Abstract

Vegetable waste that is not utilized causes an unpleasant odor effect and disturbs the aesthetics of the environment, wet waste thrown away can become a breeding ground for insects. One of the waste utilization methods is the manufacture of fish pellets. The purpose of this study is to utilize household vegetable waste used for fish feed pellets. The research design used was a pre-experimental design with a posttest only research design. The object of this research is vegetable waste originating from household activities. The treatments used were 3 variations of vegetables (20%, 30%, 40%) repetition which was carried out 3 times with a concentration of 1 kg. Making fish pellets using a machine that has been modified as a supporting tool for making pellets. The pellets produced were subjected to laboratory tests to determine the water content, ash content, fat content, crude fiber content, protein content referring to SNI (01-4087-2006) concerning catfish feed regulations. The results showed that from variation 1 (20%), variation 2 (30%) and variation 3 (40%) none of them met the Indonesian National Standard with water content, ash content, fat content, and protein content. crude fiber still does not meet because it is still under the provisions of SNI. It was concluded that there were no pellets made from vegetable waste that met the stipulation value of SNI. The percentage that can be reviewed for the formulation is that the percentage of shrimp head flour can be increased to 20% and the fine bran can be reduced to 40%. For the community, it can be useful to overcome the problem of vegetable waste being dumped directly into the surrounding environment without any processing of the vegetable waste to be used as fish feed pellets.

Abstract

Residual chlorine is a residue from the chemical compound chlorine, which is used as a disinfectant in swimming pool water. When in contact with the eyes, these chemicals can cause conjunctiva inflammation, known as conjunctivitis. Symptoms include redness, swelling, pain, and itching in the eyes. Research purposes analyzing the effect of residual chlorine content in swimming pool water on complaints of eye irritation in swimming club members. The type of research used is analytical observational with a cross-sectional approach. The research subjects were visitors to swimming pools in the Surabaya area using purposive sampling. The data collection techniques were questionnaire sheets, observations, and laboratory results. Data analysis used the Spearman Correlation test. The results showed that water pH was a protective factor for residual chlorine in swimming pool water with a value of (PR < 1), and Alkalinity was a protective factor for residual chlorine in swimming pool water with a value of (PR < 1). There was no influence of residual chlorine on complaints of eye irritation with a value (pv = 0.602). It is recommended that swimming pool managers install information boards that guide swimming pool cleanliness and ethics. They have added soda ash to stabilize the pH. Future researchers can examine other factors that influence complaints of eye irritation and residual chlorine content.

Abstract

Environmental health is a critical factor in preventing vector-borne diseases in hospitals. The Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo General Hospital in Mojokerto City has implemented a vector control programme in accordance with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Regulation No. 2 of 2023. However, monitoring results indicate that the larval index (LI) remains below the standard threshold of ≥95%, while rodent and cockroach densities exceed the established limits. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the vector control programme using the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product). The research method used was qualitative descriptive with SWOT analysis. Data were collected through observations and interviews with sanitation officers in 32 hospital service units. The evaluation results showed that the context, input, and process aspects met the requirements, with each receiving high scores. However, in the product aspect, weaknesses were still found in mosquito and rat population control. Based on the SWOT analysis, the programme is in the aggressive strategy quadrant, which emphasises the utilisation of internal strengths and external opportunities to improve vector control effectiveness. Key recommendations include expanding programme coverage to areas outside the hospital, strengthening the involvement of internal health workers, and modernising the technology-based monitoring system. With the optimisation of these strategies, it is hoped that the vector control programme will be more effective in maintaining environmental health standards in hospitals.
