Abstract

This study aimed to determine the growth rate and protein content in Nannochloropsis oculata, Chlorella vulgaris, Spirulina platensis were cultured using agricultural fertilizers. The agricultural fertilizers used were Urea, ZA and TSP. Each single cell protein was cultured using the three types of fertilizers with a ratio of Urea: ZA and TSP as follows (A) 1: 2: 1 [(10:20:10 g / L)], (B) 2: 2: 1 [(20:20:10 g / L)] and (C) 3: 2: 1 [(30:20:10 g / L)], respectively. The results showed that the best ratio of Urea, ZA and TSP fertilizers to growth of Spirulina, Nannochloropsis oculata and Chlorella vulgaris was C [30:20:10 (g / L)] treatment. However, phyto-protein content in Nannochlorophsis differed significantly between fertilization treatments, C fertilization yielded the highest protein content (28.75±0.05%), when compared with A (25.13±0.01%) and B (25.14±0.02%), respectively. In Chlorella vulgaris, all fertilization treatments showed very significant differences, B fertilization (28.24%±00.006) yielded the highest phyto-protein content, if compared to A (23.63% ± 0.003) and C (19.74% ±0.006 ), respectively. All fertilization treatments showed very significant differences (P <0.05) on Spirulina platensis. The highest content of phyto-protein (62.68 + 0.05%) was present in treatment C, when compared to A (52.18 + 0.05%) and B (62.37 + 0.01%) treatments, respectively.

Abstract

Artificial or natural anesthetic ingredients are needed in the transportation of live fish, because fish must be physiologically alive and healthy to their destination. Durian leaf is one of the natural ingredients that can be used as anesthetics in transport because it contains secondary metabolites such as saponins, tannins and flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective concentration of durian leaf infusion as catfish anesthesia during transportation on induction and sedative time, blood glucose profile and survival rate. Fish with an average weight of 185,62 ± 9,06 g in 3 L of water with different concentrations of durian leaf anesthetics are used to determine the status of fish fainting. A complete randomized design (CRD) with four treatments (5%, 15%, 25%, and 35% durian leaf infusion concentrations) and three replications were applied in this study. The results of this study indicated that the best concentration obtained was 35%, with an inductive time of 9 min.19 sec. and a sedative time of 1 min.42 sec. The survival rate of catfish in the best treatment was 88.89%, with a blood glucose level of 63.23 mg/dL.

Abstract

The effect of preset periods of unfed-fed cycle on growth, feed efficiency and body condition indices of humpback grouper, Cromileptes altivelis was studied. The fish receiving non-feeding/feeding cycle of 1/2 day (T1); 1/2 and 3 days alternately (T2); 1/3 day (T3); were compared to that fed daily as a control (C). Each feeding treatment was assigned to five fiberglass tanks according to a completely randomized design. All fish was weighed to obtain final weight gain at the end of the experiment. Feeding rate (FR) was calculated during feeding period throughout the experiment. At the end of the experiment all fish was weighed to obtain final fish weight. Absolute growth rate (AGR); survival; consumption; cumulative feed consumption, and feed conversion efficiency (FCE) were calculated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and Tukey test (P<0.05). The results showed that humpback grouper Cromileptes altivelis receiving preset unfed-fed cycle elicited compensatory growth and the fish showed hyperphagia and greater feed conversion efficiency.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to improve the competence of fish feed manufacturing and can increase fish sales production. The approach method carried out in this activity is a participatory Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach starting with a survey and problem identification, socialization and counseling training on making fish meal, training and direct technical guidance on making feed formulations, and assistance in making fish feed. The result of this dedication is that partners know the technology of making feed using available and abundant ingredients so as to reduce production expenditure in fish farming. Counseling and training activities in community service received good enthusiasm from members and partners of direct participants in making fish feed. The result of service activities is that partners gain knowledge and skills in making independent fish feed from waste and local raw materials. Making independent feed is able to increase production profits by reducing production costs incurred. The potential for developing activities can encourage productivity and provision of skills that can be disseminated to the wider community.
