan peningkatan infrastruktur teknologi informasi, yang semuanya berkontribusi pada peningkatan pengambilan keputusan.

Abstract

Speaking is necessary for students to communicate with others. It is necessary to master the speaking skill by bringing English learning experiences into practice. This research aims to find out whether the ice age 3 cartoons is effective and significantly for PPLG eleventh grade students’ speaking skill at SMK N 3 Metro. This research used Quasi-Experimental Design. The sample of this research is class XI PPLG-A as the experimental class and class PPLG-B as the control class using the Random Sampling method. PPLG-A consists of 32 students as an experimental class and PPLG-B consists of 32 students as a control class. The results of the Wilcoxon Matched Pairs test in first hypothesis, the sig value is 0.000 which is less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05). Ha is accepted. There is an effect of ice age 3 cartoon to support the students of PPLG eleventh grade speaking skill at SMK N 3 Metro. The Mann-Whitney U-Test in second hypothesis test, the sig value is 0.000, which is less than 0.05 (0.00 <0.05). Ha is accepted. There is significance of ice age 3 cartoon to support the students of PPLG eleventh grade speaking ability at SMK N 3 Metro. This research concluded that the Ice Age 3 cartoon clip has been proven to be an effective and significant method to improve speaking skills among eleventh grade PPLG students at SMK N 3 Metro. Future researchers should examine the long-term effects of multimedia devices on language acquisition to better understand their lasting impact on students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

Speech Acts are utterances spoken by people to make a statement or describe something that affects the future. Examples are promises, threats, refusals, offers, warnings. This study aims to examine the use of Commissive Speech Acts in the film "Inside Out 2" because this film is the latest film released in 2024 and of course there will be many new commissive sentences found in the film. The researcher analyzed the film using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data used is the script of the film "Inside Out 2". Data was collected through documentation and then entered into a tabulation as a data collection instrument. The researcher analyzed the data by watching the film while looking for types of speech in the film script and while noting what had been found. Furthermore, this study found that the film Inside Out 2 uses the most offers as one type of commissive speech act. The identification results found 55 examples of commissive speech acts, namely promises with a total of 10 data, threats with a total of 5 data, offers with a total of 21 data, and rejections with a total of 19 data.
