Abstract

The goal is to identify the problems of students in tenth grade natural science 1 to improve the quality of learning, especially for vocabulary. The teacher provides students with a worksheet contain words such as synnonim, antonym and part of speech of the words. This research is Classroom Action Research. Those were reconnaissance, planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 33 students at tenth grade natural science 1 of SMA Negeri 4 Metro. The criteria of succes determines by researcher successful if 75% of 33 students follow the learning process well and also give good responses to the teacher and if the 75% from 33 students get score 70. The research was done in two cycles and obtained the qualitative and quantitative data. The data collection instruments were observation checklists, interview guidelines, and tests. The data were in the observation checklists, interview transcripts, and scores.The result of the research showed that the use of frontloading strategy in the teaching and learning process significantly improved the students’ vocabulary mastery. the students could improve their vocabulary mastery by looking for vocabulary related to the picture given and also the picture was described then the students entered it as the KWL format which is one of the frontloading srategies. Based on the quantitative data, the students’ mean value for the vocabulary skills improved. In the pre – test, the students’ mean value was 61.96 Then, after Cycle 1 (post – test 1), the students’ mean value of post – test 1 was 68.33 . At last, after Cycle 2 (post – test 2), the students’ mean value in the post – test 2 was 86.21 . In conclusion, the use of frontloading strategy can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery significantly.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know if there are effects of teaching method and vocabulary mastery on student’s speaking skill at private senior high schools in Teluk Betung, Bandar Lampung. The sample of this research is 60 students. This research is experimental research with two factors, teaching method using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Conventional Method and Vocabulary Mastery. The data about vocabulary mastery and speaking skills are taken through tests which their validity and reliability have been tested. The researcher used SPSS Program 20 to analyze the data. The results are: experimental class (A1) has to mean score 68, it is more than a control class (A2) that has to mean score 59,97. Testing of three hypotheses used ANOVA (analysis on variants), it has got a sig. score 0,000 in communicative language teaching and vocabulary mastery got sig 0,002. It means the first hypothesis, there is a significant effect of CLT on students’ speaking skill is accepted. The second hypothesis, there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students’ speaking skill is also accepted. While the third hypothesis, there are the effects of teaching method using CLT and vocabulary mastery on students’ speaking skill is rejected.

Abstract

The people usually ignore pronunciation when speaking, telling something, discussing, singing, etc. The focus of this research is to explore the learning style of an EFL learner named Kharis  Fikril Muhorobin in practicing pronunciation. The design of this research is a case study in the form of qualitative research design. The objective of this research is finding the learning style of an EFL learner. This research was conducted on campus and in the informant's boarding house. The data were collected by using triangulation involving observation, interview, and documentation. The analysis of the data was conducted using descriptive analysis. The result shows that  the informant focused on British pronunciation. Based on the result of data analysis, it is found that there are three strategies applied by an informant in practicing British pronunciation. Those strategies are listening and practicing English songs, watching, and listening to English movies,   and reading out loud English books

Abstract

This study aimed to find types and the most dominant speech act of illocutionary acts found in Raya and the Last Dragon movie. This study utilized a descriptive qualitative method. Primary and secondary data were collected to find the answers of the problem. As in the primary data, the researcher used the movie and the movie script and in the secondary data, the researcher used a related literature or research papers to support the study. The data were analyzed in four phases; data management, data reduction, data display, and verification. The findings revealed that the movie utilized all of the illocutionary acts as many as, 92 utterances comprises 4 are declarative, 13 are representative, 27 are expressive, 32 are directive, and 15 are commissive. The result also revealed that directive speech act to be the most dominant utterance spoken by the characters in the movie and declarative speech act to be the least utterance spoken.

