Abstract

This research is one of study about morphometric-meristic of lais danau fish (Ompokhypophthalmus) in two different habitats, Tapung river and Siak river. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference between morphometric and meristic of male lais danau fish and female lais danau fish in Tapung river and Siak river. This research was conducted on January-March 2014. As many as 60 fish (consisting of 30 males and 30 females) were collected every month for each loacation. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS Version 16. Morphometric characters of lais danau fish in Siak river, are smaller than the males and females of lais danau fish in Tapung river. The growth status of lais danau fish for each location of the research are positive allometric, negative allometric, and isometric. T-test showed that morphometric between male lais danau fish and female lais danau fish for each location of the research were significant different. Meristic of male lais danau fish and female lais danau fish for each location of the research were not significant different.

Abstract

DNA isolation is a process to obtain pure DNA. The total DNA isolated includes nuclei and cytoplasm DNA (mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA). The total DNA can be used as stock for further genetic diversity analysis. Scientific information on genetic diversity of selais fish in Indonesia, particularly in Riau is still limited. One of the dominant species of selais fish in Riau is Ompok eugeneiatus. The research was conducted to obtain the total DNA of selais fish which can be used as a template DNA for genetic diversity analysis. The research had been conducted from December 2013 to May 2014 and the study site was located in Kampar Kiri and Indragiri Hulu rivers, Riau Province. Ten samples were isolated from each river. The DNA isolation process used isolation and purification kit (Qiagen DNeasy Blood & Tissue brand). The DNA isolation process was conducted based on the existing protocol. The total DNA were then migrated on 1% agarose gel and then visualized using UV transluminator. This research obtained the total DNA from each selais fish samples of Ompok eugeneiatus from the Kampar Kiri and Indragiri Hulu rivers with different quantity. The total DNA obtained were not fragmented.

Abstract

ewline"> Simbad lake was formed naturally from the input of Kampar river overflowing water during flood season and its tributaries. Simbad lake have been affected by various people activities eg. plantation. This research was aimed to study the diversity of plankton and also its relation with water physical–chemical factors in Simbad Lake. Sampling was conducted at date of 16 February and 16 March 2014 using purposive method considering environmental condition. The result showed that the composition of plankton during sampling in February consisted of 47 genera which were divided into 26 genera of phytoplankton and 21 genera of zooplankton. Meanwhile, during sampling in March it consisted of 35 genera which were divided into 21 genera of phytoplankton and 14 genera of zooplankton. The abundance of plankton from February to March within phytoplankton was dominated by Bacillariophyceae, while zooplankton was dominated by Branchiopoda. The diversity index for phytoplankton and zooplankton sampled in February were range from 0,16-1,21 and 0,01-0,15, respectively. Furthermore, the diversity index for phytoplankton and zooplankton sampled in March ranging from 0,9–1,25 and 0,02–0,12. Physical – chemical factors of water that most affect the diversity value of plankton in Simbad Lake is the current speed.

Abstract

The study on stomach content of lais panjang lampung fish (Kryptopterus apogon) in Mentulik village of Kampar Kiri River and Kota Garo village of Tapung River was conducted from October 2013 to March 2014. This study aimed to observe the stomach content of lais fish which were categorized into main food, supplement food, and additional food, as well as to determine the ratio of the length of gut toward total body length. The method used in this study was a survey method. The analysis indicated that the food which had the highest value in index of preponderance in both stations based on the type of food and sex was those of animal debris. Furthermore, analysis on the ratio of the length of gut towards the total body length showed that the length of gut never exceed the total body length. Based on the analysis of index of preponderance and the ratio of the length of gut towards the total body length, lais panjang lampung fish (K. apogon) was considered carnivorous.

Abstract

This study was aimed to found puffer fish species belong to Tetraodontidae family from the estuary waters of Bengkalis Riau Province. Sampling was conducted from September 2012 to June 2013 at estuaries of Pakning, Bengkel and Jangkang rivers. We found seven species of puffer fish belongs to Tetraodontidae, they were grouped into 4 genera. Those fishes were Tetraodon nigroviridis, Tetraodon fluviatilis, Sphoeroideslunaris, Sphoeroides oblongatus, Chonerhinos amabilis, Chonerhinos sillus and Chelonodon patoca. The most abundant species is Tetraodon nigroviridis (25 individuals), while Chelonodon patoca one individual.

