Abstract

Abstract

Corn tumpi (corn hulls term in Indonesian language) is the by-product of corn kernel threshing. Corn tumpi is readily available, cost-effective, and does not compete with human food resources, making it a viable alternative feed source for livestock. Thus, this study conducted to evaluate the effect of incorporating corn tumpi into the diets of local rams on their blood chemistry profile. Research design used was the one way completely randomized. The study used were twenty local rams allocated into four treatment groups with different rations. The experimental treatments consisted of four groups: T0 (20% elephant grass + 80% concentrate + 0% corn tumpi), T1 (20% elephant grass + 60% concentrate + 20% corn tumpi), T2 (20% elephant grass + 40% concentrate + 40% corn tumpi), and T3 (20% elephant grass + 20% concentrate + 60% corn tumpi). The feeding trial was conducted over 14 weeks, with blood sampling performed during the final week. Glucose and triglyceride concentrations did not differ significantly among the treatment groups. In contrast, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine levels were significantly higher than those observed in the control group. Notably, globulin and creatinine concentrations decreased in the T3 treatment. Overall, the inclusion of corn tumpi in the diet at levels up to 60% modified several blood metabolites; however, all values remained within normal physiological ranges, indicating no adverse metabolic effects.

Abstract

Abstract

Organic farming products are beneficial not only to people's well-being, but also to the environment's long-term viability. One of the cooperatives producing organic agricultural products in Central Java Province is the Boyolali Organic Farmers Association (APOB). This association's problems are twofold, namely: the lack of organic fertilizer literacy and organic fertilizer inclusion for managers and members. Therefore, this study attempts to assess the levels of organic fertilizer literacy-inclusion and empowering business institutions. The period of assessment began in July and ended in August 2025. The primary data were collected using focus group discussion and in-depth interview involving 15 APOB managers and members. The method was descriptive statistics. The findings reveal that the literacy level of organic fertilizer was 66.29%. Meanwhile, the inclusion level was 72.18%. There is 5.89% difference level between literacy and inclusion. This condition illustrates that the level of organic fertilizer inclusion is slightly higher than the literacy level. Policy implications are delivered to APOB managers to increase organic fertilizer literacy and inclusion through training programs and workshops. Furthermore, the local government can facilitate business development and mentoring in organic fertilizer production and utilization.

Abstract

Objective: Blood is a body fluid that plays a role in transporting oxygen, nutrients, metabolic waste, and serves as a component of the immune system. Its measurable indices such as hematological profile is affected by the food consumed. This study aimed to examine the linseed use in complete feed on the hematology value of sheep blood. Methods: This research was conducted at the “Mitra Karya Farm” in Purworejo Village, Gemolong District, Sragen Regency. There were 15 male Fat-Tailed Sheep crossing 1-1.5 years old with an average body weight of 22+2.04 kg as experimental animals. The treatments applied were P1: 100% complete feed, P2: 90% complete feed and 10% linseed, P3: 90% complete feed and 10% linseed meal, P4: 90% complete feed and 10% linseed protected with tannin, and P5: 97% complete feed and 3% linseed oil that are saponified. A one-way, Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used, and blood hematology was the measured variable, which includes the determination of erythrocytic series (red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte index), leukocytes, and platelets. Results: The results showed that the treatment applied had no significant effect on red blood cells value and erythrocyte index, but had a significant effect on hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, and platelets value. The highest sheep blood Hb (P<0.05) was P3, which did not differ from P4, P1, and P2, while P5 had the lowest Hb level. The highest blood hematocrit was in P1, and this result was not significantly different from P3 and P4, while P2 and P5 produced low hematocrit. The highest leukocytes were achieved by P4 and were not significantly different from P3. Leukocytes were the lowest at P2 and not significantly different from P1. In contrast, P4 sheep platelets were the highest and not significantly different from P3, P1, and P2, while P5 produced the lowest platelets. Conclusions: This study concludes that the sheep that received complete feed, 90% + 10% linseed meal (P3), had the best hematology.
