This study adopted a mix method design which employed both qualitative and quantitative research design. Instruments of the study were questionnaire and interview guideline. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Wonggeduku, involving students who 126 students participated in this study by filling out a questionnaire. Result of the study showed that All of the students were perform each strategy which is used in this research. However, in each strategy, they have their own preference such us in Determination strategy, they prefer to choose item 1 “; I use a bilingual dictionary to help me translate words into English language” rather than the other item in Determination Strategy. In answering the second research question about the most frequently used strategy, it is revealed that the students in SMA Negeri 1 Wonggeduku prefer to choose Memory Strategy got the highest rank among the other six categories available, followed by Determination, Social (Discovery), Metacognitive, Social (Consolidation) and the last is Cognitive Strategy. This study employed quasi experimental design to scrutinize the applicability of TBLT which involving 2nd grade students of Junior High School 7 Kendari registered in academic year 2019/2020. To this end, 62 participants (including an experimental group and a control class ones) were selected through purposive sampling from among 180 students. Task Based Language Teaching was applied in teaching reading comprehension in experimental group while in control group ones was applied conventional. Both groups were taught the same topic. The test was administered before treatment (pre-test) to examine the students’ previous reading comprehension and it was then compared with their post-test to examine their reading comprehension after being taught using TBLT. Reading test and questionnaire as the instruments of this study. The data from reading test was used to figure out the students’ reading comprehension by using t-test while the data from questionnaire was to figure out the students’ reading motivation. Abstract

Flipped classroom is considered to be capable of addressing two classical constraints pertaining to the teaching of writing in an EFL context – limited time for classroom interaction and limited exposure to the target language. However, our current understanding of its true effectiveness with respect to students’ learning outcomes and learning motivation relative to conventional teaching is still in its infancy. In fact, reviewing the literature, it becomes immediately clear that many of the claims in favor of flipped classroom are based primarily on anecdotal, rather than empirical evidence. The present study sought to compare students’ learning outcomes and their motivation as a result of attending two different modes of instruction: conventional task-based face-to-face classroom and task-based flipped classroom. Conducted with students at SMAN 4 Kendari, the study employed a matching pre-post comparison group, involving two cohorts: experimental group (44 students) and control group (42 students). These students were recruited using a purposive sampling technique. The statistical analysis of independent samples t-test suggests that students attending flipped classroom significantly outperform those studying conventionally, p 0.00 < 005. Additionally, it was also found that students attending flipped classroom are significantly more motivated than their counterparts studying conventionally. All in all, a flipped strategy has resulted in both improved learning and motivation of the students. Implications of these findings will be critically discussed in this paper. Keywords: Flipped classroom; Conventional learning; Mode of delivery; Writing; Motivation
