Abstract

Tanaman hias merupakan semua jenis tanaman yang bermanfaat untuk menambah keindahan baik di dalam maupun di luar ruangan. Minat masyarakat terhadap tanaman hias semakin meningkat, sehingga usaha tanaman hias merupakan usaha yang dapat meningkatkan penghasilan. Desa Taruna SOS adalah nama panti asuhan di Banjar Bunur Puhun, Desa Bantas, Kecamatan Selemadeg Timur, Tabanan, Bali. Panti asuhan ini terdiri dari 12 rumah yang mengasuh anak-anak yang kehilangan pengasuhan orang tua dan anak-anak yang miskin. Untuk meningkatkan skill anak-anak panti asuhan sehingga dapat membuka bisnis, maka dilakukan pelatihan pembibitan tanaman hias. Metode yang digunakan terdiri dari metode ceramah, praktek dan diskusi yang meliputi pengenalan jenis-jenis tanaman hias, pengenalan berbagai media tanam dan pemeliharaan. Kegiatan diikuti oleh pembina panti asuhan, tenaga sukarelawan di SOS dan anak-anak SOS Desa Taruna. Tanaman yang ditanam adalah tanaman hias daun Tradescantia sp, Calathea sp, Sansevieria sp., sirih gading belanda, serta tanaman bunga pukul sembilan (Portulaca sp) dan bunga ruwelia (Ruellia malacorperma).

Abstract

Smoking habits have been around since ancient times, but nowadays this habit is considered to be detrimental, especially to health. The impact that is often felt by smokers is difficulty in breathing because the lungs are exposed to cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke contains about 1015-1017 oxidants or free radicals, as well as 4700 harmful chemicals, including aldehydes / carbonyls, NO2, and SO2. Herbal cigarettes are tobacco cigarettes with added ingredients from plants. Gurah terapi sin cigarettes are herbal cigarettes that are sold commercially. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of gurah cigarette smoking on the leukocytes and lung histology of mice. This study used a comparative method consisting of 3 groups, namely the control was not exposed to cigarette smoke, treatment 1 was exposed to commercial cigarette smoke and treatment 2 was exposed to cigarette smoke with herbal ingredients and each group consisted of 10 replications. The results showed that there were significant differences (p <0.05) regarding the number of cell necrosis, type II pneumocytes, inflammatory cell infiltration, hemorrhage, and alveolar dilation. While the results of the analysis of the number of leukocytes showed no significant difference where p > 0.05. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the number of leukocytes in the control group, treatment 1 and treatment 2 (p > 0.05). herbs containing various kinds of antioxidants cause a tendency for differences in the number of leukocytes where there is a decrease in the number of lymphocytes and neutrophils and an improvement in the histopathological structure of the lung against type I pneumocyte cell necrosis, hemorrhage, alveolar dilation, type II pneumocyte cell proliferation, and inflammatory cell infiltration in exposed mice. commercial cigarette smoke without herbal ingredients.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of given robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) leaf extract on the spermatozoa quality of mice (Mus musculus L.) exposed to cigarette smoke. The experiment was using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and each consisted of six mice as replications. Each treatment was K- (without exposure to cigarette smoke), K+ (exposure to cigarette smoke + 0.5% Na-CMC), P1 (exposure to cigarette smoke + Robusta coffee leaf extract at a dose of 60 mg/kgbw), P2 (exposure to cigarette smoke + Robusta coffee leaf extract at a dose of 120 mg/kgbw) and P3 (exposure to cigarette smoke + Robusta coffee leaf extract at a dose of 180 mg/kgbw). On the 36th day, mice were taken down by anesthesia and followed by surgery to collect spermatozoa. The parameters for this observation were the concentration, motility, viability, morphology, and integrity of the spermatozoa membrane. The data obtained were analyzed statistically with One Way Anova and further tested with DMRT. The results showed that the treatment of robusta coffee leaf exstract in mice exposed to cigarette smoke had a significant effect (P<0,05) on the quality of spermatozoa.

