Abstract

Sayang Heulang Beach is a beach tourism area in Garut Regency, West Java. The Garut Regency Government carries out the construction and development of tourist facilities to support tourism activities and add attraction to increase the number of tourists. In the development and construction of tourist areas, it must adapt to the conditions of the surrounding environment so that its sustainability can be maintained. This study aims to analyze the suitability and carrying capacity of the area, as well as to determine the perception of the public and tourists on the condition of the tourist area of Sayang Heulang Beach. This research was conducted in December 2021 - May 2022 in Mancagahar Village, Pameungpeuk District, Garut Regency, West Java. The method used in this study is a survey method in the form of primary data collection including tourism suitability index parameters (depth, beach type, beach width, base material, current speed, water brightness, beach slope, land cover, availability of clean water and hazardous biota) and carrying capacity of the area, the perception of the community and tourists through the provision of questionnaires/questionnaires, as well as direct observation in the field. Secondary data is obtained through literature studies such as data from agencies. The results of this study indicate that the index value of the suitability of beach tourism at Sayang Heulang Beach at 3 points of the research station is 86% which is categorized (S1) very suitable for beach tourism activities. The area's carrying capacity for beach recreational activities at Station I can accommodate 529 people/day, Station II can accommodate 125 people/day, and Station III can accommodate 153 people/day. The perception of the public and tourists in the Sayang Heulang Beach area on the variables of tourism potential and development, facilities and services received a good perception according to the community and quite good according to tourists, while tourist attraction and accessibility received a fairly good perception. Keywords: Area carrying capacity; Beach tourism; perceptions; Public and tourist; Tourism suitability

Abstract

Marennine is a blue-green pigment produced by diatoms of the Haslea genus, one of which is Haslea ostrearia. This marennine pigment is water-soluble and confirmed to contain polyphenols and glycosides. There are two forms of marennine pigment: the intracellular form of marennine (IMn) and the extracellular form of marennine (EMn). Marennine pigments exhibit various biological activities such as antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, allelopathic, and inhibiting the growth of other diatoms. With this biological activity, marennine can be used in various fields, one of which is aquaculture. This research aims to determine the level of toxicity and analyze the effect of exposure to the extracellular marennine produced by H. ostrearia on the juvenile blood clam Tegillarca granosa. By using the toxicity test method, Blue water which is supernatant of H. ostrearia (BW) was tested on juvenile of commercially important bivalve species, the blood clams Tegillarca granosa, with three treatments, namely control (0 mg/L), treatment A (0.25 mg/L) and treatment B (0.5 mg/L of BW). The observation parameters of this study were LC50-72 h with one-way ANOVA analysis. The results showed that the BW produced by H. ostrearia increased the survival of juvenile blood clams T. granosa up to 27.7% in treatment B (0.5 mg/L) compared to control within 72 h. The one-way ANOVA analysis revealed that the control and treatment B (0.5 mg/L) were significantly different. This study shows that there is potential to develop the use of marennine in shellfish aquaculture.

Abstract

Coastal areas play a crucial role in sustaining marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of local communities. However, pressures from abrasion, vegetation degradation, and human activities threaten the sustainability of ecosystems. This Community Service and Empowerment program aimed to encourage direct community involvement in coastal conservation through the planting of Pandanus tectorius in Batu Hiu, Pangandaran. The methods applied were participatory approaches, including community coordination, environmental education, planting activities, and initial monitoring. The results showed the successful planting of hundreds of Pandanus tectorius seedlings in coastal areas vulnerable to abrasion, the release of 129 turtle hatchlings over three years of activities, and an increase in community knowledge about the ecological functions of Pandanus tectorius. Discussions with the community revealed the growth of collective awareness and concern for coastal conservation. This program demonstrates that marine ecotourism with a community-based conservation approach can serve as an effective strategy to protect coastal habitats while instilling environmental sustainability values.[Kawasan pesisir memiliki peran penting dalam menjaga keberlanjutan ekosistem laut dan kehidupan masyarakat.

Abstract

Rhizophora stylosa mangrove contains secondary metabolite compounds with antioxidant potential, including those produced by endophytic bacteria within its bark tissue. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity and secondary metabolite content of endophytic bacteria. The methods used include exploration and experimentation, with qualitative data (isolation, identification, mass culture, phytochemical tests) and quantitative data (total phenolic content and antioxidant activity). Endophytic bacteria were isolated from the bark of R. stylosa, cultured in bulk, and extracted using liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate. Phytochemical tests were conducted to detect secondary metabolites, while total phenolic content was determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and measured with a spectrophotometer at 765 nm. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method at 500 nm and analyzed through linear regression to determine the IC50 value. Three isolates were obtained: RS1 (Gram-positive, cocci), and RS2 and RS3 (Gram-negative, bacilli). Phytochemical tests showed that all isolates contained triterpenoids, flavonoids, and phenols, while tannins were only present in RS1 and RS2. The highest phenolic content was found in RS3 (193.8431 mgGAE/g). IC50 values were 111.86 ppm (RS1, moderate), 82.01 ppm (RS2, strong), and 90.68 ppm (RS3, strong).
