Abstract

Teluk Lerong Ulu Village has the highest population density compared to six other villages in Sungai Kunjang District, Samarinda City, and with dense settlements and minimal yard land. Innovation in cultivating horticultural crops can create sustainability, land use efficiency, meet daily food consumption, and increase the income level of residents if cultivated intensively. If horticultural crops are done intensively and become a culture in an environment, the environment becomes a beautiful and resilient environment. This community service program aims to be a form of synergy between the world of higher education and the community by increasing community insight and skills by cultivating horticultural crops in the yard using plastic waste. The method of implementing activities is in the form of extension activities and practices on the cultivation of horticultural crops by utilizing plastic waste as a place to grow crops. In this activity, the community can take advantage of a narrow yard by planting horticultural types and can use plastic waste as a planting medium, so that people will easily get food, especially vegetables needed by households, and can reduce household expenses in terms of buying vegetables.

Abstract

Nutgrass is a common weed often found in agricultural fields. Its high population in agricultural land can have negative implications for farmers as it may prevent farmed crops from growing and producing as well. However, nutgrass has the potential to be developed into a biopesticide due to its phytochemical compounds. The purpose of this study is to identify secondary metabolite compounds present in nutgrass extract. On nutgrass extracts, the study used phytochemical screening techniques with ethanol (polar) and n-hexane (non-polar) solvents. According to the findings, ethanol and n-hexane solvents produced nutgrass extract yields of 10.81% and 0.65%, respectively. Alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids were all present in nutgrass extracts made with ethanol, whereas only steroid components were present in extracts made with n-hexane. Saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and steroids are only a few of the secondary metabolite substances found in nutgrass extracts.

Abstract

Weeds frequently present challenges in agricultural settings, leading to crop damage and diminished yields.  The size of the current weed population is often closely linked to these issues.  The primary factor at play is the competition between crops and weeds for space, nutrients, and light essential for growth.  Given that weeds are considered undesirable, their control represents a significant area of focus.  A method to assess effective weed control strategies involves vegetation analysis, offering insights into weed distribution and density.  The data aids in formulating an effective control strategy to reduce the adverse effects of weeds on oil palm yield. This investigation seeks to analyze the composition and structure of weeds, as well as evaluate the efficacy of weed control measures on ex-burned land.  This study employs field surveys to catalog the types and quantities of individual weeds, alongside vegetation analysis to assess weed structure through relative density, frequency, and dominance metrics. The findings revealed a total of 275 distinct weed compositions, encompassing 15 species across 10 families.  The prevalent weed species identified included Eleocharis dulcis, Paspalum conjugatum, and Fimbristylis miliacea.  The density, frequency, and dominance values of these three weeds were notably high.  The weed diversity index in the peatland was measured at 2.13, indicating a high classification.  The approach to weed management involves an integration of both physical and chemical techniques.

Abstract

Jackfruit seeds are a food source that contains carbohydrates, protein, fat, and minerals such as phosphorus, iron, and calcium. Jackfruit seeds can be used to make powdered milk. Milk has many functions and benefits, including preventing osteoporosis and keeping bones strong. Milk is essential for children's bone development. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding maltodextrin and sucrose on the physicochemical and organoleptic properties of milk powder made from jackfruit seeds. This study used a completely randomized factorial design, with the first factor being the addition of maltodextrin at 3, 5, and 7% and the second factor being the treatment of sucrose at 2, 4, and 6%. Each treatment was repeated three times. The results indicated that the interaction between maltodextrin and sucrose treatments had a significant effect on moisture content, protein, fat, and phenolic content but did not significantly affect the organoleptic tests for color and taste. The single factor of sucrose addition had a significant effect on the organoleptic tests for color and taste. The best treatment for making jackfruit seed milk powder was at 5% (maltodextrin) and 4% (sucrose), resulting in moisture content (8.95%), protein (4.98%), fat (4.34%), and phenolic content (105.80 mgGAE/g). Meanwhile, jackfruit seed powder milk with the most preferred organoleptic characteristics was produced with the addition of 6% (sucrose), resulting in organoleptic characteristics of color 5.02 (somewhat liked) and taste 6.02 (liked).

Abstract

Brondolan is an oil palm fruit that is separated from spikelets because it is too ripe during harvesting activities. Apart from that, brondolan is part of the fresh fruit bunch which produces maximum quality Crude Palm Oil (CPO). The aim of this research is to analyze losses from harvesting activities in the form of oil palm fruit stalks. The research method is to carry out quantitative and descriptive analysis. Loss of brondolan fruit during palm oil harvesting activities from the research sample was 10% of the sample block area in the disk area, pickle market area and yield collection area (TPH), amounting to 16,946 Kg/month of the total Kg/division oil palm fruit production. This occurs because the fruit is abandoned or left behind as a result of weak supervision and poor maintenance or maintenance activities in the plate area, pickle market area and TPH area which are not controlled by the growth of weeds, kentosan, this has an impact on the potential loss of 3,2% of total TBS production in the division.