Abstract

Danau Batur saat ini sudah mulai tercemar akibat tingginya beban pencemaran yang masuk ke perairan disebabkan oleh aktivitas masyarakat di sekitar danau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kerusaka struktur histologi hati, insang, dan lambung, ikan nila serta mengetahui jenis logam berat yang terdapat di perairan Danau Batur. Penelitian ini menggunakan 5 titik lokasi pengambilan sampel ikan nila. Sampel dibuat sayatan histologi organ dengan metode embedding dan analisis logam berat dengan Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Hasil skoring pada insang luar, diperoleh kejadian patologi berturut-turut hiperplasia, edema lamela sekunder, dan fusi lamela paling berat 25% pada 4 lokasi, 18,7% pada lokasi 5, dan 25,00% pada lokasi 2. Pada insang dalam menunjukkan berturut-turut hiperplasia, edema lamela sekunder dan fusi lamela paling berat dengan frekuensi masing-masing 25,00% pada 4 lokasi, 25,00% pada lokasi 5, dan 25,00% pada lokasi 4. Lambung ditemukan kerusakan berupasel kariolisis, infiltrasi sel radang, dan desquamasi epitel. Histologi hati menunjukkan adanya kariolisis, karioreksis, dan degenerasi melemak. Konsentrasi logam berat di organ hati terdeteksi Fe dengan konsentrasi paling besar 3,96 ppm pada lokasi 2 dan Cu dengan konsentrasi paling besar 0,7 ppm pada lokasi 5. Ditemukannya kerusakan organ serta adanya logam berat, menandakan bahwa perairan Danau Batur mengalami pencemaran oleh aktivitas manusia di sekitar danau. Lake Batur is currently starting to be polluted due to the high pollution load enters into waters which caused of the people activities around the lake. This study aims to observe the histological structure damage of the liver, gills, and stomach, on the tilapia fishes, as well as to determine heavy metal types found in the Batur Lake water. This study was carried out 5 points of Batur Lake. The fish samples were prepared histological section by using the embedding method. Heavy metals were determined by using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The scoring on the external gills showed there were pathological occurrences of hyperplasia, secondary lamellae edema, and lamellae fusion with most severe frequency of 25% at 4 locations, 18.7% at location 5, and 20% at location 2 respectively. Internal gills showed hyperplasia, secondary lamellae edema and most severe lamella fusion with most severe frequency of 25% at 4 sites, 25% at location 5, 25% at location 4 respectively. The stomach damaged were karyolytic cells, inflammatory cell infiltration, and epithelial desquamation. Liver histology showed karyolysis, karyorrhexis, and fatty degeneration. The heavy metals Fe and Cu were detected in the liver with Fe with the highest concentration of 3.96 ppm (Fe) at location 2 and 0.7 ppm (Cu) at location 5. The discovery of organ damages and the presence of heavy metals on the tilapia fish body indicated that Batur Lake water has been polluted by human activity around the lake.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui gambaran histologi hepar mencit jantan (Mus musculus) yang diberi ekstrak buah juwet (Syzygium cumini) pada filter rokok kretek sebagai peluruh radikal bebas pada asap rokok. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental murni (true experimental) dengan pendekatan post test only control group design. Data hasil penelitian diuji statistik menggunakan SPSS 21.0, hasil uji Shapiro Wilk  menunjukan data terdistribusi normal dengan nilai p>0,05, selanjutnya dilakukan uji homogenitas yang hasilnya menunjukan data homogen, dengan nilai p< 0,05. Setelah itu dilanjutkan dengan uji Anova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mencit yang diberikan rokok kretek  memiliki hasil yang signifikan dengan kelompok kontrol sebesar 5,78±1,64 dimana sel nekrosis dan perlemakan hati lebih banyak terjadi pada mencit yang diberikan rokok kretek dibandingkan dengan yang tidak diberikan rokok kretek. Pemberian filter ekstrak juwet pada mencit jantan yang terpapar asap rokok menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan menurunkan jumlah nekrosis dan perlemakan hati, hal ini ditunjukkan dari hasil uji statistic nilai p<0,05 dimana kelompok kontrol tidak menunjukan perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan filter ekstrak juwet . Pada penelitian ini filter rokok ekstrak buah juwet (Syzygium cumini) dapat menurunkan nekrosis dan perlemakan hati pada mencit jantan. (Mus musculus) yang terpapar asap rokok.

Abstract

Advances in molecular biology has brought a new branch of multidiscipline study named biotechnology. To comprehend the complex nature of concepts in biology, practical and hands-on approaches are often required. This activity was a collaboration between Biology Teachers Working Group (MGMP Biologi) in Klungkung Regency with university as the facilitator, and aimed to train senior high school biology teachers in compiling learning modules as well as supplying them with the appropriate materials required in simple practical sessions, such as those in animal physiology and reproduction, as well as biotechnology. The event was held successfully, attended by total of 20 biology teachers from six senior high schools (SMA) in Klungkung District, Klungkung Regency, started by introductory lectures and followed by practical sessions on how to perform mice vaginal and sperm smear, human blood smear, and DNA extraction of plant tissues. Abstract

Community service for PKK members and youth organizations at the Samsara Living Museum, Jungutan Village, Karangasem, Bali aimed to assist preserve ceremonial plants which include ornamental plants and coconuts of various types and the introduction of blue tea from Clitoria ternatea and turmeric drink for the use of medicinal plants. The initial method was carried out with a site survey to take an inventory of plants at the service location, then socialization with participants was carried out through poster presentations and then continued with the practice of plant nurseries and making blue tea and taste testing of herbal turmeric and tamarind drink. Based on the results of the implementation in the field, most of the participants were new to the existence of blue tea which is beneficial for health because it contains antioxidants. The vegetative propagation of ornamental plants with high economic value such as aglonema, Sanseviera and red betel was very interesting for the participants to increase the effort of propagation of ornamental plants that could be done easily. The introduction of some coconuts such as Mulung coconut which can be used to maintain the body's immunity during a pandemic. The turmeric and tamarind drink helps stamina during the pandemic and can also be tried by participants and has been used as a 'welcome drink' for visitors to Samsara. Some PKK members have tried to grow eggplant and chili vegetables in their yard and are interested in increasing ornamental plants for entrepreneurial activities to motivate other PKK members.