Abstract

The EFL professors and Zen students experienced dynamic learning during the pandemic. Thus, new scenarios in the new normal are required. This study investigates (1) what EFL millennial English professors (MEPs) and EFL Zen students (EZSs)' attitude to hybrid learning (HL), (2) why MEPs and EZSs need HL, and (3) how the MEPs and EZSs will implement the HL in New Normal. It is a survey study using a questionnaire that resulted in ordinal and content data. 174 MEPs and EZSs from diverse universities in Indonesia participated. The data were taken through online Google Forms and were analyzed descriptively based on critical success factors and criteria content analysis. The result shows that MEPs and EZSs responded positively (51.15%), neutrally (31.61%), and negatively (17.24%) to HL in EFL classrooms. The respondents think that HL is inevitable and challenging. The ratio online and offline is on-off (75:25), on-off (50:50), and on-off (25:75). The sequence of HL covers first-half all online, first-half all offline, in turn, online and offline, and in turn: offline and online. Most MEPs and EZSs (56.8 %) believe that HL is promising. The study carried out the proportional scenarios for HL; thus, MEPs and EZSs should be well prepared.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether using word square media can improve the vocabulary mastery of the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Metro. In this study, researchers conducted classroom action research (CAR) which was carried out in three cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this study were 32 students of eleventh grade at SMK Negeri 3 Metro. In collecting data, researchers used pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, post-test 3, observing, interview, and questionnaire. The results of the study show that using Word square media can improve stu-dents’ vocabulary mastery at eleventh grade of SMK Negeri 3 Metro, this can be seen in the progress of the pre-test and post-test cycle 1 to cycle 3. the average of pre-test score was 42.31% and the post-test in cycle 1 was 61.37%, the average value in post-test 2 was 75.40% and the average score in cycle 3 was 81.37%. pre-test and post-test cycle 1 to post-test cy-cle 3 there was an increase of 5.97%. it means that the results of the post test have reached indicators of success that can be achieved on the results of this post-test. Students responses in using word square media that have been done can be seen that 93.45% of students gave respones very positive in learning using word square learning media and word square media can be said to be practical and easy to use for students, this can be seen from the enthusiasm of students and their spirits at the first time in using word square media.

Abstract

Animation has many benefits such as clearer and attractivelearning, the learning process is more efficient, effective because students canrepeat it as needed, can improve the quality of learning outcomes, and can overcomethe limitations of space and time between teachers and student.This study of learningmedia in the form of animated videos will be very helpful for teachers and students asan attractive learning media and make it easier for students to learn and understandEnglish subjects, especially in speaking skill on descriptive text material. The type ofthis research are research and development (R&D). The models of this research areADDIE model. There are five steps in ADDIE model; analysis, design, development,implementation, and evaluation. Assessment on video animation by media expertsand material experts gets a percentage 79% and 82%. Students and teachers gave apositive assessment that is 82% and 96%, each assessment was in the very goodcategory.

Abstract

The research discusses about main characters in “Beauty and The Beast” Movie. Maincharacters is the figure whose story is prioritized in a literary work in question. Because thatis the most widely told character, both as the perpetrators of events and those subject toevents. The objectives of this research are to know kind of characters in beauty and the beastmovie and to explain how are the main characters described. Character in movie is the objectof this research. The main character is the subject of this research. The method of thisresearch is Descriptive Qualitative research. The result of this study are found 6 kind of characters, 2 main characters and 10characters. Kind of characters consist of protagonist, antagonist, dynamic, round, static andflat were 13 data, main characters consist of Belle and the beast and characters consist ofhumble, friendly, curious, helpful, loving, brave, struggle, angry, arrogant and feel guilty were10 data. Based on the data it can be concluded that in beauty and the beast movie only found6 kind of character and 10 characters except main characters only 2 are analyzed.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the Taboo game has an effect and significant difference on students’ English speaking ability in the beginner class at Yos Sudarso High School. The research employed a quasi-experimental design, involving a population of 73 students from the beginner class of Yos Sudarso High School academic year 2023/2024. The study conducted in experimental class which consisted of 24 students. The research instrument was an oral test, administered both before and after the treatmenn, to assess students’ speaking ability. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 20. The results revealed that the significance level (2-tailed) <0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This confirms that the use of Taboo games in teaching speaking is effective. Additionally, the independent t-test showed a significance level (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, demonstrating that teaching speaking using the Taboo game has a positive effect on improving students' speaking ability. Therefore, the research concludes that the Taboo game has a significant and positive effect on the speaking abilities of students in the beginner class of Yos Sudarso High School. The findings of this study imply that incorporating interactive activities like the Taboo game can enhance language learning outcomes, suggesting that educators should integrate similar games to improve students' speaking ability.

Abstract

Artikel ini menyajikan sebuah program pelatihan dan pendampingan bagi guru Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Kota Metro. Program ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam merancang dan melaksanakan pembelajaran yang berkualitas dan berdiferensiasi. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kombinasi antara gamification (unsur permainan) dan edutainment (pendidikan yang menghibur) untuk menciptakan proses pelatihan yang menarik, interaktif, dan efektif. Melalui serangkaian lokakarya, mentoring, dan praktik pembelajaran, guru-guru dibekali dengan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam memanfaatkan teknologi digital, mengembangkan bahan ajar yang kontekstual, serta menerapkan strategi pembelajaran yang akomodatif terhadap keberagaman gaya belajar siswa. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam penguasaan materi, keterampilan pedagogis, serta kepercayaan diri guru dalam merancang dan melaksanakan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi model bagi penguatan kompetensi guru di wilayah lain untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan secara berkelanjutan.
