Abstract

As the K-Pop phenomenon in the world increases, there is increasing concern about physical appearance, especially oriental appearance. The phenomenon can be seen in the phenomenon of people who buy Korean cosmetics or even plastic surgery to have similarities with Korean pop stars. No exception in Indonesia, the phenomenon is also present in the community, especially among women. However, data on the behavior of Indonesian women to have similar oriental features such as Korean pop stars, especially post-pandemic, are not yet comprehensively available. Therefore, this study aims to find out how is the behavior of Indonesians, especially women, who purchase K-beauty and K-health products, legal and illegal, to improve their appearance to embrace the K-Pop beauty standard and its implications for Indonesia's political economy. This study considers that this research needs to be done to explore the behavioral political economy analysis of females from Indonesia who are looking for K-Beauty and K-Health products, legal and illegal, to improve their appearance, for a more collaborative understanding of the policy-making and education process of the public in the field of public health policy related to aesthetic beauty care or medical education for women, nationally and regionally, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Circular economy (CE) has become a priority agenda for ASEAN in recent years. In October 2021, ASEAN officially launched the Framework for Circular Economy to encourage the transition towards a more sustainable economic model in the region. However, the implementation of CE in ASEAN still faces several challenges. Firstly, there are differences in economic development levels and technical capabilities between member countries in implementing CE standards and policies. Developed countries tend to be more aggressive in setting resource efficiency targets, while developing countries require a more gradual transition. Secondly, the harmonization of CE standards is often hampered by conflicts of interest among policymakers due to political and economic pressures. Thirdly, market demand for eco-friendly products remains low in ASEAN. Fourthly, circular economic practices remain fragmented across industrial sectors and value chains. This paper aims to analyze these challenges through a qualitative descriptive approach, referring to current literature and statistical data. The analysis focuses on aspects of CE standards harmonization in the context of varying ASEAN economic development levels and global political economic dynamics. This study is expected to provide policy recommendations to overcome the challenges of implementing CE effectively and equitably in ASEAN.

Abstract

There are various ways for countries to fulfill their national interests, one of which is through diplomacy, especially in the field of sports. That's what happened at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. This sporting event was used as a way to find peace between South Korea and North Korea. This research seeks to explain how sport can act as an instrument to achieve peace. This research also aims to provide a specific picture of how sport can have a positive impact on countries in conflict, in this context South Korea and North Korea. Sports support for development and peace can be achieved because sport provides a catalyst for non-military diplomacy. Therefore, sport is seen and considered as an important social link in bilateral and multilateral relations. This research is qualitative research with a case study method that uses data collection and analysis through literature study. Data was collected and analyzed using a liberalism perspective with a functionalism approach and the concept of sports diplomacy. The result is that the success of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics has resulted in increased positive interaction between South Korea and North Korea, especially in sports partnerships.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze comparative economic diplomacy carried out by the PRC and the ROK to DR Congo as an effort to safeguard natural resources (cobalt and copper), competition, and the impact on the SDGs agenda using International Relation’s Liberalism Theory and secondary data. PRC and the ROK need to secure cobalt and copper so that their electric vehicle industry can continue to compete in the world electric vehicle market. DR Congo is the world's largest producer of cobalt and the fourth largest copper producer in the world. DR Congo's GDP is ranked 45th out of 53 African countries. Thus, DR Congo must be able to build the country's infrastructure so that its GDP can increase. PRC and the ROK, thirsty for cobalt and copper for their electric vehicle industries, are moving closer to DR Congo to secure its cobalt and copper. The economic diplomacy carried out by the PRC is a resource for infrastructure while the ROK is based on the principle of mutual benefits. Thus, PRC and the ROK get resources (cobalt and copper) and DR Congo gets the country’s development which is following several SDGs agendas. This paper answers that the economic diplomacy carried out by the PRC and the ROK to DR Congo is an attempt to secure cobalt and copper, creates a competitive environment between PRC and the ROK, and also has an impact on the SDGs in DR Congo.

Abstract

In the globalized age, freedom in capital and workforce movement, self expression, and information openness become vital, including in Asian countries like Indonesia and South Korea. Thus innovation and creativity have become an important key in recent eras. New kinds of innovation and creativity that are established by Asian countries sometimes are nostalgic policies by the previous regime of the government. Therefore, Indonesia still comes up with a kind of centralistic governance and planning with a twist of free and liberal market policy, a developmental style of New Order governance to some extent. Hence, why is developmentalism in Indonesia still relevant? Even when there are shifts in the regimes and globalization process of the world. This paper argues that the policy series that has been initiated in Indonesia under President Joko Widodo is still part of developmentalism because of the historical and political context in a broader sense on developmentalism, therefore still relevant in Indonesia. This paper also uses the South Korean case of current policy under President Moon Jae-In to compare and assign Indonesian developmentalism relevancy as South Korea can be seen as one of the successful examples of developmentalism yet liberal country.

Abstract

Abstract

Football significantly shapes Argentina's national identity, making it more than a sport. This article explores the close relationship between football and the identity of the Argentine nation, tracing its development from the early days of football in the country to its transformation into a cultural symbol and source of national pride. The study analyzed how football, through its players, clubs, and historic moments, reflects Argentina's social, political, and cultural dynamics. A qualitative approach was employed in this study, with historical and cultural analysis as the primary methods. Data sources include academic literature and media documentation. The findings reveal that football serves as a medium for collective expression, particularly in the context of class struggles and political conflicts. The success of the national team, such as winning the World Cup, is not merely a sporting event but also a milestone in fostering national solidarity. Moreover, figures like Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi have become symbols of hope and aspiration for the Argentine people. This article contributes to a multidisciplinary understanding of football’s role in shaping national identity in developing countries. The findings are relevant to cultural studies, the sociology of sports, and political science, and can serve as a model for analyzing similar relationships in other nations. Thus, this article reinforces the argument that football transcends the boundaries of sport, becoming an integral element of Argentina's national identity narrative.
