Abstract

The community service activity aims to be able to help improving the ability and English language skills of children at Abepura 1 Public High School, foster a love of reading English texts / books, and also to increase children's sense of enlightenment in reading texts or books. in English language. The specific purpose of the service activities for children at Abepura 1 High School introduces the folklore text from the Dani (Wamena) tribe that has been translated into English that is suitable for the age of the high school students, which are fun and interesting, so hopefully, the love of local culture in the form of Papuan folklore would also increase. The community service activities involved several students of English Language Education Study Program FKIP, who had participated in the KBA course (Middle / High School Curriculum and Teaching Materials), where this activity was also one form of application of the learned science and theory in the course. This community service activity was held for approximately one month including the selection of Dani folklores, deepening of folklore material, making media to deliver text to children, and explaining the participants students from English Language Education Study Program FKIP UNCEN about their understanding of folklore texts given through learning media he made before going to the field, surveying the location, implementation, and results seminar. This activity is useful for deepening the knowledge of English for children in SMA Negeri 1 Abepura, Jayapura, in understanding English texts through Dani folklores so that it will enhance both the sense of mind and confidence in reading English texts and love of stories people who have culture around their environment. The use of local folklore and the creation of media used to invite children to read while learning is a valuable field experience for prospective students of English teachers in the English Language Education Study Program FKIP UNCEN in applying their knowledge and knowledge.Keywords: Reading English Texts, Children, Papuan Folklore, Jayapura

Abstract

Trash The community service activities aims at socialization of English teaching innovative for teachers in elementary school,  in Puay,  Yoka,  Jayapura in order to help the teachers in these schools in developing learning methodologies given increasing quality and thus is expected to have an impact on improving the quality of the quality of learning and quality graduates at the school. The specific objective of community service activities is to introduce teachers to some innovation in English language learning, especially to students at a very young age. Besides community service activities will involve some of the students of English language education III semester that follows the course English for Young Learner (EYL) are taught by the chairman of the operations in which the activity is also one form of the application of science and theory studied in the course. Community service activities will be carried out for approximately one month including the deepening of the material on the innovative English language teaching for students prior to the field survey locations of service activities, the implementation of service activities, and community service activities seminars results. Abstract

Flood often happens in Sentani, especially when heavy rains. Flood usually is related to people’s ignorance in preserving their environment, i.e. illegal logging, water and land pollution. Children as the future generation have to know how to respect and preserve nature. This inisiative is utilizing folklore as media to learn environmental preservation in SD Negeri INPRES Kleublouw using folktales, oral poems (ehabla) and traditional poverbs that are almost extinct. The objectives of the activities are (1) giving awareness about  the importance of preserving natural environment, (2) motivating teachers and pupils about learning using local sources, (3) encouraging revitalization of Sentani cultural heritages. Both teachers and pupils of  SDN INPRES Kleublouw were involved.  From the activity, it is hoped that Sentani children and teachers have freedom in utilizing contextual sources not only as materials of teaching-learning and but also using them as media of relearning and disseminating Sentani folkore and all the socio-cultural values embedded in them.Keywords: folklore Sentani, environment, folktale, oral poems, traditional poverbs

Abstract

Some of the problems faced by teachers in Sentani are the ability to write or express ideas in writing in general is still very low. Teachers are generally not used to writing. They lacked understanding of the rules of writing scientific papers and generally had no ideas to write. This is very related to the problem of lack of sources of information in the form of books and journals about education. Teachers have difficulty in searching references / libraries in various sources. As well as teachers experiencing obstacles in terms of sending publications. This service program aims to resolve the above problems through training activities in research methodology and mentoring to publish their work and direct the teacher to the journal to be addressed.  The method used for solutions to problems faced by teachers and to support the success of the program is in the form of lectures, question and answer, demonstrations and practice / writing. Participants who have participated in the training will immediately practice the results of the training they get and make scientific papers with the guidance of the trainers so that participants can make scientific papers well. Keywords: papers, teacher professional development, SMPN Sentani

Abstract

This community service activity aims to introduce innovative English teaching methods Storytelling in English learning to prospective English teacher students in the FKIP UNCEN English Language Study Program to be better prepared and trained in developing English learning that is able to integrate the three aspects of educational taxonomy, namely cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. In learning using Storytelling conditions, storytellers have to be more creative using the language focus in telling stories they read to students and at the same time asking questions that are able to stimulate students to think critically using the target language correctly in order to create the meaningful interaction and natural learning environment between both the storytellers and their listeners. The specific purpose of this activity is to introduce the use of Storytelling in teaching and learning English classroom in the context of the foreign language teaching and learning, and how it is managed to build a learning atmosphere to support the development of target language skills as well as learners’ critical thinking skills through classroom interaction in the form of dialogue and questions given by speakers. This community service activity involved students of the VII semester English language study program who take the Curriculum and Material Development course, conduct for about six month including the selection and deepening of the story that will be used for storytelling, a list of questions that have the potential to stimulate critical thinking skills, enrichment story material, implementation of community service activities, and seminars as a result of community service activities. This activity is useful for the readiness of prospective English teacher students in the English Education Study Program FKIP UNCEN in applying their knowledge and knowledge after completing their studies. Keywords: Critical Thinking Skills; Storytelling; Prospective English Teacher

