Abstract

Vibriosis disease caused by Vibrio bacteria is one of the main challenges in vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming, as it can cause high mortality rates and decreased productivity. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a combination of natural immunostimulants in turmeric (Curcuma longa) and garlic (Allium sativum) combined with hydrolysis of fish peptides in suppressing Vibrio spp. bacterial populations in the hepatopancreas organs. The study was conducted for 30 days using a completely randomised design of four treatments and three replications. Treatment A (feed+turmeric75%+garlic25%+fish peptide hydrolysis2%), Treatment B (feed+turmeric50%+garlic50%+fish peptide hydrolysis2%), Treatment C (feed+turmeric25%+garlic75%+fish peptide hydrolysis2%), and Treatment K (feed without immunostimulant and fish peptide hydrolysis). Total Vibrio spp. bacteria were counted using the total plate count method on the hepatopancreas organ of the shrimp. The results showed that the immunostimulant combination of turmeric 75%, garlic 25%, and fish peptide hydrolysis 2% (treatment A) significantly reduced the total number of Vibrio spp. bacteria in the hepatopancreas to 2.45 ± 0.213 log CFU/ml compared to the control. The combination of turmeric and garlic immunostimulants and fish peptide hydrolysis has the potential to be an effective natural strategy in controlling vibriosis disease in shrimp farming.

Abstract

Guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata) is a popular ornamental fish because of their unique color patterns, the color of ornamental fish will fade if their feed does not contain enough pigmentation to keep them bright. This study aimed to determine the effect of adding Spirulina sp. powder with different dosage to the feed on the color brightness of guppy fish. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments (feed added with Spirulina sp. powder as much as 0%, 0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, and 1.2%) and three replications. The test fish were male HB Red guppy fish with a size of 3 cm and a density of 3 fish/aquarium. Water changes (siphoning) was done every morning, and feeding was done twice a day. The parameters observed in this study were the chroma value, survival rate, and water quality. The result showed that the effect of adding Spirulina sp. powder to the feed at a dose of 0.9% and 1.2% had a significant effect on the color brightness. The survival rate indicates that the outcomes were not significantly different between treatments from a 100% success rate. The adding of Spirulina sp. powder increases the brightness of Guppy fish. The brightness color is very important in the Guppy fish farming, because color is the main indicator in ornamental fish. The water has a good quality, with an average temperature of 25.8-26°C and a pH of 7.9-8.0.

Abstract

Guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata) is a type of ornamental fish that is in great demand, because of its small size and beautiful color. The color of ornamental fish will generally fade, due to a lack of carotenoids in their feed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving Tubifex sp. in commercial feed to increase the color intensity of guppy fish and the best dose of Tubifex sp. The test fish used were male guppy fish strain HB Red. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) method with five treatments and three replications, that is commercial feed with the addition of Tubifex sp. with doses of 0% (P1), 2% (P2), 4% (P3), 6% (P4), and 8% (P5). Parameters observed were color intensity (chroma value), survival, and water quality. Addition of Tubifex sp. in commercial feed gave the effect with the highest yield on P5 at a dose of 8%, with an increase in color intensity (chroma value) of 4,21±0,25d. At P1 it gave an increase of 1,19±0,02a, P2 was 1,34±0,04a, P3 was 1,81±0,21b, and P4 was 2,88±0,18c. So, the best treatment is P5 (8%). Survival showed the results were not significantly different, that is 100%. Water quality is included in the tolerance limit of fish with the results of temperature 26,6 – 27,4°C, pH 7,4 – 7,9, and DO 6,2 – 7,7 mg/L.

Abstract

The oxygen consumed is used to oxidize food substances to produce energy. Therefore, the metabolic rate is usually indicated by the rate of oxygen consumption per time unit. In most intensive aquaculture systems, oxygen content is widely used due to the high stocking density and maximum feeding rates. This study aimed to evaluate the growth performance of freshwater pomfret (Colossoma macropomum) treated with increased oxygen in two different systems. The study was conducted in a laboratory scale by applying T-test data analysis. The difference of treatment level applied in the comparison of aeration and microbubble consists of two treatments and three replications. The researcher used commercial floating pellets PF0 with 25% protein content, the feeding rate was 5% of the biomass. The feed was given daily during the culture for two times a day. Data of the study were analyzed using T-test on the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) software Version 17.0. Results of the study showed that aeration system using microbubble resulted in dissolved oxygen (DO) of 6.5 ± 0.17, 100% pomfret fish survival rate (SR), Survival Growth Rate (SGR) of 1.83 ± 0.24, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of 1.37 ± 0.17, Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) of 2.79 ± 0.37, Feed Utilization Efficiency (FUE) of 0.67 ± 0.09, Absolute Weight Growth of 52.02 ± 1.60; it was better than using aeration. This study has developed a model of freshwater pomfret fish aquaculture to provide growth value.

Abstract

Heavy metals are widely known pollutants with bioaccumulative nature, so they can be transferred and accumulated in biota, such as mullet fish (Planiliza subviridis). The heavy metals Cd and Cu have different anthropogenic and natural sources. Heavy metals have the potential to absorb existing biota such mullet fish. Fish absorb metals from the water in the body through gills, skin surface and food. This study aims to identify Cd and Cu metals in distribute water, sediment and mullet fish in the Plawangan Timur, Segara Anakan lagoon, Cilacap, Central Java, and the relationship between aquatic media and sediment and mullet fish. The study used a research method with a targeted random sampling method at five stations with four replications. The survey was conducted from April to September 2020. Descriptive data analysis, F-test, regression and correlation. The results showed in water, sediment and mullet fish the heavy metal content of Cd and Cu varied between stations. The correlation between the Cd and Cu metals in water, sediment and mullet fish showed a positive correlation. The content of heavy metal Cd in mullet fish media in Plawangan Timur Segara Anakan Cilacap has exceeded the specified quality standard, while for heavy metal Cu in mullet fish is still below the specified quality standard.
