Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the determinants of poverty, unemployment, and income inequality in Siak Regency for the period 2014–2023 using OLS multiple linear regression with time-series data from BPS. Three models were tested: (1) poverty was influenced by HDI and economic growth rate (LPE); (2) TPT by PDRB ADHK, poverty, and HDI; (3) Gini Index by GDP ADHK and APS. The results showed that HDI had a significant negative effect on poverty (? = ?0.1108; t = ?2.56; p = 0.038; R² = 50.11%), while LPE was insignificant (p = 0.728). The unemployment model was simultaneously significant (F = 6.18; p = 0.0288; R² = 75.56%), although the variables were not significant partially, with coefficients consistent with theoretical expectations. The inequality model was significant simultaneously for GDP and APS (F = 108.65; p = 0.000; R² = 96.88%); autocorrelation was addressed using Prais–Winsten AR(1). All models met classical assumptions (Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Breusch–Pagan heteroscedasticity test, VIF < 10 for multicollinearity). The findings confirm that Siak’s capital-intensive economic structure inhibits inclusivity, with HDI as a key instrument for poverty alleviation, unemployment reduction, and inequality mitigation. Recommendations include diversification toward labor-intensive sectors, local industry–based vocational education, and redistribution of GDP through village funds

Abstract

Aquaculture-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) often struggle with limited technology, weak management, and high production costs. This program aimed to strengthen the capacity of aquaculture MSMEs through the application of biofloc technology and semi-natural spawning techniques in catfish culture. The intervention was carried out with the “Maju Bersama” Community Business Group (KUBE) in Industritenayan, Pekanbaru, under the Community Development Program (Desa Binaan) of Universitas Riau. Methods included counseling, training, workshops, demonstrations, and mentoring on hatchery techniques, grow-out management, and entrepreneurship. Program evaluation was conducted using a participatory approach, measuring improvements in skills, seed production, and system sustainability. Results showed increased knowledge and skills of the target group in catfish breeding and farming. The establishment of a hatchery unit enabled independent seed production, reducing dependence on external suppliers and lowering costs. Biofloc systems improved feed efficiency, water quality, and survival rates. These outcomes demonstrate that integrating aquaculture technology with business capacity building can be an effective model of community empowerment. The program contributed to income generation, MSME independence, and supported Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to decent work and economic growth.

Abstract

Riau Province is one of the five largest contributing provinces to Indonesia’s exports, with Malaysia serving as the primary destination country within ASEAN. Animal and vegetable fats and oils constitute the largest commodity exported to Malaysia. This study aims to examine the influence of inflation, the exchange rate, and Malaysia’s GDP on Riau Province’s exports of animal and vegetable fats and oils to Malaysia during the quarterly period of 2010–2024. The data used are secondary time-series data, and the analytical method employed is multiple linear regression using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) technique, with EViews 12 as a statistical analysis tool. The independent variables in this study include Riau Province’s inflation, the Rupiah–US Dollar exchange rate, and Malaysia’s GDP, while the dependent variable is Riau Province’s exports of animal and vegetable fats and oils to Malaysia. The partial results show that inflation has a positive and insignificant effect on these exports. The Rupiah–US Dollar exchange rate has a negative and significant effect, while Malaysia’s GDP has a positive and significant effect on Riau Province’s exports of animal and vegetable fats and oils to Malaysia. Simultaneously, the findings indicate that all independent variables collectively influence these exports
