Abstract

Lumajang is one of the regency in East Java Province that has various types of freshwater ecosystems and have great potential as habitats for various insects, especially dragonflies. Dragonflies are insects that mostly live aquatically, so their existence is highly dependent on the condition of aquatic ecosystems. This study aims to compare the composition and diversity of dragonfly species in various habitat types in Lumajang. The study was conducted in lentic and lotic ecosystems in Lumajang. The method used was the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) technique adapted from the sweeping net. The data analysis used to determine differences in dragonfly species composition was the Bray-Curtis similarity analysis, while diversity analysis was conducted using the Shannon-Wiener index. This study recorded 29 species from seven families, including seven endemic dragonfly species found only on several islands in Indonesia. In the analysis of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, the results show that in all research locations have a value of H'= 1.07‒2.11, where the Rice Field habitat is the location with the highest value among other locations, with a value of H' = 2.11. The similarity analysis of dragonfly species composition using Bray Curtis similarity showed that it was divided into three groups. The composition of dragonflies found in several habitats in Lumajang is different, which can be influenced by many factors such as site elevation, habitat type (lentic or lotic), and habitat condition, as well as several other factors such as microclimate and vegetation (related to food availability).

Abstract

Fruit flies are important pests of citrus crops. Identifying fruit fly species is very important to make the appropriate conclusions in determining controlling methods. This study was intended to establish the dominant species, diversity index, and identification of fruit fly species in Siam citrus (Citrus nobilis Lour.) orchards in Dau District, Malang Regency, Indonesia. This study was conducted in two habitat types: close and far from residential areas. Six petrogenol-treated traps were placed at each location from December 2022 to February 2023, and every two weeks, the fruit flies caught in the traps were counted as part of the survey. The results showed that three species, namely B. dorsalis, B. carambolae, and B. umbrosa, were found in locations close to residential areas, while B. umbrosa was not found in locations far from residential areas. The dominant species was B. dorsalis in both locations. The diversity index of Bactrocera spp. in orchards close to residential areas was 1.14 (moderate), and Spearman's analysis (0.913) showed a more substantial influence than in orchards far from residential areas. Climatic factors of air humidity, air pressure, and host availability play an essential role in the presence of fruit flies.

Abstract

Lack of understanding of financial records can cause owners to have poor asset management skills. Apart from that, taxes for MSMEs are another problem for business actors. The existence of demands from the government regarding halal certification also means that business actors who sell food and drinks are required to obtain halal certification. The aim of this activity is that business actors can compile simple records of the business carried out, know their tax obligations, and be able to calculate the amount of tax paid themselves. Participants are expected to be able to have halal certification for their businesses, especially businesses with food and beverage products. Community empowerment was carried out in Madiun Regency on 26-27 July 2023. Participatory Action Research (PAR) is used in this community service. Community empowerment is carried out through skills training, counseling, and development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In this method, participants will make and learn from changes made in the training process. Simple bookkeeping training, MSME taxation, and submission of halal certification are the three sessions that make up the activities. In conclusion, MSME owners still need financial records written on paper, and most still need to try to record them. Most participants have small gross receipts or businesses with gross receipts of less than Five hundred million per year, so companies are not subject to MSME tax. Participants' enthusiasm grew when they helped apply for halal certification.

Abstract

Ornamental plants are plants that are used as decoration. One of the ornamental plants is Aglaonema sp. known as Sri Rejeki. It is enjoyed as an ornamental plant in terms of leaf pattern. However, Aglaonema has harmful ectoparasites. The aim of this study was to determine and identify ectoparasites in Aglaonema plants using the Visual Encounter method, and to analyze the role and solutions for the presence of ectoparasites in Aglaonema. Research observations were carried out for approximately three weeks from April to May 2022. Six individuals Aglaonema were used as samples. Observation was done by using the visual encounter method which was carried out once a week in the morning, afternoon, and evening with a total of three time observations (15 minutes each) at each time. Measurement of abiotic factors includes temperature, humidity, and weather. The results were used to determine the important value index (IVI) and Shannon-Wiener Index (H’). All identified organisms were arthropods (insects). There were five identified families:  Pseudococcidae, Coccidae, Formicidae, Chironomidae, and Muscidae. Pseudococcidae and Coccidae were the insect families that are confirmed as ectoparasites for plants. The solution for prevention or termination of ectoparasite is by replacing the invaded plant away from healthy plants, removing the infected parts of plant, and/or placing refugia plant for habitat of ectoparasite’s natural enemies.

Abstract

The rice bug is a pest causing decrease rice production. Meanwhile, binahong leaves and shallot skin contain potential materials for making biopesticides. This research aimed to analyze potential of binahong leaves and shallot skin extract as biopesticides and toxicity tested against rice bug. The research was carried out using Completely Randomized Design, biopesticides were made in various concentrations, 0% as a control; 10; 20; 30; 40; and 50. The extract was calculated for yield, pH, and phytochemical screening. Then, biopesticide sprayed on the pests at 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, and 168 hours to observe mortality, LC50, morphology, behavior, biotic, and data analysis using ANOVA followed 0.05 Tukey test. The results showed the extract has potential as a biopesticide with yield value 8,3 – 12; pH value 4,84 – 5,37; and positive secondary metabolite. Meanwhile, toxicity tests showed the highest mortality at concentration 50%, LC50 at 144th hours and 168th hours was 4,373 and 2,002. Besides that, biopesticides changes morphology and behavior pest. Observations abiotic factors showed that rice bug can survive in temperature range of 22,75 – 25oC and relative humidity of 77 - 84%. In the future, it hoped biopesticides can be commercialized to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides.
