Abstract

Background: Fungal skin infections are prevalent in developing countries, with dermatophytosis and tinea versicolor being the most prevalent. The KOH test is a practical and easy-to-do examination for diagnosing superficial fungal skin infections on an outpatient basis. Skin scraping is the most known method for collecting samples for KOH testing, but some studies have shown that cellophane tape is also used for a more patient-friendly approach. Purpose: This study is aimed at comparing KOH examinations using cellophane tape and skin scrapings. Methods: This research is a diagnostic test study with a cross-sectional approach. The research data were obtained from 51 medical records of skin patients at Dr. Soedirman Kebumen Municipal Hospital with the diagnosis of tinea cruris and tinea corporis who underwent KOH examination with cellophane tape and skin scrapings. Data correlation was analyzed using the Chi square test.  Result : From the research, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference between the use of cellophane tape and skin scrapings in the KOH test sampling for tinea cases (p = 0.153), which indicates that there was no significant difference between the use of the two methods for the diagnosis of dermatophytosis. Conclusion: The tapping method as an alternative method of skin scraping for KOH examination can be used to establish the diagnosis of dermatophytosis.

Abstract

Marriage is not merely the completion of half of one's religion, a Sunnah of the Prophet that his followers should carry out, but also to produce a superior generation, both in character and deeds. Individuals who are about to marry should have a foundation of knowledge to build a harmonious family, Sakinah mawaddah warohmah (a harmonious family). However, in reality, most individuals are preoccupied with pursuing careers to meet the demands of life, but on the other hand, they do very little to prepare themselves to build a family. As a result, families are formed based solely on acquired experiences without knowing what is right or wrong or what is ideal. Consequently, many family problems arise, such as divorce, family disputes, juvenile delinquency, drug use, and others, which often break our hearts. Motivated by these issues, the School of Parenting Keluarga Samara (Creating a Harmonious Family, Shaping a Superior Generation) online program aims to provide a foundation for young families or future parents to build a strong and harmonious family and to produce a superior generation. The training is conducted with participants joining a WhatsApp group. Subsequently, participants receive structured material online through Zoom meetings. Pre-tests and post-tests are conducted before and after each material delivery. Alhamdulillah, the results of this activity have had a positive impact on the community, as the pre-test and post-test results show a significant difference between before and after participating in the activity, with a significance level of 0.000 (p<0.05). The post-test results show better results compared to the pre-test.

Abstract

Abstract

Background of choosing the subject: In recent years world society including Indonesia tend to consider the use of herbal medicine - back to nature. The advantages of herbal medicine become an interesting discussion. Most information expand in society is empirical rather than scientific evidence. Thus red betel vine's benefit also becomes interesting discussion but evidence based medicine about it is very little. The purpose of this study is to know the potency of antibacterial power of ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) toward gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Research Methodology: This research was laboratory experimental study. The extract of red betel vine was made with standard ethanol solvent. This extract was examined in Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35218. Experimental method is serial dilution. Result was analyzed descriptively with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The examination in each bacterium was repeated 5 times.  Result: The result shown that ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) has ability to inhibit the growth of Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and to kill it on  concentration 25%. While the ability to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli (Gram negative) on 6,25% (visual observation and after has been planted in Mc Conkey media). From result repetition in 5 times, gram negative is more stable rather than gram positive.  Conclusion: The ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) has antibacterial effect toward Gram positive and gram negative. MIC and MBC Staphylococcus aureus  at 25% while for MIC and MBC Escherichia coli at 6,25%.Keywords: antibacterial   –  Red betel vine  –  Piper crocatum  –  Staphylococcus aureus  – Escherichia coli

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a significant nutritional challenge in Indonesia. If malnutrition in children is not addressed appropriately, it can lead to stunting. Children under five years old with pediatric tuberculosis (TB) are particularly susceptible malnutrition. Specific interventions are needed to prevent stunting in this vulnerable group. Objective: The study aimed to improve the nutritional status of children with pediatric TB to prevent stunting. Methods: This study included 44 children under five years old with pediatric TB, who were patients at a private hospital and clinic. The subjects were divided into four groups of 10-12 children based on their arrival for treatment. Group A received standard medicine, F-100, and pure honey; Group B received standard medicine and F-100; Group C received standard medicine and pure honey; and Group D received only standard medicine. The F-100 and pure honey were administered once daily. Each group was followed up for six weeks. Weight and height were measured before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed with a 95% confidence level. Results: Administration of F-100 and/or honey significantly increased Z scores for height-for-age, weight-for-age, and weight-for-length/height between the pre-test and post-intervention (p < 0.05). Conversely, no significant improvement was observed in children receiving only standard medication (p > 0.05). The differences in Z score increases between groups, however, were not statisticallysignificant. Overall, the intervention reduced the prevalence of wasting (36.4% to 22.75%) and stunting (36.4% to 29.5%)Conclusion: Supplementation with F-100 and honey improved nutritional outcomes but did not show statistically significant differences between groups. Further research is recommended to explore the effects of increased frequency and duration of supplementation.
