Abstract

The pituitary gland of broiler chickens (Gallus sp.) is empirically known to have gonadotropins to accelerate ovulation in fish. This research was conducted to determine the reproductive performance and survival of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) Larvae of adult male and female mature gonads by 20 pairs. This study used a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications to obtain 20 experimental units. Doses of pituitary extract used is without injection of pituitary chicken pituitary extract (P0), injection of pituitary chicken pituitary extract with a dose of 600 mg/kgbb (P1), 900 mg/kgbb (P2) and 1200 mg/kgbb sangkuriang catfish (P3). Intramuscular injection of extracts in the ventral dorsal fin with a volume of 0.5 mL/kgbb. Descriptive data analysis for gonad maturity level, ovulation response, egg performance. Statistical analysis of data for morphometric aspects using the Wilcoxon test, for latency time, relative fecundity, fertilization success, hatching success, and larval survival aspects using One Way Anova using SPSS version 25. The results of statistical analysis showed significant differences in reproductive performance (relative latency and fecundity time), successful fertilization and successful hatching of eggs, but there was no significant difference in survival (number of live larvae, length and weight) larvae of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.). Broiler chicken pituitary extract (Gallus sp.) can improve reproductive performance, fertilization and hatching success but does not affect egg performance and survival of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) larvae. Abstract

The antioxidant contained in kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) leaves has been known to be able to prevent animal tissue damages. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a food additive substance associated with histological damage of duodenum as well as increases secretion of HCl in stomach if consumed in excess amount. This study aimed to investigate the histological features of stomach and duodenum of monosodium glutamate-induced mice (M. musculus) after treated with kersen leaves extract, as well as establishing its optimum dose. This study used a Completely Randomized Design, with 25 male mice assigned to 5 treatment groups: 2 control groups i.e. negative control (K-) given aquades and positive control (K+) given 0.7mg/body weight MSG; and 3 intervention groups which were given kersen leaves extract as much as 0.075 mg/g bw (P1), 0.15 mg/g bw (P2) and 0.3 mg/g bw (P3). Both kersen leaves extract and MSG was administered orally once daily for 28 days. The parameters observed were histological features of stomach features (erosion of villi and inflammatory cells infiltration) and duodenum (erosion of villi, necrosis, and inflammatory cell infiltration). The results showed that all parameters observed in the aforementioned organs were significantly different (P<0.05) in intervention groups (P1, P2, dan P3) compared with positive control (K+). It is concluded that administration of kersen leaves extract improved the damages of stomach, duodenum, and liver of MSG-induced mice, and was best achieved at the dose of 0.3 mg/g bw.

Abstract

Meloxicam adalah obat anti inflamasi nonsteroid (NSAIDs) yang diberikan pada manusia dan hewan untuk mengobati peradangan paling banyak diresepkan. Penggunaan meloxicam yang tidak sesuai dengan ketentuan dosis dan dalam jangka panjang akan menimbulkan efek toksisitas dari meloxicam. Meloxicam dapat memicu stress oksidatif dan memiliki mekanisme kerja menghambat sintesis prostaglandin yang dapat mempengaruhi proses regulasi hormonal dan fungsi reproduksi jantan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis potensi ekstrak etanol daun kelor (Moringa oleifera) terhadap kualitas spermatozoa dan kadar hormon testosteron jantan tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan yang diinduksi Meloxicam. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan jenis (RAL) Rancangan Acak Lengkap terdiri dari tiga perlakuan dan dua kontrol dengan 6 ulangan. Pemberian perlakuan dilakukan selama 35 hari. Meloxicam diberikan dosis 8,4 mg/kg BB dan ekstrak etanol daun kelor dosis 200 mg/kgBB/hari (P1), 400 mg/kgBB/hari (P2), dan 600 mg/kgBB/hari (P3). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun kelor dosis 400 mg/kgBB dan 600 mg/kgBB berpotensi meningkatkan berat organ reproduksi, motilitas, viabilitas, jumlah spermatozoa, dan meningkatkan kadar hormon testosteron secara signifikan (P<0,05).