Abstract

Total DNA molecule and fragment of the mitochondrial D-loop region is needed to determine the nucleotides sequence of mitochondrial D-loop region from lais danau fish (Ompok hypophthalmus). Therefore, this study aimed to isolate and amplify mitochondrial D-loop region that can be used as genetic information resources of O. hypophthalmus. The samples of O. hypophthalmus were taken from flood plain river in Riau, Kampar River. Tail muscle of O. hypophthalmus was used for DNA isolation. DNA molecules were amplified using PCR machine with L15926 and H00651primers. The total DNA of O. hypophthalmus was obtained in this study. The amplification process produced 153 bp fragment mitochondrial D-loop region of O. hypophthalmus.

Abstract

Fish of Lais Panjang Lampung is one of the unique fish from Pekanbaru and has high economic value but currently become endangered. This study was aimed to examine aspects of Lais panjang Lampung (Kryptopterus apogon) reproduction which include the development of gonads, gonad maturity index, sex ratio, spawning season, and spawning patterns. This study was conducted from October 2013 to March 2014 at Kampar Kiri River and Tapung. The number of fish obtained were 324 individuals with 124 males and 200 females. Total length and body weight of male and female fish ranged from 19 to 38.2 cm (31.13 to 209.06 g) and 20.5 to 33.4 cm (30.02 to 158.06 g), respectively. Sex ratios between male and female fish were 1:1,6. The males and females with TKG IV were commonly found in March (22.22%) and October (15.15%), respectively. Furthermore, the highest IKG of males and females fish were found in October, they were 0.066% and 0.5595% respectively. Fecundity of K. apogon ranged from 7294-35.742. Spawning patterns of Lais Panjang Lampung fish (Kryptopterus apogon) is a total spawner.

Abstract

Ompok hypophthalmus is a freshwater fish which lives flood plain river. Siak river is one of flood plain river in Riau province. Siak river is very valuable for Pekanbaru people for household to industrial purposes. The household and industrial activity may cause the decrease of water quality. The contaminated water affects the living things in this area, such as O.hypophthalmus fish. Therefore, it is necesarry to detect the water quality decrease by observing the intestine structure of O.hypophthalmus. This study aimed to find out the histological structure of intestine tissue of Ompok hypophthalmus, especially which lives in the Siak I and Siak II bridge. This study was conducted from January to April 2014. Histological slide of O.hypophthalmus intestine were made using paraffin method and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). The results showed that the intestine parasite infections was found in O.hypophthalmus, as well as lymphocyte stacking, villous unification, epithelium lysis, and lamina propria widening. The tissue damage in intestine might be due to the content of heavy metal above the normal standard.

Abstract

This study aims to find out histological condition of kidney tissue of selais fish (Ompok hypophthalmus) from Siak river. Kidney samples of the fish were collected from two stations, namely Siak I Bridge in Okura Village, District Rumbai Pesisir and Siak II Bridge Tampan Village, District Payung Sekaki. Histological slides with 6 μm thickness of the kidney samples of selais fish were made using paraffin method and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). The kidney tissue of selais fish showed damages such as swelling of the glomerulus (12%), swelling of proximalis tubules cells (9.6%), swelling of loop of henle cells (6.5%), swelling of distal tubules cells (10.7%), swelling of macula densa cells (15.8%), a fatty of proximalis tubules cells (9.7%), a fatty of loop of henle cells (3.5%), a fatty of distal tubules cells (11.6%), congestion (6.15%) and necrosis (2.7%). Kidney tissue damages of selais fish occurred were allegedly affected by the heavy metal presence in the water of the Siak river.

Abstract

This research was aimed to asses morfometric parameters of digestive tracts especially intestine and stomach of Parang-parang fish (Chirocentrus dorab Forskall 1775). This study was conducted from June to August 2012. The samples were collected using survey method. Fish samples were 76 individuals collected from fisherman in Bengkalis, Riau Province. Parameters which measured were the total body length, length of intestine, fish weight, and stomach weight. Data were analyzed using linear regression which consist of the ratio between stomach weight and fish weight with totalbody length, length of intestine with total body length, ratio between intestine length and total body length with total body length and ratio between weight of intestine and fish weight with total body length. The result indicated that parang-parang fish was considered as carnivorous fish based on the length of its intestine, i.e 0,32-0,43 times of its total body length for male fish and 0,33-0,39 times of its total body length for femalefish. Total body length of parang-parang fish was positively correlated to its intestine length and ratio between intestine length and total body length.
