Abstract

The information received by Santries from various sources regarding infectious diseases in Pondok Pesantren’s environment is still confusing, which causes the Santries to be confused about finding reliable sources of information for their own health. They have sought this information through various sources. The purpose of this study is to determine who is the primary source of dissemination of health communication information related to Clean and Healthy Behavior and the health communication process within the Islamic boarding school in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative research method; then, the final results presented the health communication pattern among Islamic Boarding School in Sukabumi Regency. A case study approach was used in this study. The unavailability of updated, relevant data shows that the Central Government is still not actively moving towards the success of the PHBS Program at the national level in general and the education level of Islamic boarding schools in general. The difference between the provisions of the central government and the teachings of the Islamic religion that is applied in the Islamic Boarding School environment is one of the obstacles to implementing PHBS at the education level. The health information available in the mass media cannot be used by Santries to obtain information related to health. This research concludes that health information from Kyai’s teachings are the primary sources of health information in the Pesantren environment, supported by health information written in the Al- Quran and Al-Hadiths. Santries can receive health information outside the Pesantren environment through medical personnel, mass media, and information from the school. Suggestions from this research are  PHBS counseling for Kyai and Santries according to national health standards under the guidance and supervision of the Ministry of Health.

Abstract

This study explores stakeholder participation in waste management communication in Bandung City, which frequently faces waste emergencies. Despite the government's implementation of various waste management programs, the issue remains unresolved. Effective waste management requires active collaboration among all stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, media, and community leaders. Using a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative case study approach, this research examines the roles of government entities (Bandung City Environment Agency, PD. Kebersihan, and Bapelitbang), non-governmental actors (Forum Bandung Juara Bebas Sampah/BJBS, including environmental activists, academics, and business representatives), as well as media and community leaders. Informants were purposively selected based on their involvement in waste management efforts. Findings reveal that collaboration occurs between the government, legislators, and grassroots environmental activist groups, such as BJBS, which directly engages in waste management initiatives. However, from a pentahelix collaboration perspective, effective communication requires greater involvement of mass media, both conventional and digital. Currently, waste management communication relies mainly on social media accounts with limited reach, such as Humas Bandung, Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kota Bandung, and Forum BJBS. This limited engagement hinders public awareness and participation. To achieve a sustainable solution, public involvement and awareness must be strengthened, ensuring that waste management is a shared responsibility rather than solely the government's duty.

Abstract

Trust is a key element in the effectiveness of the mental health counseling process, especially in reaching millennials who have unique characteristics in terms of values, communication, and expectations of psychological services. This study aims to identify and analyze effective strategies counselors use in building trust with millennial clients. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was obtained through in-depth interviews and observations with professional counselors who are experienced in working with clients aged 20-35. The results revealed four main strategies used consistently, namely: (1) empathic and authentic communication, (2) the use of storytelling and personal narratives, (3) the application of inclusive and culturally sensitive language, and (4) the use of digital media as an initial medium for building trust. The findings confirm the importance of cultural competence and adaptation of counseling approaches to the social and technological dynamics faced by the millennial generation. Practical implications of this research include the need for more contextualized counselor training, as well as the development of service policies that accommodate relational and digital approaches in modern counseling practices.

Abstract

The issue of mental health among adolescents is becoming increasingly significant in the educational and social realms, as many adolescents face emotional distress without the support of a safe space to understand and manage their feelings. This study aims to explore the application of health communication principles in adolescent counseling practices, both by practitioners in formal settings such as schools and non-formal communities. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with three informants, namely a community mental health activist, an academic in the field of counseling guidance, and an adolescent who acted as a counselee. Findings from thematic analysis show that health communication is not only used to convey educational information, but also to build interactions that are empathic, participatory, and in accordance with the context of the counselee's life. The practice is realized through the use of familiar language, supportive gestures, and easy-to-understand analogies, such as "a tank of emotions" or "a body that asks for help." Communication is understood as a medium of recovery that allows for emotional validation, psychosocial assistance, and space for personal reflection. The results of this study confirm that health communication principles can enrich the adolescent counseling process, especially in strengthening trust and encouraging a deeper recovery process. This approach deserves to be developed in community-based counseling services that are adaptive to the emotional needs of today's adolescents.
