Abstract

Indonesian students struggle with abstract science concepts, as reflected in their low performance in international assessments. The primary learning resource is still textbook, and their visual materials are significant in helping students understand abstract concepts, especially in chemistry. However, visuals are often underutilized in science education. To address this gap, this study analyzes visual representations in Indonesian chemistry textbooks of the 2013 Curriculum to inform future improvements aligned with Indonesia’s 2025 educational goals. Two widely used textbooks for grades X and XII were examined to explore differences across grades. Using qualitative content analysis and a modified rubric, the study reveals that symbolic visuals that have explicit surface features (such as chemical formula and equations) dominate, while macroscopic and sub-microscopic visuals are underrepresented. In relation to the text, most visuals are completely related with the content but not directly referred to in the text, which may hinder students’ understandings. Positively, most visuals are contiguous (positioned close to the related text) with the related text and categorized as either with-caption or incorporated into text. These findings highlight gaps in textbook design, such as overreliance on symbolic visuals and poor visual-text integration. To support deep learning, textbooks should include multi-level visuals, ensure direct referencing, and provide clear captions. These changes are essential for fostering deeper understanding and aligning with Indonesia’s 2025 educational goals, offering insights for improving textbook quality. Abstract

The use of bioactive plants to replace antibiotics is now widely used. The program's purpose is to provide a solution for natural feed additives to laying hens in Ngaliyan as a substitute for Antibiotics Growth Promotor (AGP), which is prohibited by the government, and provide knowledge to farmers about the use of medicinal plants to improve the productivity of livestock. The target was laying hens farmers in Ngaliyan. The problem was chicken feed is made without AGP and egg prices fell while feed prices had risen. The solution offered to the partner was adding food additives from turmeric and Curcuma. Turmeric and Curcuma will improve immunity to increase livestock productivity, feed efficiency, and egg quality. Based on this reason, we conducted community services for laying hens farmers in Ngaliyan. Community service activities were carried out using the PAR method for two months through socialization, training, assistance in providing additional natural feed, and evaluation. Giving turmeric and Curcuma flour can improve the quality of eggs. The result of the community service showed an understanding of partners to formulate and produce feed additives in raising laying hens was improved. In addition, farmers were able to formulate and produce herbal feed based on requirements.

Abstract

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by acetylcholine hydrolysis that impairs cognitive brain function. This research aims to determine the interaction and dynamic of ligands from Moringa oleifera on AChE through Lipinski's Rule, ADMET properties, molecular docking calculations, and molecular dynamic simulations. Lipinski's Rule calculation provided ligand limits that adhere to druglikeness properties. ADMET results also showed that several ligands satisfy ADMET properties. Pterygospermine has lower binding energy than the ligand control (-10.28 kcal mol-1) with amino acid residues of TYR133 and GLU202. It indicates a favorable interaction between the AChE receptor and ligand in the inhibition process. Based on molecular docking calculations, pterygospermine inhibits the AChE receptor at the Long, narrow aromatic gorge active site. According to molecular dynamic simulations, the MMPBSA energy for pterygospermine is 37.377 kJ mol-1. The samples showed a total average RMSD of 2 Å, suggesting no significant conformational changes throughout the simulation. The sample's average RMSF value is around 2 Å, suggesting favorable interactions with the receptor during simulation. However, this data is different from the ligand control interaction mode. Molecular dynamic investigations of the pterygospermine ligand in the complex revealed the stability and unfolded effect on the protein. The results of this study propose a candidate anti-Alzheimer's ligand from Moringa oleifera against the AChE receptor. In practice, these results can contribute to research studies exploring natural ingredients from plants with medicinal potential in drug discovery. These results can be validated using further research in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract

Collaboration and communication are essential 21st-century skills. Observations and interviews suggest that these are among students in science learning are still not fully developed. This study aims to analyze the differences in collaboration and communication skills between the experimental and control classes and examine the relationship between these two skills through implementation of the Self-Organized Learning Environment (SOLE) model, integrating thinking actively in a social context (TASC). The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The study groups being a pretest–posttest control group involving two seventh-grade classes (VII G and VII H), selected through cluster random sampling. Research instruments included validation sheets, questionnaires, and observation rubrics. The data analysis techniques employed included the homogeneity test, the normality test, the independent sample t-test, and the correlation test. The findings revealed significant improvements in collaboration and communication skills in the experimental class compared to the control class (p < .05). Pearson correlation analysis further indicated a very strong positive relationship (r = .854; p < .05) between the two skills in the experimental class. These results suggest that integrating the SOLE-TASC is effective in enhancing students’ collaboration and communication skills in science learning compared to conventional instruction.