Abstract

Abstract This community service activity aims to introduce problem solving skills to students at YPPK Santu Paulus Middle School, Abepura, Jayapura, using three problem solving learning activities namely Opinion Problem Solving, Logical Thinking Problem Solving and Information Gap Problem Solving. This is based on the finding where the average student at this school still has difficulties in understanding and solving story-shaped questions (Matthew, Lumbantobing, & Tandililing, 2016). These activity use the lecture method in the form of direct teaching/training in online classroom learning through an LMS owned by the school, carried out for one month starting from the design of learning materials and equipment, the assessment is carried out through observation and video recording, as well as filling out questionnaires via google form. related to the evaluation of class VIIIB students at YPPK Santu Paulus Junior High School, Jayapura. The results of the implementation of this service activity indicate that students understand the importance of having problem-solving skills starting from identifying problems, alternative solutions, determining the best solution logically through identifying gaps/problems and the importance of practicing expressing opinions, jointly solving problems and finding solutions in solving problems. solve existing problems. Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memperkenalkan kemampuan memecahkan masalah kepada siswa di SMP YPPK Santu Paulus, Abepura, Jayapura, melalui kegiatan belajar menggunakan tiga kegiatan pembelajaran problem solving activity dalam dua kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris Opinion Problem Solvingy, Logical Thinking Problem Solving dan Information Gap Problem Solving. Hal ini didasari atas temuan penelitian sebelumnya dimana rata-rata siswa di sekolah ini masih memiliki kesulitan dalam memahami dan menyelesaikan soal berbentuk cerita (Matius, Lumbantobing, & Tandililing, 2016). Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode ceramah dalam bentuk pengajaran/pelatihan langsung dalam pembelajarna di kelas secara online melalui LMS yang dimiliki oleh sekolah, dilaksanakan selama satu bulan mulai dari perancangan materi dan perangkat oembelajaran, penilaian dilakukan melalui observasi dan video recording, juga pengisian angket melalui google form terkait evaluasi terhadap siswa kelas VIIIB di SMP YPPK Santu Paulus, Jayapura. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa menyatakan menjadi paham akan pentingnya memiliki kemampuan memecahkan masalah mulai dari mengidentifikasi masalah, solusi alternative, menentukan solusi trebaik dengan logis melalui identifikasi kesenjangan/masalah dan pentingnya berlatih mengeluarkan pendapat, bersama-sama memecahkan masalah dan mencari solusi dalam menyelesaikan masalah yang ada.

Abstract

This community service aims to introduce English using traditional games for elementary and middle school children in Yahim Village, Jayapura Regency, where many traditional games passed down from generation that must be maintained and preserved. With the declaration of several villages in Jayapura Regency as leading tourism destinations in Papua by the Regional Government, the introduction and mastery of English has become increasingly important, as well as the love and pride of it. This activity uses the lecture method and the participation of lecturers and students in informal learning at the Rumah Baca Cybel Yahim, followed by playing together while pronouncing several target vocabulary words. This activity was carried out for one month starting from drafting, selecting, and combining traditional games into 3 learning activities. Observations of participants’ responses, enthusiasm, and ability to understand the material and produce target vocabulary, recording pictures and videos, as well as casual interviews with participants were used to analyze the implementation and results obtained. The results of implementing this activity show that almost all participants (80%) stated that learning English using traditional games was very fun and helped them understand the meaning, and how to read, pronounce, and write it. Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memperkenalkan bahasa Inggris menggunakan permainan tradisional bagi anak-anak di tingkat SD dan SMP di Kampung Yahim, Kabupaten Jayapura, mengingat Kampung ini memiliki banyak permainan tradisional yang diturunkan dari generasi ke generasi yang harus dijaga dan dilestarikan. Dengan telah dicanangkannya beberapa kampung di Kabupaten Jayapura sebagai destinasi pariwisata unggulan di Papua oleh Pemerintah Daerah, pengenalan dan penguasaan bahasa Inggris menjadi semakin penting, sekaligus mencintai dan bangga akan permainan tradisionalnya sendiri. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode ceramah dan partisipasi dosen dan mahasiswa dalam bentuk pembelajaran informal di Rumah Baca ‘Cybel,’ Yahim, Kabupaten Jayapura, Papua, yang dilanjutkan dengan bermain besama sambil mengucapkan beberapa kosakata yang menjadi target pembelajaran sebelumnya. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama satu bulan dimulai dari penyusunan, pemilihan materi ajar, dan bagaimana memadukan permainan tradisional dalam 3 kali kegiatan pembelajaran. Pengamatan akan respon, antusiasme, dan kemampuan peserta dalam memahami materi dan memproduksi kosakata target, perekaman gambar dan video, juga wawancara santai bersama peserta digunakan untuk menganalisis pelaksanaan dan hasil yang diperoleh. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan ini memperlihatkan bahwa hampir semua peserta (80%) menyatakan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan permainan tradisional sangat menyenangkan dan membantu memahami arti, cara membaca, mengucapkan, dan menuliskannya.

