Abstract

According to data collected from Midwifery Clinician Tri Utami Sari S.SiT Manyaran Semarang in 2022, injectable contraceptive users ranked first when compared to those using pills, condoms, IUDs, and implants. However, the use of 1-month injections is more common than 3-month injections. One of the factors is that the Fertile Spouse knowledge about 3 months of injectable contraception is still low, and the lack of support of the husband. This matter means that the use of 3 months of injective contraception is still small, approximately 300 of the 1240 participants. This cross-sectional study determined the correlation between a mother's knowledge and the use of a one-month injectable contraception. The study's population included a woman of fertile age who received a 1-month injectable contraception at the Midwifery Clinician Tri Utami Sari, S.SiT Manyaran. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique to gather a sample of 50 respondents. The Spearman rank correlation test found a p-value of less than 0.029, indicating no correlation between mother knowledge and one-month injectable contraception at Midwifery Clinician Tri Utami Sari S.SiT Semarang in the year 2023.

Abstract

The use of Maternal and Child Health (KIA) books for toddlers at Posyandu Melati 2 in 2023 falls short of the national target of 85%. This low usage rate raises concerns about potential negative impacts on the health of children under five. Cadres play a crucial role in promoting maternal and child health by providing guidance and encouragement regarding the use of KIA books. This study aims to assess the correlation between cadre support and the utilization of KIA books among mothers of toddlers at Posyandu Melati 2 from April to May 2024. A cross- sectional analysis was conducted with a total population of 57 mothers of toddlers, using a total sampling technique. Data on maternal characteristics, cadre support, and KIA book usage were collected through a survey with a questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square method with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results indicated that only 10.5% of mothers used the KIA books properly, and 28.1% received good support from health workers. The analysis revealed a significant correlation between cadre support and the use of KIA books, with an odds ratio (OR) of 6.5 and a Fisher Exact Test result of p = 0.046. These findings highlight the importance of cadre support in enhancing the use of KIA books among mothers of toddlers, suggesting that increased support could improve usage rates and potentially benefit child health outcomes.

Abstract

A Caesarean section, or C-section, is a surgical procedure where a baby is delivered through an incision made in the mother’s abdomen and uterus. To aid the healing of post-Caesarean wounds, mothers need not only antibiotics but also a diet that provides high-quality nutrition and adequate calories. The research question being investigated is: "Do Age, Parity, Education, and Occupation Affect the Healing Process of Post-Caesarean Wound Stitches?" This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a Post-test Only Control Group Design. The study population includes mothers who had a C-section at Pemalang Hospital. Participants were divided into two groups: 49 received catfish extract tablets (the experimental group), and 49 received standard wound care (the control group). Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling techniques. Data were analyzed through both univariate and bivariate methods. The results showed a p value of 0.000 for the experimental group and 0.046 for the control group (both p values < 0.05), indicating that catfish extract tablets significantly influence the healing process of post-Caesarean wound stitches..

Abstract

KIPAS counseling model (Intensive, Progressive, Adaptive Counseling toward Structure) as a culturally-based counseling approach rooted in the Indonesian archipelago, relevant to the nation's context. It presents the essence of the Indonesian human being through philosophical perspectives, psychological schools (humanistic, psychoanalytic, behavioristic), and Islamic views. The KIPAS model is positioned as an integrative solution to the challenges of multicultural counseling practices, emphasizing the importance of adaptive counselor personalities and a deep understanding of local culture, as well as counselees who possess inherent potentials that can be developed progressively. This paper asserts that the KIPAS approach is not only culturally responsive but also offers a practical and philosophical framework to enhance the effectiveness of counseling services in Indonesia. The strength of this model lies in the depth of local values that are comprehensively integrated into the counseling process.

Abstract

Birth canal laceration is the second cause of bleeding after uterine atony, which occurs in almost the first delivery and sometimes also in subsequent deliveries. In 2020 in the Maranggen 1 Health Center working area, there were 1013 deliveries, with 43.3% experiencing perineal lacerations. For this reason, an intervention is needed to prevent perineal lacerations, one of which is perineal massage which can increase perineal elasticity. The perineal massage can collaborate with VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil), where VCO contains variety of natural moisturizers and antioxidants that are important for skin care. In addition, it is relatively inexpensive and can be made at home. This study aims to determine the effectof perineal massage using VCO toward birth canal lacerations on mothers with normal delivery. This study used a quasi-experimental type using post-test only control group design. The study population was all pregnant women with gestational age starting at 37 weeks in the working area of the Mranggen I Health Center Demak. The sample was 60 respondents consisting of 30 control and 30 intervention groups. Meanwhile, the data was collected using observation. Data analysis consisted of univariate and bivariate analysis of the Chi-Square test technique. The results showed that perineal massage using VCO affected birth canal lacerations in normal delivery in the working area of the Mranggen 1 Health Center Demak (p-value 0.000 <0.05).

Abstract

Postpartum lower back pain is a common complaint among women after childbirth, often caused by changes in posture, weight distribution, and muscle strain during pregnancy and labor. The pain can significantly affect a mother's ability to perform daily activities and care for her newborn. In Indonesia, as reported by various studies, a substantial percentage of women experience persistent lower back pain postpartum, with many seeking alternative therapies to alleviate their discomfort. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of using an abdominal binder (bengkung) and herbal compress balls in reducing postpartum lower back pain. The abdominal binder has traditionally been used to support the abdominal muscles and lower back, promoting proper posture and reducing strain on the spine. Similarly, herbal compress balls, which contain natural ingredients known for their anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing properties, are often applied to relieve pain and promote healing in postpartum women. The study's quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group provided valuable insights into the combined impact of these two interventions. By comparing the results of the intervention group, which received both the abdominal binder and herbal compress ball, with the control group, which only received the abdominal binder, the researchers were able to identify the additional benefits of the herbal compress ball. The significant reduction in lower back pain, as indicated by the Mann-Whitney test (Z-value of -4.060, p < 0.05), suggests that the combination of these two therapies is more effective than using the abdominal binder alone. The results of this study have important implications for postpartum care. By incorporating non-pharmacological interventions such as abdominal binders and herbal compress balls, healthcare providers can offer more accessible and holistic pain relief options for new mothers, helping to enhance their comfort and recovery during the critical postpartum period.

Abstract

Breast carcinoma, commonly known as breast cancer, is a type of malignancy that occurs in the milk-producing ducts and sacs of the breast. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in Indonesia, after lung cancer. One of the early steps in detecting breast cancer is through breast self-examination (BSE). Although BSE can help detect lumps or abnormalities in the breast, many adolescent girls are unaware of how to perform this examination or its importance. One reason for this is the lack of education regarding the correct method and the significance of performing BSE regularly. Therefore, an effective educational approach is needed, such as peer education, where peers provide information to their fellow students about the importance of self-breast examination. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of a peer education program on improving adolescent girls' knowledge of BSE. This research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study consisted of female students from grades X and XII at SMK Nurul Islami Semarang, with a sample of 35 students selected through simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire that included questions about the students' knowledge of self-breast examination. The results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, which showed an Asymp Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning there is a significant effect of the peer education program on increasing adolescent girls' knowledge of BSE. The findings of this study suggest that peer education is an effective method for raising awareness among adolescent girls about the importance of early breast cancer detection, thus encouraging them to perform self-breast examinations more regularly.
