Abstract

Jambon, Ponorogo, Jawa Timur.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze Ibn Khaldun's (1332-1404) thoughts on education and relate them to the pragmatic-instrumental perspective initiated by John Dewey (1859-1952), especially to become the basis for innovation in contemporary Islamic education. This study is a qualitative study with data sources from the library. This study concludes that Ibn Khaldun's thinking has educational goals, output, processes and content that overlap with pragmatic education initiated by John Dewey. Another important thing is that the relationship of thought between the two shows that educators and managers of Islamic educational institutions do not need to feel unfamiliar with the instrumental pragmatism approach which is government policy and society's demands. However, as Ibnu Khaldun did, they can formulate innovations in education according to the context of the needs of the times and the basis of Islamic epistemology.

Abstract

This study aims to capture the extent to which cultural elements play a role in the media "Aljazeera Learning Arabic" and the portion of its use at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. This study is qualitative descriptive research aimed at analyzing the educational media "Aljazeera Learning Arabic" from a cultural perspective. The research object is the media "Aljazeera.Learning.Arabic," with data collected through participatory observation and written documents from the website. The analysis techniques employed include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that this media consists of three main levels: “al-mubtadi'” (beginner), “al-mutawassith” (intermediate), and “al-mutaqaddim” (advanced). Each level includes several learning themes, which incorporate cultural elements to help students improve their language skills. These cultural aspects are proportionally varied across the levels. At the “al-mubtadi'” level, cultural themes constitute only 36%, while at the “al-mutawassith'” level, they account for 47%. At the “al-mutaqaddim” level, cultural themes dominate, comprising 55% of the total themes. This indicates that cultural content becomes more prominent as the learning level progresses.

Abstract

This article talks about orientalism. Orientalism is a scientific tradition and discipline that examines all matters relating to the East from a Western perspective. Unfortunately, the Western perspective and framework that is superior to the inferior East influences most of the results of the study. The author uses the criticism of Maryam Jameelah and Edward Said in seeing how Orientalism works. Both figures were chosen because of their unique religious, ethnic and racial background. Both have felt the atmosphere of life in the East (Palestine and Pakistan) and also in the West (America). Therefore, they are expected to be able to provide comments and views related to how Orientalism works. At the end, the author lists the attitude of the East man in addressing the results of the study of the orientalists, namely with a critical receptive attitude and not trapped with a receptive and rejective attitude through all results of study.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative research by collecting data from multiple sites that discuss the importance of learning the Arabic language for the people of Indonesia. Top 5 sites with those keywords are Rumaysho.com., BelajarIslam.com, Islampos.com, Kompasiana.com., and kiblat.net. From those five sites will be analyzed with the Yasir Suleiman’s language and religious identity perspective which shows that language has a function as an instrument of communication and also, a symbol of identity. This study found that stereotyping against the Arabic language makes it even more exclusive and closed to non-Muslims in Indonesia. Learning the Arabic language itself is not limited to the religious orientation, but making it as a function of language itself, as a medium of communication. Arabic language has been ‘sacred’ with its strategic position in political, economical, ideological, and academic field.

Abstract

Abstract

In 2018, the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) reported that nine of the ten least atheist-friendly countries are Muslim-majority states, with the death penalty for apostasy and atheism cited as a key indicator. Despite such restrictions, surveys have suggested the presence of atheist identities in Saudi Arabia, although these figures are likely underestimated due to fear of persecution. This study examines the trajectories of conversion from Islam to atheism in a Muslim-majority country that applies Islamic law, focusing on Saudi Arabia during the period 2000–2022. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research relies on document analysis of state policies, international reports on religious freedom, and the writings of Abdullah al-Qasimi as a representative intellectual case. The findings indicate that restrictive religious governance, social control, and exposure to alternative ideas—particularly through digital media—contribute to the emergence of religious doubt and the formation of atheist identities among segments of Saudi society. The study also shows that strong religious socialization, combined with perceived injustice and limitations on freedom of belief, may intensify skepticism toward religious authority. These results suggest that discriminatory state policies may unintentionally foster intellectual resistance and curiosity toward atheistic ideas. By linking state policy, social conditions, and intellectual transformation, this study contributes to the sociology of religion by offering a new perspective on how structural constraints within highly conservative Islamic states shape trajectories toward atheism.