Abstract

The training of scientific writing is one of the efforts to develop teacher’s professionalism in SMP 2 and SMP 7 Sentani . This training aims to (1) equip teachers in writing scientific papers correctly based on the writing guidelines, (2) provide teachers the procedures of publishing scientific papers in journals, and (3) help teachers in analyzing data using SPSS software. The training used method of lecturing, discussing, demonstrating and practicing. After the training, participants practiced writing scientific papers assisted by the PKM Team. The result of the training found that the participants were satisfied indicated by the their enthusiastic presence in each meeting of the training. Supporting factors of implementation of this PKM are (1) the availability of resources of the TEAM, (2) the enthusiasm of the participants, (3) the support of the school principals, and (4) supporting funds from Kemenristek Dikti.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is the analysis of interactions between students (learner-to-learner interaction) in the context of cooperative learning through pair-group learning activities. The pair-group learning activities were provided to make sure the intense of the interaction that focus on doing the ordering, task listing, and problem solving tasks. This current research uses descriptive qualitative method by collaborating with students as the subject of this study acting as a key instrument in order to collect data as authentically as possible in the data collection of interactions that occur between students through voice recording. The results showed that the interaction occurred in within the English language education study program FKIP UNCEN are still dominated by lecturers, such as asking questions, error corrections, lectures, explained and waiting for the learners’ response, and therefore suggested to create an encouraged atmosphere of activeness and participation regarding the kinds of learning activities that "force" students to interact in smaller groups to ensure the equal opportunities to interact within the group using cooperative learning activities with a focus on ordering task, listing task, and problem solving task.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model evaluasi reflektif kurikulum rumpun mata kuliah keahlian pendidikan bahasa Inggris untuk memotret penuangan nilai-nilai karakter bangsa di dalam kelas. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan pendekatan campuran dalam lima tahap, yaitu studi awal, pendefinisian, perancangan, peragaan, dan pengembangan. Penetapan konstuk dilakukan melalui penilaian pakar, dengan subyek penelitian dosen dan mahasiswa di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang ada di DIY. Penentuan koefisien reliabilitas instrumen evaluasi menggunakan program SmartPLS Versi 2.0.M3 dan uji kelayakan model dengan program GeSCA. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan: (1) model evaluasi yang dikembangkan didukung oleh lima instrumen evaluasi; (2) validitas, reliabilitas, dan kepraktisan instrumen evaluasi telah teruji melalui kegiatan FGD, teknik Delphi, dan analisis faktor konfirmatori non-parametrik; (3) koefisien reliabilitas komposit kelima instrumen adalah sebesar 0,93; 0,91; 0,95; 0,95; dan 0,86; (4) hasil uji kelayakan model menunjukkan model didukung oleh data ditunjukkan oleh nilai GFI 0,99 dan SRMR 0,06; 5) Pedoman penggunaan model dalam bentuk panduan evaluasi.Kata kunci: pengembangan model evaluasi kurikulum, karakter bangsa______________________________________________________________MODEL OF REFLECTIVE CURRICULUM EVALUATION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN DEVELOPING NATIONAL CHARACTERAbstract This study aimed to develop a model of reflective curriculum evaluation at the English Education Study Program that portrayed the delivery of the values of national character in the classroom. This development study used mixed approach carried out in five phases:  initial study, defining, designing, demonstrating, and developing.  The constructs of instruments were developed based on expert judgments; the subjects were lecturers and students of English Language Education Study Program in four universities in Yogyakarta Special Territory. The composite reliability coefficient of the instruments was analyzed by SEM program of SmartPLS Version 2.0.M3 and test of fit model by GeSCA. The result of the study concluded: 1) the developed model evaluation was supported by five instruments of evaluation; 2) validity, reliability, and its implementation had been verified through FGD, Delphy techniques, and non-parametric confirmatory factor analysis; 3) the composite reliability coefficient of the five instruments was 0.93, 0.91, 0.95, 0.95, and 0.86; 4) the result of the test of fit model indicated that  model was supported by the data with GFI 0.99 and SRMR 0.06; 5) The guidelines of using the developed model consisted of background, rational, components of assessment, guidelines, and application sample.Keywords: developing model of curriculum evaluation, national character
