Abstract

The existence of fishing grounds for fishing businesses, especially the scope of small fishermen, greatly affects economic conditions. The closer the fishing area is, the easier it will be to reach and minimize production costs. The high level of human activity in a waters is one of the important factors that cause changes in water conditions. In Tahuna Bay and its surroundings, fishermen have difficulty catching demersal fish around Tahuna Bay. This study aims to examine the existence of demersal fishing areas with a descriptive method approach. Data retrieval includes depth, current and position using GPS. The results obtained are that the demersal fishing area begins to shift towards Maselihe (further than before), this can be seen from the lower number of catches in Tahuna Bay than around Maselihe. The number of fishing areas consists of 8 posts, with current speeds ranging from 8 second/5 m in the waters around Maselihe, and to 3.37 minutes /5 m in the waters around Lesa and Batulewer (Teluk Tahuna). The depth of the fishing gear operating area is 22.6 m to 44.8 m.

Abstract

The problem with the fishermen group in Palahanaeng Village is the minimum number of fishing gear and the ineffectiveness of the fishing gear. This PMUP program provides education about the handline fishing gear or “Kakintu Kindaeng” fishing line, as well as counseling on the effectiveness of its use for fishermen groups. The service method that will be carried out is providing counseling and training, mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation for fishing fishermen groups in Palahanaeng Village. This community service helps fishermen groups in Palahaneng Village to increase catches, which has implications for increasing fishermen's income. Kakintu kindaeng is a common fishing gear used by fishermen in Palahanaeng Village. Kindaeng is the name of the local people for mackarel tuna fish, which is a type of pelagic fish that has economic value. The operation process is stretched out into the water by being pulled and jerked while the boat is being run using the engine. Some of these catches are sold and some are used for daily family consumption needs.
